Chapter 998 High Strategy, Low Tactics
Chapter 998 High Strategy, Low Tactics (Second Update)
The Latvian regular army today is quite unique and can be considered one of the strangest armies in human history.
In terms of basic military forces, each soldier is equipped with laser weapons, heavy weapon platforms, armored personnel carriers with protection superior to tanks, bulletproof armor, plasma weapons, and a large number of individual air defense and anti-tank weapons. High-end military forces include intercontinental ballistic missiles and ballistic missile launchers armed with nuclear warheads, assault transport ships capable of aerial navigation, super-heavy tanks capable of siege warfare, integrated satellite and drone reconnaissance and strike capabilities, and armed space station logistics—all technologies unavailable to other countries in the world. Logistics are abundant, and operational plans are extremely detailed. The armaments produced by the Immortal City alone are more than enough; any well-trained force could easily complete this war.
But that's where Latvian's problem lies.
Latvia has a population of only 500,000, resulting in a severe shortage of regular army personnel. They rely heavily on capturing small villages, using propaganda to recruit soldiers, and then packing them into troop carriers. While many young Latvians are now joining the regular army with their families, most lack basic military skills, except for the guerrillas who form the core of the regular army. Their past experience with weapons was limited to American firearms from local police and military departments, as well as weapons acquired after the collapse of the Soviet Union. They need time to learn how to fly aircraft, use laser weapons, plasma weapons, heavy physical platforms, and anti-aircraft artillery. Furthermore, the training camps established by the Immortal City dedicate significant time to basic military skills courses such as discipline, map reading, signal recognition, and infantry-tank coordination. The young men of the Latvian regular army simply lack the time and education to learn how to use advanced war machines.
Even if there were schools in the chosen base areas, it wouldn't be possible to teach most people math and Latin in just a few weeks. The country's educational resources were firmly controlled by the landed nobles, like Ms. Odra, who was rescued by the chief preacher. She has now started teaching math in the residential areas, which is better than doing laundry, no matter how unwilling she is.
Therefore, all personnel responsible for operating these devices need the support of the Immortal City.
Even though the Ministry of Military Affairs has sent instructors to conduct specialized courses in training camps, the Latvians still need time to adapt to the pace of modern warfare. Otherwise, they will be forced to rely on their World War II experience to fight this war, potentially turning themselves into a repeat of India. In short, they have a significant strategic advantage, but still need to learn tactical skills.
Salomon made the essence of the Latvian War clear to Viktor von Dum from the outset: it was a war fought in the spiritual realm of the Latvians; physical annihilation was secondary, the crucial element was spiritual annihilation. Every time a Latvian pulled the trigger on the enemy, it was a spiritual shock; every time a Latvian threw a grenade, it was a fire ignited in their hearts.
Following this, the psychological weapon will radiate outward from Latvia as its center, expanding outward from neighboring countries such as Transylvania, Sylkaria, Serbia, and Hungary as the first radiation zone, then to Europe, Central Asia, and even the former Soviet republics as the second radiation zone, and the Middle East and South Asia as the third radiation zone.
Using the weapon of consciousness to gain a sense of belonging, and once Latvia's basic industrial capacity is established, launching an expedition to reunite them, completely eradicate nationalism and religious superstition, establish the initial territory of the human empire, and unite everyone under the eagle banner of the Immortal City—this is the moderate approach. A more aggressive approach is direct unification, fighting and then rebuilding; after all, the Immortal City's technological level can rapidly increase productivity, and as long as the gains from curbing NATO's southward expansion are retaliated against, many problems will no longer be problems.
Stephanie suggested the second option, utilizing the semi-finished products from the genetic lab, but Salomon believed this should be judged based on the circumstances at that time.
What Latvinia needed for its industrialization was the massive order signed between the Immortal City and Wakanda. This included numerous projects such as chip manufacturing and research centers. Salomon hesitated for a while before signing the order, but ultimately did. It's impossible for Salomon not to be envious of Wakanda's industrial base; even the Martian foundry is now desperately trying to catch up with Wakanda's production capacity in chips and high-strength alloys. Wakanda is currently irreplaceable to the Immortal City, therefore the plan to annex Wakanda is accelerating—there are no permanent enemies or friends, and Salomon absolutely cannot allow Wakanda to strangle the Immortal City and hinder the realization of his ideals. Even if the probability is one percent, it must be treated as an absolute event.
The only person in the world who ever made him suffer was Nick Fury, and that was many years ago. Now, most of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s assets have been swallowed up by Immortal City, and the former King of Agents is obediently staying in the intelligence room working for him.
However, one must take things one step at a time, and the steps outlined in the tens of thousands of pages of plans prepared by the Ministry of the Interior must also be implemented step by step.
"Rome!" Little Lorna excitedly raised her hand. "This is Rome!"
Salomon recalled the Sorcerer Supreme tapping his head and complaining about the time travel, and couldn't help but stick out his tongue. He had never seen anything make the Sorcerer Supreme look so anxious, angry, and helpless. He looked so gentle that even the nameless girl sitting on his lap, shaking her head and amusing herself, stuck out her tongue in a silly manner.
His appearance belied his ambition to establish a human empire; he seemed more like a young father at home, perhaps preparing dinner before his wife got off work. Although it was only close to lunchtime, preparing a more substantial dinner in advance was perfectly reasonable.
Little Lorna is right; there really is a special reason why he subconsciously chose this symbol.
The deeper Salomon's understanding of the concept of time deepened, the more certain he became of what would happen during his time-travel journey. The absurd notion of the future influencing the past was highly likely—he was now certain he would begin this unexpected journey within the next few years, and most likely land at a significant point in the timeline of human history. While the specific reasons remained unclear, he needed to ascertain as possible what role his future self would play in human history to avoid doing anything that would negatively impact it. Or perhaps he already had, but was unaware of what was happening at that time. His meticulous nature compelled him to delve into history books, searching for any inconsistencies.
When little Lorna brought up the possibility, Salomon felt a chill run down his spine again, as if he had been stabbed in the back. Anything was possible in the past; he could believe even the most absurd and outlandish things. Thinking of this, he felt relieved and began preparing for the next war.
The next war won't take place in the physical universe, but in outer dimensions. No matter how powerful the Immortal City's technology, it cannot directly interfere in outer dimensions. Everything must rely on Salomon and his Royal Guard. This is to resolve a problem that is both a personal and a public matter: Marduk, the First Primal Primal Baal—not all outer-dimensional beings are as loyal as Phoenix; even Marduk's cooperation is based on self-interest. He must deal with this outer-dimensional being who is scheming to seize the Seventh Throne and also wants to interfere in the physical universe. Only by resolving this problem can the girl sitting on his lap truly reveal her talents and embark on her unparalleled life.
