The detective is dead, I did it.

Chapter 106 Shirley's Little Ideas

Chapter 106 Shirley's Little Ideas

Li Ang exclaimed, "Wow!"

While it's theoretically possible to say that, aren't you afraid Charlotte will get angry on the spot if you say it to her face?

Sure enough, Charlotte's face darkened visibly.

Her lips were pressed into a thin line, her eyes were fixed on Shirley, and her fingers silently stretched to her knees, clenching into fists, as if she were considering whether or not to punch someone.

"Alright, alright." Li Ang reached out and pressed between the two of them, as if to soothe two Hakimi who were about to explode.

"Shirley was joking. She didn't mean it that way."

He was genuinely worried that the detective's breath would cause a fight between her and Sherry.

Although the scene would certainly be exciting, Charlotte is very likely to be beaten up. After all, Sherry is a Sequence 6 Armed Detective, and her physical abilities are undeniable.

Charlotte, although a Sequence 5 level, is a detective. She might be very good at fighting, but Li Ang has never seen her fight in person. In this state where everyone has amnesia, he doesn't think she can beat Sherry.

"But I'm serious." Sherry blinked, her blue ahoge sticking up innocently.

Li Ang glanced at her, his eyes filled with a sense of helplessness, as if to say, "Can you please stop adding fuel to the fire?"

He turned to Charlotte, his tone softening. "That's just how she talks. She's not cursing you on purpose. She just thinks your position is important, not because you're going to die, but because she wasn't in the running while you were alive."

Charlotte's fist slowly loosened; her face was still red, but she clearly no longer had any intention of fighting back.

Shirley looked at her and smiled, "Indeed. If Miss Charlotte were alive, I certainly wouldn't be able to be her assistant."

Hearing her say that, Charlotte clenched her fists again. Although the other person and Li Ang meant the same thing, this blue-haired idiot just had to say it in such an infuriating way.

What does "if you were alive" mean? Was she praising me or cursing me?

"Oh, by the way. Would you like some cookies?" Shirley took a small bag of cookies out of her pocket and handed it to Charlotte.

The bag wasn't big; it was a common kraft paper bag with slightly wrinkled edges. It was sealed with a light blue ribbon, and the aroma of butter and wheat flour baked together wafted out from inside.

"Where did you come from?" Charlotte looked at the small cookies in front of her that smelled of butter, but did not immediately reach out her hand.

"I think I had it with me before I got involved in this game." Shirley rested her chin on her hand and thought seriously for a moment. "It's been in my pocket the whole time, I'd completely forgotten about it. I was so hungry just now that I found it when I checked my pockets."

Hearing her say that, Li Ang was certain. This was the bag of cookies that the other party had shared with him in the courtroom; he hadn't expected it to be brought in as well.

It seems that this game handles personal items very casually; some items disappear, while others are inexplicably left behind.

For example, his detective ID was kept.

"Eat it. It actually tastes pretty good." After saying that, Li Ang reached out, took a piece, chewed it a couple of times, and swallowed it.

Although the cookies had become a little soggy because of the unusually damp nights here, they were still just as sweet.

"You talk as if you've already eaten it." Seeing that Li Ang had already tasted it, Charlotte no longer hesitated and picked up a piece and put it in her mouth just like him.

And of course, he didn't forget to add a final "Thank you."

Shirley waved her hand and said in a light tone, "You're welcome. Would you like two more?"

Charlotte was silent for a moment, then took two more. These cookies were indeed delicious.

Although the crispiness was gone, the sweet but not cloying taste and the perfect ratio of butter and flour made her want to ask where she bought it.

After seeing Charlotte put the cookie in her mouth, Shirley turned to look at Li Ang, "Well, Mr. Li Ang, do you think I could be your backup assistant? I don't have to do any work normally, and I can step in when Miss Charlotte needs something."

Charlotte hadn't swallowed the cookie in her mouth yet and was staring at Sherry in astonishment.

Her cheeks were bulging, and her long white hair hung down her shoulders, making her look like a large white hamster.

She seriously suspected she'd been tricked. Could the other person be trying to use this little cookie to shut her up, preventing her from speaking immediately?

As a proper lady, one should not speak while eating.

Did this guy anticipate this, which is why he brought out the cookies? He offers the treat first, then sets the conditions.

Military strategy dictates that this is called "courtesy before force" or "sweetening before blocking."

That's absolutely despicable!

Li Ang looked at her, at that face that screamed "I'm so serious!" and asked, "How determined are you to be my assistant?"

Shirley tilted her head and thought for a moment. "It's not that I'm obsessed. It's just that I feel—your assistant position is very important. The person who can stand next to you must be a very special person."

She paused, a strange light shining in her eyes, "I want to be like that too."

"I have no objection anyway." Li Ang looked at Charlotte, who was trying to speed up her chewing, and suppressed a laugh.

"Yay!" Shirley extended her hand and shook hands with Leon. "Then please take care of me, Detective!"

Charlotte had just swallowed the cookie in her mouth and was about to speak when Sherry beat her to it.

She gave Li Ang a thumbs up, grinned, revealing two small tiger teeth, and said, "Then I'll go find the others first."

After she finished speaking, she skipped and hopped out of the restaurant, her footsteps fading into the distance in the corridor.

Li Ang withdrew his gaze and turned to look at Charlotte.

"I take back my initial assessment of this woman; she's a cunning woman," Charlotte said viciously.

Li Ang couldn't help but laugh out loud, and it took him a while to stop.

"What are you laughing at?" Charlotte glared at him.

"It's nothing," Li Ang said, wiping his eyes. "I just think you two are quite interesting."

"I think you've been bought off by her cookies!" Charlotte snorted.

"You think you can buy me off with just a cookie? That's too cheap of me," Li Ang remarked casually.

"Who knows?" Charlotte continued. "Are you really going to keep her as a backup assistant?" Her tone was a little sour, but she didn't seem to realize it at all.

"It was her own request," Li Ang joked. "Who told me to be bribed by his little cookie?"

"Really..."

'

Li Ang turned his head and found Charlotte's lips pursed, her face full of "I'm not happy" expression.

"Are you jealous?" he asked.

Charlotte quickly denied it, "No."

"Then why do you care?"

"Because—" Her lips moved slightly, then closed again. After a while, she spoke again, her voice softer than before.

"Because you are mine."

She emphasized the word "mine" very heavily, as if stressing something that was beyond question.

Charlotte didn't know why she suddenly said such a thing, but a voice in her subconscious told her to say it.

This sounds exactly like a love confession!
