Falling into the Cretaceous

Chapter 19 Knowledge is Verified

The dozen or so Deinonychus surrounded the group, their shadows cast on the rocks by the campfire, blending seamlessly with the moss and lichen.

Their feathers bristled, a sign of readiness to attack at any moment. On their two feet, the second toe's sickle claw was raised high, its tough keratin gleaming in the flickering firelight.

Their throats, constantly emitting strange cries, rolled under their feathers, and their thick necks, like water pipes, rose and fell with the sounds.

Its mouth opens and closes, revealing sixty serrated teeth that cover its wide and long upper and lower jaws. If you were bitten by those teeth, it would be like taking off a suit of skin, tearing off the flesh and revealing a skeleton.

Mike was starting to regret it.

He truly regretted his impulsive and courageous actions, and inwardly he was both praying and cursing.

His forehead and back were covered in sweat.

The others were so frightened that their legs trembled, and their eyes nervously scanned every moving Deinonychus.

The torches in their hands were swaying, which made them hesitant to attack.

Of course, if these Deinonychus had already eaten humans and knew that these humans were not as terrifying as they imagined, they would definitely have pounced on them and fought them.

Their extremely cautious nature gave Shen Ye and his group an opening, providing these modern visitors with an opportunity to use their wisdom and increasing their chances of a counterattack.

"Go a little further, don't worry, their target will only be us, because we are outnumbered, while you have more people and torches, and hunting with minimal losses is an animal's instinct!"

Upon hearing Shen Ye's words, Mike suddenly realized what was happening and felt ashamed. He had just been cursing Shen Ye in his heart, but he never expected that Shen Ye would use him as bait. Now he really wanted to slap himself a few times.

This time, it was Zhou Jian, Jack, and Ning Yan's turn to be nervous.

They didn't expect Shen Ye to be so ruthless.

They originally thought that Mike and the others were meant to lure the Deinonychus away; if they had known this was the case, they definitely wouldn't have been able to remain so calm.

It was certainly not as peaceful as it was for Mike and his group.

As Mike continued to move to the left, the two groups separated, and most of the Deinonychus ended up on Mike's side.

However, they did not launch an attack.

Shen Ye's brows were covered in sweat, which he dared not wipe away, his eyes fixed on the Deinonychus.

Finally, one of the three Deinonychus that had been identified as the suspected leader was quietly moving its position behind the herd.

It moves in the opposite direction to the other Deinonychus, and it is good at ambushing, its figure moving stealthily in the shadows of the other Deinonychus.

If you don't observe carefully, it's easy to overlook it!

"That's the one!"

Shen Ye took a deep breath and pointed at the shrewd dinosaur claw leader.

Ning Yan kept controlling her heartbeat and breathing. As a professional shooting athlete, her mental fortitude was better than others.

Otherwise, it would be impossible to adjust one's breathing under such high pressure and thus enter the optimal firing state.

"Five meters!"

Ning Yan estimated that at this distance, if she used an air gun, she could hit a target the size of a soybean with 100% accuracy, but this was a real gun.

She had also handled real guns, but she wasn't much better than Shen Ye. However, she had extensive experience in air gun shooting training. Both are guns, and they share commonalities in terms of aiming.

Ning Yan didn't aim for the head because the Deinonychus's head was swaying, and she wasn't confident, so she could only aim for the torso, which had a larger target area.

"I can do it!"

Ning Yan's breathing and heartbeat gradually calmed down, and she felt herself entering a state of flow, just like she felt during the competition.

This state eliminates all external interference.

"Now!"

"Bang!"

A loud bang exploded in the forest.

All the surrounding Deinonychus spun backward as if they had been electrocuted!

The Deinonychus that was hit did not bounce back as it was thrown back; instead, as if it had lost momentum, it staggered a couple of steps and fell to the ground.

Its two thick, muscular legs kicked a few times like a dying chicken before going still.

The other Deinonychus that had fled about 10 meters away soon discovered that their leader had fallen to the ground after the gunshot.

Two Deinonychus approached the carcass of the alpha dragon after a moment's hesitation. Once they confirmed the alpha dragon was dead, they emitted a sound similar to a mournful cry.

The other Deinonychus around them echoed the same sound, unable to understand why their leader had died after such a loud bang.

They might associate it with lightning.

But regardless, the shot did have a deterrent effect, and they did not come any closer.

"Ning Yan, aim at another one, but don't shoot the one closest to the corpse. Leave it to spread fear back home!"

Shen Ye said to Ning Yan.

"clear!"

Ning Yan responded; she had already found the feeling of firing a gun.

This time, the target was aimed at another terrified Deinonychus seven meters away.

"Bang!"

Another shot.

The shot was a bit far, but for Ning Yan, it was acceptable, and she was 95% confident that she had hit the target's heart.

For a bipedal beast like this, the location of its heart is very easy to guess. Even if it misses, a 9mm bullet that enters from the front of the chest will tumble inside the target's chest cavity due to its length, which can still damage vital organs.

The Deinonychus also took a few steps back and fell to the ground.

The frightened Deinonychus witnessed another horrific death, one they could not comprehend. Their ingrained instinct for fear and avoidance quickly overwhelmed their remaining rationality.

A few seconds later, they scattered like birds and beasts, plunging into the dense bushes.

Shen Ye's tense nerves finally relaxed.

He let out a long breath, and only when he relaxed his grip on the spear did he realize that his finger joints were aching from gripping it too tightly.

Zhou Jian and Jack's shoulders slumped visibly, and their faces flushed.

Ning Yan simply let out a long breath, and only then did her heart begin to beat rapidly.

On Mike's side, several of them collapsed to the ground. Many of them felt that tonight was their death night. This feeling of surviving a disaster was no less terrifying than the fear of a plane crash.

Those inside the cabin, seeing this scene, knew that Shen Ye's strategy had truly succeeded; he had used his knowledge to save everyone!

They saved every single one of them!

Shen Ye's status in everyone's hearts has unknowingly risen another level.

At first, they were worried about their own deaths, but now most of them are starting to worry about Shen Ye and their safety when they go out to explore for water tomorrow.

Shen Ye understood everyone's mindset very well.

Only by doing things personally can you unite everyone's hearts into a strong rope. Only in this way can you have the strongest cohesion, and only then can the team be invincible!

"Brother Ye, I, Mike, am completely convinced of your abilities. You are more courageous, wiser, and more willing to sacrifice for everyone than I am," Mike said, patting Shen Ye on the shoulder with admiration in his eyes.

Shen Ye didn't say anything, not because he was trying to act cool, but because he was too nervous just now. His throat was tight, and he was about to pee. When he was slapped like that, he almost peed himself.

"Blacksmith, you don't need to go out with Brother Ye tomorrow. I'll go in your place. But you have to forge a suit of armor for Brother Ye tonight!"

Mike went to the porthole and shouted inside.
