Both start in hell: but their talents are multiplied a hundredfold.
Chapter 406 Entering, one can only endure it.
Shen Jue turned around and took a step toward the electromagnetic field.
The invisible force field wall rippled outwards like water before him, revealing a passage wide enough for three people to walk side by side.
Jessica raised an eyebrow and put the unlit cigarette back into her pocket.
Wanda hesitated for a moment, the crimson light flickering at her fingertips, but she eventually followed.
The passageway wasn't the metal corridor from a science fiction movie I'd imagined; instead, it resembled an ordinary city street, only the surface was excessively clean, with not a single fallen leaf in sight.
The buildings on both sides are low and neat, with their curtain walls reflecting the gray-white sunlight.
Shen Jue walked at the front to lead the way for the two.
Jessica followed behind, looking around and muttering, "This place is cleaner than I thought."
Wanda didn't speak; her gaze remained fixed on the approaching black outline in the distance.
After walking for about ten minutes, the road beneath their feet began to slope slightly upwards, as if they were stepping onto a slope leading to the top of a mountain.
Then, they emerged from the cover of the low-rise buildings.
Wanda stopped in her tracks.
Jessica also stopped in her tracks.
Before them stood a massive, black building complex that seemed to pierce the sky.
That's simply not a building that humans could construct!
It rises from the ground, its base so wide it looks as if the entire island of Manhattan has been erected, piercing the sky and finally disappearing into the depths of the clouds.
Wanda tilted her head back, straining to raise her neck to its limit, but still couldn't see the top of it.
The clouds swirled around its waist, and further up, there were even higher parts hidden in the gray-white sky.
Jessica opened her mouth, and the unlit cigarette fell out of her pocket and rolled to the ground, but she didn't pick it up.
"Fuck." Her voice was soft, but it did not escape Shen Jue's notice.
Shen Jue turned around, smiled slightly at her, and said, "Take a deep breath."
"It's normal to feel dizzy when you first see this."
Wanda's pupils dilated slightly, and a crimson light flashed unconsciously in her eyes before she suppressed it.
An instinctive, primal fear, deep within her ancient genes, rose from the base of her spine, spreading down her back to the back of her head.
That's megalophobia, the dizziness that occurs when a human stands in front of a colossal object beyond their comprehension, and the brain refuses to process the information before them.
She felt like an ant standing at the foot of a towering tree, which was growing upwards at a visible rate.
Jessica's hand unconsciously and gently grasped Wanda's arm.
"Although we've met many times already..."
"But I still have to ask."
"How tall is this thing now?" Jessica's voice was a little dry.
"Twelve thousand meters," Shen Jue replied.
"After I returned to Earth, Dou Sha Bao decisively began to increase the height of the factory."
Wanda felt her stomach sink down.
Twelve thousand meters, that's 1.3 times the altitude of Mount Everest, and 1.2 times the cruising altitude of a commercial airliner.
This is something that humans have never built before.
Jessica released Wanda's arm, slowly squatted down, and placed her hands on her knees.
"I need to slow down," she said.
Wanda didn't squat down; she forced herself to keep her head tilted back, looking at the massive black object.
Its surface is slowly flowing, like liquid metal, or like countless tiny nanomachines crawling on the surface, reflecting a cold, black hole-like luster.
Countless hive robots were constantly moving in and out, transporting large quantities of strange materials.
The feeling of looking up at the black building made Wanda very uncomfortable, just like the dizziness she felt when she stood alone on the edge of a cliff and looked down at her feet.
"Let's go," Shen Jue said. "Pietro is waiting in my office."
Wanda finally lowered her head, and her cervical spine made a slight clicking sound.
She watched Shen Jue's retreating figure; Father Shen Jue was now the most prominent figure on Earth.
Months ago, this priest, who was suspected to be a living saint and the reincarnation of the angel Michael, single-handedly ended the invasion of alien invaders.
Incidentally, it also shattered the alien invaders' homeworld into a mass of organic and inorganic matter within minutes.
He possesses power beyond human imagination, and it is precisely because of this that countries around the world have allowed Blackwatch and Stark Industries to act with impunity.
Jessica stood up, dusted off her knees, picked up the cigarette from the ground, and put it back in her pocket.
