Both start in hell: but their talents are multiplied a hundredfold.
Chapter 404 The Confused Little Spider, The Current State of Earth
Peter wasn't startled by Shen Jue's sudden appearance. He muttered to himself in confusion:
"It seems like New York and the surrounding cities don't need Spider-Man anymore."
"Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and even New Jersey."
"The Blackwatch cyborgs have reduced the crime rate in these areas to zero."
"New York's prisons are overflowing."
"So Blackwatch built a prison on that battlefield specifically to house criminals."
"I swung for four hours last night, just to help an old lady get her cat down from the tree."
She even asked me if I was an intern at Blackwatch.
"I'm even starting to wonder if there's any point in me wearing this outfit anymore."
"If no one needs to be saved, what's left of Spider-Man?"
"If crime has disappeared, should superheroes also disappear?"
"I don't know if I should continue being a superhero."
"But if I'm not Spider-Man, then who am I?"
"Peter Parker? An ordinary guy who can't pay his rent and is always late?"
"Should I send my resume to Blackwatch? At least they seem to be doing real work."
"Oh my god, I'm talking to myself."
"And I actually seriously considered this option."
"This is probably the worst day of my life."
"Perhaps, it was the most lucid day of my life."
He looked down at the mask in his hand, his thumb rubbing the rough red fabric, and hesitated to put it on.
That's right. In the past few months, Dou Sha Bao has taken over the reins of Blackwatch from Shen Jue.
The New York city area, which was completely enveloped by Shen Jue's electromagnetic field, was forcibly demolished by Dou Sha Bao and rebuilt using Hive robots produced by the Black Watchtower.
Tony was quite helpless, but he couldn't stop Dou Sha Bao's actions.
Because Jarvis's underlying logic framework has been quietly altered by Doushabao.
The two AIs completely dominated the urban battlefield and, amidst the American government's exasperation, began the mission left behind by Shen Jue before he left.
Having occupied the city, they began to utilize the biotechnology and warship technology left behind by the Chitauri.
This led to the creation of the black building complex.
Shen Jue patted Peter's shoulder with a cheerful smile, the force of which was neither too light nor too heavy, but it made Peter sway slightly.
"Young man, I heard everything you just said."
"To be honest, it's quite interesting."
"You want to know if you're still of any use, right?"
"Then let me ask you a question."
Shen Jue stretched out a finger and pointed to the cluster of black buildings in the distance.
"Guess what they're doing in there?"
Peter paused for a moment, then instinctively replied, "Blackwatch is building something?"
"Yes, make things." Shen Jue withdrew his finger, his smile deepening.
"But do you know what they're building?"
"The Chitauri's biotechnology, warship technology, and the alien wreckage salvaged from the battlefield."
"Honeycomb Robotics is reverse engineering, Red Bean Bun is analyzing data, Tony is cursing, and the American government is just watching helplessly."
"And at the heart of all this is biotechnology."
"Guess who's one of the most knowledgeable people about biotechnology on the planet?"
Peter opened his mouth, and the mask almost slipped off his hand.
"I... I'm just a high school student."
"You're a high school student who was bitten by a radioactive spider, whose genes are perfectly fused with the spider's, and who can even synthesize spider silk on your own." Shen Jue raised his second finger.
"Guess what you could create if you used all those abilities in a biotechnology lab?"
"Materials stronger than spider silk, sensors more sensitive than spider senses, and medical technologies more efficient than existing human technology systems."
"As a vigilante, you can save one person, two people, or even the people on an entire street."
"But if you put your talents into Blackwatch's biotechnology division, you could save all of New York, the entire East Coast, and even the entire planet."
"Given your unique talents as a mutated superhuman, being a researcher is more meaningful than being a vigilante."
Peter remained silent for a long time, looking down at the mask in his hand.
"But what about Spider-Man?"
Shen Jue smiled and gave the question serious thought.
Spider-Man?
"Spider-Man can certainly continue to exist."
"He just doesn't have to wander around catching thieves every day anymore."
"He can study biotechnology in the lab during the day, and then wear this outfit at night to help the old lady find her cat."
"Or, he could take off his mask and put on a black Watchers uniform."
"I want you to know that Peter, your talent in biotechnology can help far more people than you can help as a vigilante."
"You yourself said that New York's crime rate has dropped to zero."
"Then shouldn't you use your abilities in a different way?"
Peter looked up at Shen Jue, and the confusion in his eyes was gradually replaced by something else.
"Do I really have a talent for scientific research?"
Shen Jue smiled.
"more than."
"You can create a hero even stronger than Spider-Man."
"But this time, the hero doesn't need to wear a bodysuit."
Peter looked down at the mask, his thumb rubbing the rough red fabric, and remained silent for a long time.
Then he looked up, and the confusion in his eyes had been replaced by a kind of determination.
"Father Shen Jue, you are right."
