Falling into the Cretaceous

Chapter 27 Swamp Area

"The Korean is right. Let's focus on getting on the road. There's no point in thinking about it too much," Shen Ye nodded in agreement.

No one else said anything.

Shen Ye recalled Roosevelt saying that the relationship between white holes and black holes is that the former only goes out and never goes in, while the latter only goes in and never goes out. However, mathematically, the singularity of a black hole is connected to the singularity of a white hole, which means that something that goes into a black hole may come out of a white hole.

This is the more popular Lorenz wormhole.

Roosevelt said that the plane passed through the Lorentz wormhole, but he didn't understand why this wormhole would appear in the sky above the Earth.

Even if Roosevelt understood the complex knowledge involved, Shen Ye wouldn't be able to comprehend it.

However, after thinking about it all night, he realized that returning to the modern world was not as simple as opening a door. The Lorentz wormhole had to reappear, and they needed to be able to reach the place where the Lorentz wormhole appeared.

The probability of this happening is extremely low.

Shen Ye felt that going back was almost impossible unless such a one-in-a-billion event happened again.

However, in order to maintain morale, he could not reveal the truth.

The group continued their journey cautiously once again.

Crossing the hill was relatively easy; the surrounding area was full of ferns and cycads, and no poisonous snakes or insects were encountered in the forest.

According to archaeological data, there were no venomous snakes during this period, but venomous insects were quite common. These were small insects that could bite people without killing them, but could spread diseases.

As they descended the hill, they encountered many toothed beasts darting about in the bushes, and some smaller toothed beasts climbed up the trees, looking at them, the outsiders, with wary expressions.

Shen Ye told them that these rat-like toothed beasts were early mammals, and some of the possums were quite similar to the modern North American possum.

Mike's spear was itching to strike.

He wanted to fork one up for a treat, but Shen Ye quickly stopped him.

"Mike, let's save our energy. Killing these small animals now will just leave us covered in blood. Are you worried the predatory dinosaurs won't be able to find us?"

"Luckily I was reminded, otherwise I would have made the same mistake again!" Mike laughed, showing none of the arrogance he usually displays in front of others.

Shen Ye ignored him. He noticed that there were many grasses in front of him, which looked a bit like modern reeds.

This plant is typically found near swamps.

Although this is a high-latitude region, the rainfall is high enough and the groundwater seepage is poor, which may lead to the formation of swamps.

"Stop!"

Shen Ye suddenly called out to everyone.

The Korean man immediately turned around.

"We need to get through here quickly; we can't stay in these places for too long," the South Korean man said.

"Didn't you all notice that these are grasses? This proves that there is likely a swamp ahead. Not only is the road difficult to travel, but the swamp is also rich in food. There is a high possibility that there are Deinosuchus and Datarcosaurus, or other dinosaurs, such as Gorgon, lurking around."

Shen Ye said.

"Shall we take a detour? But we haven't seen the swamp yet, and we don't know where it is, so it's not a good idea to take a detour!" the agent said.

Shen Ye pinched the bridge of his nose, trying hard to recall the scene he saw while in the tree.

Due to his lack of survival experience, he didn't think things through thoroughly. He only briefly noted the direction of the hills and didn't remember the types and distribution of trees at all.

If we had paid a little more attention at the time, we could have spotted this swamp and avoided it when we came over.

"Brother Ye, which way do I go?"

Zhou Jian asked. They all looked at Shen Ye, waiting for his decision. Shen Ye was in pain, but he had to make a risky decision.

"Let's keep going. Once we see the swamp, we'll go around it, but that will definitely be dangerous, so everyone please be careful!"

Shen Ye said.

They all trusted Shen Ye. After hearing Shen Ye's decision, they did not back down and continued to move forward with Shen Ye.

As they moved forward, tall redwoods appeared all around them. Further on, they found more and more bald cypress and pine trees, as well as a large number of cycads and palm trees.

These are trees commonly found on the edge of swamps.

If Shen Ye had noticed these things in the tree, he could easily have guessed what was going on here.

It's no use for Shen Ye to feel regret now.

Soon, the ground softened, and moisture seeped up from the edges of the footprints. This muddy water couldn't be collected because it was extremely saturated with the soil, containing bacteria, microorganisms, dinosaur droppings, and everything else. The cost of filtration and cleaning equipment was too high, and more importantly, it couldn't collect enough for more than eighty people.

If we continue on, we might encounter a deinosuchus.

That thing is even bigger than the Edmonton Ankylosaurus we just saw, and can weigh up to five tons.

Moreover, they are agile and can handle even young animals.

"Don't go any further. This is already the edge of the swamp. We can't see the open swamp we imagined. Let's go around to the south now."

Shen Ye said.

The Korean man hesitated for a moment.

Why is it going south and not north?

"Damn it, is our Brother Ye a commentator? He has to tell you everything! If you don't believe Brother Ye, then choose your own path!"

Mike said irritably.

The Korean man, startled by Mike's words, was unwilling to ask any more questions. The reason he had asked was, of course, because he distrusted Shen Ye, coupled with his cautious nature.

After all, his daughter was waiting for him to come back.

"Don't fight amongst yourselves. We're heading south because when I was in the tree, I saw that the terrain is higher in the north and lower in the south, making it easier to walk. Also, if there's a stream, it's easier to find it in the south."

Shen Ye said.

"Did you hear that?"

Mike gave the Korean man a shove and said.

The Korean man glared at Mike, but didn't say anything more. They continued southward.

"Brother Ye, if we can find a stream, then we won't need to look for a big river or lake, right?" Zhou Jian said at this moment.

"That's right, that's what I think too. It's much safer than the river or lakeside. It's quite common for small streams to be found near big rivers and lakes. The key is that we have to come across them."

Shen Ye nodded.

With so much sweat on his forehead, Shen Ye tore off a strip of cloth and tied it to his forehead to absorb the sweat, so as not to let the sweat affect his vision. At a critical moment, this small oversight could cost him his life.

"You should all tie a strip of cloth around your foreheads to prevent sweat from getting into your eyes and causing them to sting."

Shen Ye reminded him.

They tied strips of cloth around their necks as they traveled.

Suddenly, a tapping sound came from behind me.

Everyone quickly turned around and saw three slender dinosaurs walking rapidly towards them in the damp woodland. The clattering sound was the sound of them moving quickly through the wetland.

"What is that thing?"

Mike quickly pointed his spear behind him, and the others also quickly found cover to hide.

"It's a baby Gorgon with snakeskin!"

Shen Ye recognized him at a glance.

Their bodies are covered with thick scales of dark brown and gray-black, with a row of dark black raised ridges along the spine on their backs, and light gray on their bellies. The most distinctive feature that distinguishes them from Tyrannosaurus Rex is the pair of sharp horns at their lacrimal ridges.

These cubs also weigh 300 kilograms and have astonishing fighting power.

They didn't see Shen Ye and the others, and ran straight past them.

They looked as if they had been startled by something.

"Damn it, thank goodness they haven't found us!" Mike breathed a sigh of relief and cursed under his breath.
