Marvel Magic Case Files
Chapter 958 A Difficult Mission
Chapter 958 A Difficult Mission (Second Update)
With Stephanie's involvement, investigating the backers of the Pasadena Energy Lab was much faster than letting the intelligence agencies investigate on their own. After all, the Immortal City's agents hadn't yet penetrated into Congress. Extorting members of Congress with dirt on them might work once, but doing it too often would only backfire.
Building a small nuclear reactor directly in a private laboratory on the outskirts of the city is inherently illogical, but the fact that it passed through layers of approval and inspection means that some powerful force is ensuring the project proceeds smoothly. By finding this behind-the-scenes financier, the Immortal City can discover just how many people are involved with that magic book, how many have witnessed its supernatural power, and how many have been subtly corrupted by it. Daisy Jensen, of course, is unaware of the urgency of the situation. She believes the biggest consequence is a radioactive leak, leading to widespread radioactive contamination throughout Los Angeles and endangering the lives of tens of thousands of civilians.
This kind of thing is not uncommon; Daisy Jensen has read about similar cases in the S.H.I.E.L.D. archives.
To prevent this from happening, she had to take the bone-healing medication and opioid painkillers again, and then try to catch up with the Imperial Guard before the drugs took effect. However, Constantine, riding his anti-gravity jet motorcycle, only left her with a deafening roar before soaring into the sky and disappearing, leaving Daisy Jensen furious as she pounded on the steering wheel at a red light. Perhaps the medication was starting to work; the pain no longer bothered her, and she quickly calmed down again, then began calculating the shortest route.
She's going to the Pasadena Energy Lab.
Daisy Jensen felt that she would meet the people she wanted to see there, and that all the mysteries would be solved there.
The reality was far more terrifying than she imagined. If Vishanti's prophecy was accurate, then any single page in that spellbook could drive everyone on the planet mad, summoning an evil god to pull Earth from the real universe into an outer dimension. The more terrifying the black magic, the lower the requirements for the caster; sometimes, only specific conditions needed to be met, a spell even one didn't understand needed to be recited, and a casual flick of the finger was all it took—faced with such horrific consequences, Salomon mobilized the entire Royal Guard, capable of drawing upon the power of the Immortal City, to resolve the situation. If the situation became irreversible, a hydrogen bomb would be launched from the Skysword Space Station and crash directly into Los Angeles, wiping everything with the most destructive power of human technology, ensuring the safety of Earth and the entire human race.
Salomon did not leave all the tasks to others and stand aside. He returned to Kamar-Taj and summoned some of the most powerful arcane sorcerers in Kamar-Taj in an attempt to solve the problem at its source.
"The origins of this evil book can be traced back a thousand years, to the time of the Camelot power struggle. Morgan le Fay sided with the evil god, teaching people evil magic. Later, he was hunted down by the Sorcerer Supreme and fled, his whereabouts unknown. Recently, the Ghost Rider has reappeared, coupled with the prophecy of Vishanti, I say that the Dark Book will soon appear; this is destiny." He spoke to the sorcerers sitting around him, including the sorcerers Hamil, Wang, Daniel, and Wu Guiyue. Almost all the guardians of the temple had come to the temple in the Himalayas at his summons. These people were the foundation left to him by the Sorcerer Supreme, so that he could control the entire Kamar-Taj. Although many of them had watched him grow up, when carrying out missions, they all regarded Salomon as a sorcerer rather than their junior.
"You all know the harm of the Dark Book, and its contents are widely circulated among mortals. Those who read it are corrupted. The good become evil, and the evil become wicked. To sweep away evil and protect people's hearts is my primary task, regardless of the cost." Salomon paused, revealing his purpose to them without reservation. He was determined to delve into the Dark Dimension to confront the woman who had been entangled with the Venerable for a lifetime.
The deacons exchanged glances but did not object, for they all knew that Salomon was the heir to Kamar-Taj and held decisive authority when the Sorcerer Supreme was away. Only Baron Mordo wanted to object, but his objections were futile, and he could only sullenly remain there. He believed that Salomon did not need to risk his life personally; this matter could wait until the Sorcerer Supreme returned—a suggestion that Salomon also found quite reasonable, but no one knew when the Sorcerer Supreme would return, so he had to take the risk.
However, he assured Mordo that he would retreat immediately if the infiltration failed, and that he would also abandon the adventure if the Venerable One returned prematurely. He had summoned all the powerful mages to ensure his safety, entrusting his soul to all the mages present. This unreserved trust left Mordo speechless. Mordo felt somewhat embarrassed, then added that he would not allow Salomon to be harmed, even if it cost him his life. Mages Hamil, Daniel, and Wu Guiyue also swore oaths, while only Mage Xiao Wang remained somewhat confused.
His mastery of secret techniques wasn't top-tier among this group, and he had no idea why he had come here.
"I need a safety rope, Your Majesty," Salomon said meaningfully. "You are my safety rope."
Salomon once confronted Dormammu directly, but the situation is different now.
Back then, he had the Sorcerer Supreme's protection, and it was merely a simple spiritual projection—throwing a fragment of his thoughts into the chaotic outer dimension. This allowed him to do his homework while facing Dormammu. Even if the protection failed, and the predators of the unseen world devoured that fragment of his spirit, the only consequence would be a temporary headache, which could be recovered with a good night's sleep. Now, he needed to venture deep into the dark dimension while avoiding Dormammu's gaze, preventing Dormammu from discovering his true purpose—this required the temple deacons to spend a long time preparing elaborate rituals, inscribing magic circles and runes. Only in this way could Salomon be guaranteed to roam the outer dimensions undetected, searching for Morgan le Fay's whereabouts.
Only the Dark God and Morgan le Fay know the exact number of the bound Dark Scrolls. Compared to the Dark God, Morgan le Fay poses a much lower risk. If the Royal Guard's mission succeeds, Salomon will use his findings to compare and collect the pages of the Dark Book until he is certain that no Dark Scroll has been missed. This is one of Kamar-Taj's missions. In the past, every collection and destruction of the Dark Book has been meticulously recorded, but the exact number of Dark Scrolls has never been known.
Despite Salomon's confident demeanor, he was actually quite nervous.
The Merlin School sealed a fragment of Morgan le Fay's soul at the cost of one of its heirs. The power of that fragment, amplified through a ritual, was even capable of reviving the dead throughout the world. Morgan le Fay, imprisoned deep within the Dark Dimension, was undoubtedly far more powerful than that fragment. Therefore, after assigning the task, he immediately returned to the Witch's Apartment and clearly explained his upcoming mission to Bayonetta and Jeanne—because the matter was indeed quite dangerous, and from a family perspective, he had to inform the witches. From a mission perspective, he needed the witches' wisdom.
"How much time do we have left?" Bayonetta asked, frowning. She knew that the ritual required time to prepare, and that casting the starlight projection also required a specific time to perform, so she was asking when Salomon planned to conduct the ritual.
"From the preparation of the ceremony to its commencement, it takes thirteen days, thirteen hours, thirteen minutes, and thirteen seconds."
