Jiang Chu lowered her head slightly, revealing a section of her slender, snow-white neck, with her fluffy, black curls falling over her shoulders.

Her off-white cashmere cardigan and matching tank top made her skin look even more radiant.

The loose fit conceals some of the curves, but adds a touch of cleanliness, softness, and even a fragile beauty.

The assistants and technicians had long since stopped paying attention and pretended not to exist.

But the tense, highly efficient work atmosphere in the air momentarily froze and relaxed because of her appearance and that soft thank you.

Xie Jing's gaze fell on her, and he tapped the edge of his laptop lightly with his fingertip, without responding to her immediately.

"Buzzing—buzzing—"

A sudden cell phone vibration broke the silence.

Jiang Chu quickly took out his phone and glanced at it.

Wei Jing called.

She hung up without hesitation.

The screen went dark for less than two seconds before turning back on, and the vibration started again.

Jiang Chu hung up again, this time pressing and holding the side button to mute the phone.

"They keep calling," Xie Jing's deep voice suddenly rang out, "perhaps they're in a hurry."

Jiang Chu raised her head and met his gaze.

The man remained seated, relaxed, one hand casually resting on the sofa armrest, the other elbow propped on the armrest, fingertips touching his chin, quietly watching her.

"It doesn't matter anymore," Jiang Chu lowered her head. "When I was pushed into the pool and surrounded by a group of people laughing at me, I didn't see him get anxious at all."

Xie Jing immediately knew who was calling.

That's the kid from earlier.

The man's dark eyes narrowed as he thought back to his assistant's previous report.

Of all the classmates Xie Qingyang invited today, only this guy named Wei Jing brought his girlfriend.

The other young masters and ladies, many of whom were in relationships, all came alone.

"Answer it," Xie Jing suddenly said. "Make it clear so we don't have to call again and bother people."

Jiang Chu paused for a moment.

This is not a matter for discussion.

Did he also realize that Xie Qingyang treated Wei Jing differently, so he wanted to learn more about Wei Jing?

Yeah.

Jiang Chu took a deep breath, pressed the answer button, but instead of putting it to her ear, she turned on speakerphone.

"Jiang Chu?"

A cold male voice came through the receiver, his anxiety and impatience almost overflowing.

"Where are you?"

Wei Jing asked.

Jiang Chu remained calm. "You're only asking this now? Isn't it a bit too late?"

There was a noticeable pause on the other end of the phone.

A few seconds later, Wei Jing's voice grew even deeper, tinged with suppressed anger: "Jiang Chu, you've gone too far tonight. Leaving aside your physical altercation with Lin Yuwei and hitting her with a kettle! Did you also offend Mr. Xie? Do you even know who he is?"

Jiang Chu lowered her eyes and quickly glanced at the man beside her.

Xie Jing was also looking at her from the side.

Their eyes met for a moment, then Jiang Chu pursed her lips and quickly looked away.

Jiang Chu: "...Is he Miss Xie's father? I heard he's a very remarkable businessman."

Wei Jing scoffed, as if he already knew she wouldn't say anything insightful.

"That's the chairman of Tianyu Group!" Wei Jing said coldly. "He can influence the power grid's scheduling and determine the allocation of rare earth export quotas with just a word! Those powerful family heads in Beijing that you've only seen in the news all have to be careful around him! The Xie family has been in charge of industry since the Republic of China era; they're deeply entrenched and their methods are unfathomable!"

He chuckled softly, "Forget it, you wouldn't understand even if I told you all this."

Wei Jing had already left Xie Qingyang's car and entered his own residential area, so he spoke with even less restraint.

"...But did you know that a few years ago, someone got drunk at a banquet and said a few bad things about the Xie family? Within three months, their family's market value evaporated by more than half, and that person simply disappeared!"

He spoke quickly, in a lecturing tone, "Jiang Chu, this is no joke! And—"

"That's enough," Jiang Chu interrupted him. "Wei Jing, are you very familiar with Miss Xie's father?"

"What?" Wei Jing didn't react for a moment.

"I'll say it," Jiang Chu said slowly and deliberately, "you speak with such certainty, as if you've personally witnessed Mr. Xie's actions... Do you and Chairman Xie meet frequently, or do you have business dealings?"

Wei Jing was taken aback by her question. Of course, he didn't know Xie Jing. Tonight was the first time he had met her in person. He had mostly heard those things from people in the industry.

"If we're not close," Jiang Chu sneered, "Miss Xie kindly invited you to a gathering at her villa, and you turned around and talked about her father behind her back, saying all sorts of baseless rumors. Do you think that's appropriate?"

"Jiang Chu! What nonsense are you spouting!" Wei Jing was clearly hit where it hurt, his voice suddenly rising, "I was doing this for your own good! To remind you not to be so arrogant as to offend the wrong people! Not everyone is as magnanimous as Qingyang!"

"Please don't use me as an excuse to cover up your slanderous and defamatory behavior," Jiang Chu said, enunciating each word clearly. "Wei Jing, you're a disgusting ingrate. It's a shame Miss Xie considered you a friend; I'm truly ashamed of you!"

"You! You!!!"

Wei Jing was so angry he was practically fuming.

He was clearly seething with anger and wanted to teach her a lesson, but instead, she ended up teaching him a lesson instead!

Wei Jing was shocked, angry, and bewildered.

In his memory, Jiang Chu was materialistic, vain, and very superficial. He believed whatever Jiang Chu said and would argue unreasonably even when he was unhappy.

She can't even come up with a complete opinion on a phenomenon, let alone argue or debate with someone logically!

Now they've managed to shut him up completely?!

Jiang Chu possesses unparalleled beauty, but comes from a poor family and is also foolish.

Wei Jing always looked down on her in this relationship.

Now, being criticized from a moral high ground by the other party, he felt a strong sense of discomfort.

"I'm your boyfriend!" Wei Jing said. "Is this how you talk to me?"

"Now you remember you're my boyfriend?" Jiang Chu sneered. "Where were you when Lin Yuwei pushed me into the pool and those people were laughing at me? If you don't act like a boyfriend, don't expect the treatment a boyfriend should receive. Oh, since we're talking about this, let's break up."
