Jiang Chu looked at him suspiciously.

Xie Jing met her gaze without any hesitation.

"...If you're itching to spar, go find a sparring partner," Jiang Chu tugged at his tie. "This is too dangerous, you know! It could easily turn into a classic soap opera."

Xie Jing raised an eyebrow. "What?"

"Look," Jiang Chu let go of her hand and counted on her fingers, "a very common trope is that you are attacked, stabbed, and lose your memory. When you wake up, you forget me and only remember a first love from a noble family."

"I don't have that—"

"Listen to me!" Jiang Chu glared at him. "In short, you two rekindle your romance, I leave sadly, go to a place far away from the capital, and there's a certain probability that I'll find out I'm pregnant. Years later, you meet a child who looks a lot like you."

"?"

Xie Jing looked at her with an indescribable gaze, as if he had just realized that his fiancée was a little fool.

"you mean--"

Xie Jing hesitated to speak, then stopped, then seemed to want to speak again.

There are just too many flaws here.

"...I was stabbed in the neck, but for some reason my hippocampus was damaged, and I lost my memory."

Xie Jing sighed, "So this stab was precisely made by piercing the base of the skull at a 45-degree angle upwards along the intervertebral space, bypassing the brainstem, and reaching the inner side of the temporal lobe, so that the neural pathways of the hippocampus could be severed without being fatal."

Jiang Chu: "..."

Xie Jing: "This kind of person should work in a hospital. The neurosurgery department has been waiting for such a miracle doctor for a long time."

"Pfft," Jiang Chu couldn't hold back any longer, "Well, it might not have been caused by a stab. Maybe you fell down and hit your head while dodging or something."

Xie Jing grabbed her head and pressed it down. "Can't you wish me well for once?"

"That's just one possibility," Jiang Chu continued, counting on his fingers. "But there's another possibility: maybe I'll rush in and take the knife for you, and then I'll have amnesia."

Xie Jing scoffed, "What novels have you been reading? Does someone like that even deserve to be the male lead?"

"Ouch," Jiang Chu couldn't help but pinch his cheek, "It was my initiative, not yours to drag me here as a shield. Besides, if I had been able to realize what was happening, I really would have—"

Xie Jing lowered his head and kissed her.

The unspoken words were cut off.

The kiss was still forceful, and seemed to carry a hint of anger.

The man's lips and tongue pressed against hers with irresistible force, pried open her teeth, and plunged in.

Jiang Chu was a little dazed from the kiss. She tried to push him away by placing her hands on his chest, but he pulled her into his arms even tighter.

His large hand gripped the back of her head, his fingertips sinking into her soft hair, holding her at a distance from which she could not retreat.

After a long while, he finally released her, his forehead pressed against hers, his breathing heavy and hot.

The man's thumb caressed her lower lip, which was reddened from being kissed, his voice low and husky.

"Don't do that."

His gaze was fixed on her intently, as if trying to etch his own reflection into her pupils.

"You need to protect yourself. I have far more experience dealing with these kinds of things than you do, so don't do anything foolish."

Jiang Chu's eyelashes trembled slightly, as if she wanted to say something, but her gaze stopped her.

She didn't say anything in the end, but simply reached out and wrapped her arms around his neck, buried her face in his shoulders and neck, and hugged him tightly.

"...We'll see."

Jiang Chu muttered softly.

Xie Jing looked at the girl leaning on his shoulder, and his gaze softened.

He turned around, picked up Jiang Chu, and carried her into the suite.

The lights were dimmed to a warm, yellowish hue. Xie Jing gently placed her on the large bed and then leaned over to cover her.

His tall, sturdy body completely filled her field of vision, pressing down like a mountain brimming with potential energy.

Jiang Chu nestled in the soft pillow.

She looked up and watched the man loosen his tie, slowly unbutton two buttons on his shirt, revealing a well-defined collarbone and a firm, full chest.

Jiang Chu blinked, her gaze lingering for a moment on the exposed skin. "You mentioned being attacked before...were you shot?"

Xie Jing paused slightly, looked down at her, and said, "Guess."

Jiang Chu pondered for a moment, "I don't remember you having any marks that look like gunshot wounds, that's why I asked."

She reached out, her fingertips tracing the edge of the man's open shirt, as if she wanted to pull it open for a closer look.

Xie Jing chuckled softly but did not reply.

He grabbed her hand and pulled her towards his left chest.

My palm pressed against that hot, undulating muscle.

He spoke in a very serious tone: "Here."

Jiang Chu's heart skipped a beat.

A warm touch traveled through her fingertips, and she instinctively held her breath. "Something's not right..."

The girl's fingertips gently traced his chest, searching for the gunshot scar she imagined should exist.

"I've touched this spot so many times, I don't remember doing it here—"

The skin beneath her palms was smooth and firm, with only a steady, powerful heartbeat pounding against her fingertips through her muscles.

Xie Jing remained unfazed, his deep voice conveying confidence: "Feel it more carefully, a little to the left, near the ribs."

Jiang Chu leaned closer, her fingertips slowly tracing the edge of his pectoral muscles, so focused that she even softened her breathing.

Her fingertips gently caressed the firm muscles below her collarbone, then traced the curve of her ribs downwards, the touch still smooth, like warm jade.

"Still no," she frowned, "or has it healed already?"

Xie Jing grasped her hand and guided her towards his side, his tone unusually serious, "This way."

Jiang Chu's palm rested on his strong waist, feeling the taut, powerful muscle lines through his shirt, and then she touched him carefully for a long time.

Apart from his rock-hard abs and warm skin, there were still no marks.

Jiang Chu: "..."

She looked up abruptly, meeting Xie Jing's dark eyes burning with desire.

The man looked down at her, his gaze intensely focused, as if he wanted to devour her, yet with a hint of a smile.

"Thank you, Jing!"

Jiang Chu's face flushed bright red, and she glared at him angrily, "You lied to me! You didn't have a gunshot wound at all, right! You did it on purpose!"

"Who said there wasn't?" Xie Jing said slowly, "You touched me for so long just now... I felt like I'd been shot in the gut."

"Don't give me that!"

Jiang Chu was furious and embarrassed. She raised her fist to punch his chest, but the man quickly grabbed her wrist and easily propped her up on the pillow.

Xie Jing lowered his head, his hot breath brushing against her nose, his voice husky with suppressed laughter: "I'm sorry, let me make it up to you."

"What kind of nonsense is this?!"

Before Jiang Chu could finish speaking, he silenced her with a kiss.

His kiss was deep and intense, tinged with the mischievous satisfaction of having triumphantly succeeded in teasing her, his burning lips and tongue capturing every breath she took.

Jiang Chu struggled a couple of times, but one of her arms was firmly held down by him, and her other hand pushed against his chest. Her palm touched that hot, smooth muscle, which made her fingertips tremble.

Before long, she softened, clutching his open shirt collar, her fingers unconsciously crumpling the fabric.

Only when her eyes reddened from lack of oxygen did Xie Jing finally release her reluctantly. He ran his thumb across her slightly swollen, moist lips and coaxed in a low, husky voice, "Okay, are you still angry?"

Jiang Chu glared at him with red eyes, "I'm ignoring you."

Xie Jing curved his lips into a smile, lowered his head and kissed her forehead again, then pulled her tightly into his arms, resting his chin on the top of her head.

"I was wrong, okay?"

"Oh no!" Jiang Chu said angrily, "To be honest, when that guy surnamed Lei stabbed you earlier, wasn't it because I was behind you that you didn't dodge!"