"My brain can save more lives than my role as a vigilante."
"Spider-Man can continue to exist, but Peter Parker should go back to what Peter Parker is supposed to do."
He folded the mask, put it in his pocket, and reached out his hand to Shen Jue.
"Please let me join."
Shen Jue grasped his hand, smiling like an old headmaster who had just abducted a genius boy.
"Welcome to the team, Peter."
"The Blackwatch Biotechnology Department is waiting for you."
"And the salaries I can pay are quite high!"
Peter's eyes lit up, and he instinctively gripped Shen Jue's hand tightly.
After all, Peter was also worried about the terrible student loan problem in America.
Just as Peter followed Shen Jue through the electromagnetic field toward the black building complex, Tony Stark was standing in a secluded communications room in a Stark Industries building outside the Black Watch complex.
In the center of the communications room is a huge holographic projection screen displaying the faces of political figures from around the world.
The face of the American president occupies the largest part of the image in the center, his expression as somber as the sky before a storm.
Even his dashing, fluffy golden hair was plastered tightly to his scalp.
"Stark, we demand that you disclose all of Blackwatch and Stark Industries' technology." The president's voice came through the communicator.
Tony's face showed a mocking expression as he picked up his coffee cup and took a sip.
"public?"
"Who should we make this public to? You?"
"You can't even figure out Jarvis, yet you want to understand Blackwatch's technology?"
The president's expression darkened further: "Stark, this is a national security requirement!"
"National security?" Tony put down his coffee cup and scoffed.
"Mr. President, do you know what material the screws on that Chitauri mothership are made of?"
"You don't know because you've never even seen it."
"Let me put it this way: even if I put the complete set of blueprints, the complete process flow, and the complete material formula in front of you, it would still take your laboratories several years to replicate a single qualified screw."
The communications room was silent for a few seconds.
The leader of another country tried to speak: "Mr. Stark, we are not asking for all the technology, we just hope..."
"What do you want? You want me to dismantle the shotgun, distribute the parts to you, and let you deal with the wolves?"
Tony interrupted him, his voice turning cold.
"Do you guys even realize what Jarvis and Red Bean's actions mean?"
"All you do is ask me for Blackwatch and Stark Industries technology! You have no idea what situation Earth is facing right now!"
"Then I'll tell you some things you don't know."
He raised his hand and swiped on the holographic projection table, and a scan of the interior of a Chitauri spaceship unfolded before everyone.
"Based on the data left behind by the Chitauri, their massive mothership fleet!"
"Just cannon fodder for an interstellar empire! A slave."
"And their master is very likely currently traversing the edge of the Virgo Supercluster!"
"According to the data left by the Chitauri, their masters conquered countless civilizations and inhabited planets!"
Tony paused for a moment, watching the expressions on the faces of those politicians change from dissatisfaction to confusion, and then from confusion to fear.
"And damn it, Earthlings can't even leave the solar system!"
The communications room fell completely silent.
The American president's lips moved, but no sound came out.
"Don't even think about relying on those few aliens who landed recently," Tony sneered. "Those guys are nothing more than interstellar mercenaries or something."
"Are we going to rely on them to fight against the Chitauri's masters?"
"That's simply a fantasy."
"Perhaps, once they leave Earth, those aliens will package up the Earth and sell it to other interstellar civilizations."
Tony leaned back in his chair, picked up his coffee cup, and resumed his nonchalant, sarcastic tone.
"So, gentlemen, you now have two choices."
"First, keep arguing with me here, demanding that I disclose the technology to you so you can use it to write reports, hold hearings, and engage in political posturing."
"Second, shut up and let Blackwatch and Stark Industries do what they have to do."
"Don't try to surrender, because when facing that kind of being, humanity doesn't even have the chance to surrender."
"They will only end up like the Chitauri, their civilization castrated and enslaved."
"Two options, choose whichever you like."
"But don't block my way."
He reached out and pressed the button to cut off communication, and all the faces on the holographic projection table disappeared at the same time.
Tony sat alone in the communications room, staring at the empty holographic projection, and fell into silence.
Then he said something in a low voice.
Jarvis.
"I'm here, sir."
"Send a copy of the conversation to Doushabao."
"Tell her that if Shen Jue doesn't return, the Earth could be destroyed at any moment."
"I can develop anti-Hulk armor, anti-cyborg armor, but do you expect me to develop armor capable of destroying a planet in a short period of time?"
"I can't do that right now."
"Sir," Jarvis's gentle voice came through, "Father Shen Jue has returned to Earth."
He looked a little tired.
"Huh?" Tony's face showed a question mark. He was exasperated, but then said with a sigh of relief, "Oh!"
"Damn Shen Jue!"
"Did he go to fight another alien fleet?!"
"No, no... I'd rather believe he went to another planet to woo humanoid alien beauties!"
