Chapter 75 Appetite, Starting with a Full Meal

Joseph hadn't noticed the change in atmosphere yet; he looked past the two students and saw the uniquely tilted cake on the table in the reception room.

Judging from its appearance, this cake looks somewhat like it has just experienced a minor geological disaster. The left side is bulging high, while the right side has collapsed, and there is a crack in the middle that is barely covered by sweet cream. The white frosting flower is crooked in the center, and the red pattern next to it is unclear what it was originally meant to represent.

From a distance, it looks like a flower blown by a strong wind, facing life's hardships together with a melting red mushroom.

However, Mia and Grace were covered in flour. Mia's nose and cheeks were covered in white ash, and there was even a small piece of flour or uncooked paste stuck to her red hair.

Although Grace was more neatly dressed than her, her skirt and cuffs had many white marks, making her look nothing like the quiet and dignified princess she usually was.

They clearly put a lot of thought into this cake.

"Did you make this?" Joseph asked.

"Yes!" Mia nodded vigorously immediately. "Grace and I did it together!"

She couldn't help but laugh as she pointed to the cake on the table: "Sir, you've worked so hard today, so we wanted to make you a cake!"

Grace stood to the side and said, "This is the first time we've done this, so the shape might not be the best."

"It's just slightly crooked," Mia quickly added.

Joseph glanced again at the cake, which had a noticeable difference in height between its left and right sides. Evelyn followed their gaze to the table. She looked at the cake, then at the two girls whose clothes were covered in flour, and a smile slowly appeared in her eyes.

"So the professor's students also prepared a cake for him," Evelyn said softly. "What a coincidence."

Mia's smile hadn't faded when she heard those words and paused in surprise.

"also?"

Evelyn explained gently, "The White Dove Church happened to bake some today, and since the professor was busy for so long, I asked him to try a few pieces first."

At this point, she looked apologetically at the cake on the table.

"If I had known you had prepared the cake yourself, I should have advised the professor to eat less. I'm sorry."

Grace stood quietly to the side, gently fidgeting with her cuff. Mia blinked and looked at Joseph, asking, "Has the gentleman already eaten the cake?"

Allen, who was at the very back, strode in, carrying a file box in one hand and a small basket with a lot of cakes left in the other.

He didn't consider the issue of a great mage's private domain at all.

In Allen's view, the fact that Professor Grantham was willing to invite them back meant that the professor considered them friends.

Thinking of this, the smile on his face brightened even more.

He followed the two into the experimental tower, saw the unusually large cake on the table, and then looked at Mia and Grace covered in flour. Suddenly, it dawned on him, and he burst into a hearty laugh: "Hahaha! You two, like Sister Evelyn, made a cake especially for the professor?"

The atmosphere at the scene, which had been slightly salvageable, was completely ruined by Allen's loud laughter, effectively ending any chance of recovery.

Mia's smile didn't completely fade. She glanced down at the flour in her hand and then stole a look at the small basket covered with a white cloth in Allen's hand.

It turns out that the gentleman had already eaten the cake, which was made by Sister Evelyn herself.

She had originally thought that the first thing her husband would see when he came home was the cake they had made. In her imagination, he would open the door, see the cake on the table, and then be a little surprised, and maybe even ask them how they came up with the idea to make it.

She could tell the gentleman that she was a mechanic and therefore could handle materials and furnace fires, and that Grace was a guide and therefore responsible for ensuring she didn't fail too badly.

Although it ended up a little crooked, that was the first time. But now, my husband has already eaten someone else's cake.

But that's quite normal, isn't it?

Sister Evelyn is so gentle and caring, her cakes must be delicious.

This is their first time making this, and you can tell they've put in a lot of effort just to make a cake.

Mia's originally bright eyes slowly drooped a little, but she quickly tried to straighten her expression.

Grace's gaze fell on Evelyn, who stood beside Joseph. The nun's black gown was impeccably neat, the soft fabric outlining the graceful yet gentle figure of a mature woman. Even just standing there quietly, she exuded a mature charm that didn't need to be deliberately displayed.

She just stood there, as if she already knew how to take care of someone, how to make the professor comfortable, and how to hand out the cake at the right time.

It was something Grace had seen in the court but never truly learned: maturity, poise, gentleness, and even caring for others seemed like something she had practiced countless times.

Meanwhile, she and Mia stayed in the tower and made a crooked cake. For the first time, Grace felt that her identity as a student placed her in a very safe yet somewhat distant position.

She glanced down at the flour on her cuffs. This morning, she had been happy because it was the first time she had tidied her room by hand and the first time she had made a cake with Mia.

Now those white marks suddenly seem a bit childish.

But Grace didn't hate Evelyn, just as she had never truly hated Mia before; she just couldn't figure it out for the time being.

But that's normal; of course, the gentleman couldn't belong to the experimental tower alone.

"Well, that's okay," Mia suddenly said. "We just suddenly wanted to try making a cake."

Upon hearing Mia speak, Grace quickly suppressed the inappropriate thought and replied softly, "Yes, sir. We just wanted to give it a try."

Joseph finally realized, belatedly, that something seemed a little off.

Mia Grace's previously cheerful expression seems to have changed. What happened?

He merely ate a few pieces of cake at the church; he didn't dismantle the experimental tower's kitchen and give it to Sister Evelyn.

However, Joseph quickly realized something.

Two students spent half a day making a cake for their professor for the first time, only to find that the professor's first words upon returning were that he had already eaten out. This certainly sounds like the words of a rather tactless jerk.

If this situation isn't handled well, will the students' enthusiasm decline? If the students feel disappointed, what can be done about rehabilitation and guidance? Without rehabilitation and guidance, how will they become well-rounded novice adventurers?

Even setting aside skills, from a mentor's perspective, in situations like this, students shouldn't feel that their hard work is being postponed until the next day.

Pig farmers all know that you can't let two piglets see that the feed is not divided equally — no, this analogy shouldn't be said aloud.

In short, we must fetch water, we absolutely must fetch water!