"This is insane," she whispered. "Those damn politicians trying to acquire Blackwatch's technology?"
"Those office-bound bitches should really see for themselves what Blackwatch is all about!"
Wanda didn't speak. She started walking and followed Shen Jue toward the entrance of the black building.
The entrance is a huge archway, so tall that it makes you feel like you're stepping into a mythical kingdom of giants.
Inside the archway was a soft white light, with no shadows or dead corners, just an artificial light that evenly filled every corner.
The moment Wanda stepped across the threshold, she glanced back at what was behind her.
The electromagnetic field appears as a transparent film from a distance, distorting the outside world into blurry patches of color.
She turned around, took a deep breath, and followed Shen Jue into the depths of that white light.
Jessica followed half a step behind her, hands in her pockets, muttering to herself, "Are we going to take the elevator up?"
"Oh, this kind of sci-fi building can't possibly be like those trashy movies from the 70s and 80s where they use elevators to transport supplies, can it?"
Shen Jue led the two through the white light and into a huge hall with a dome so high that the top was invisible.
The floor of the hall was made of some kind of dark gray alloy, as smooth as a mirror, reflecting the distant white light overhead, which was cut into countless squares by a structural grid.
Jessica looked around, her mouth slightly open, then closed again.
Wanda's gaze was drawn to the dense array of teleportation portals in the center of the hall.
Hundreds of portals are arranged in a neat matrix, averaging several meters high, shaped like vertical oval water surfaces, with a dark silver metal frame inlaid around the edge.
Each portal was a different color; some were a deep blue, some a dark red, and some a chaotic gray-white.
Wanda sensed the folds in space; behind each portal lay a different coordinate, location, and height.
Jessica whispered, "This is a fucking portal station."
Shen Jue nodded, her steps unwavering: "This is the hub for the flow of supplies and the dispatch of personnel; the entire operation of Blackwatch begins here."
These portals are the technological means that Dou Sha Bao has obtained by studying the iCosmic Cube·Space Gem according to the ideas given by Shen Jue.
On the left side of the hall, hundreds of people dressed in various colors were lined up in more than a dozen long queues, waiting to enter the portal.
Among them were middle-aged men in suits, street thugs covered in tattoos, pale-faced young women, and several thin figures in lab coats.
Each person wore a silver ring on their wrist; that was a positioning and electric shock device.
These people are the criminals arrested by the Black Watch Security Brigade.
As a detective, Jessica can even spot a few familiar supervillains among them.
The criminals had different expressions; most of them kept their heads down and remained silent, some whispered to the people next to them, and others stared blankly at the teleportation portals.
But no one tried to escape.
Wanda noticed that everyone's gaze would quickly shift away when it swept over the guards.
The guards were a group of cyborgs over two meters tall, covered in matte black armor, with only a horizontal red optical sensor on their faces.
Holding futuristic energy weapons, they stood quietly on either side of the line, like rows of emotionless metal statues.
Among these cyborgs, three yellow figures stood out conspicuously.
A round, yellow creature was perched on a metal table, its two bulging eyes slowly scanning the line.
That's a baby frog.
Standing next to it was a tall, muscular, yellow creature with two short horns on its head, holding a data panel and checking the information of the criminals one by one.
That's a cow.
There was also a short, stout creature, like a yellow ball of fur, pacing around the group, stopping every now and then to pat a criminal's leg with its short claws to signal them to stand still, and then say something.
"You guys are really bold."
Jessica stared at the three yellow creatures for several seconds.
"Well, although it's not the first time I've seen them, I still think these three creatures were created because of your wicked sense of humor, Father."
"You're absolutely right," Shen Jue said with a smile. "I'm not some old fogey."
"Besides, when it's time to make use of waste, we should."
Jessica looked at the milk frog, knowing it was her former enemy and nightmare, the Purple Man.
But seeing the purple man's current state, Jessica felt a surge of pleasure again, and a natural smile appeared on her face.
A tall, thin man in a gray prison uniform was pulled out of the line by Niu Lai.
"Everything has been confirmed. Line up to enter the labor reform center."
The sound of cattle approaching caused a stir among the criminals.
The man numbly looked down at the ground, then followed a cyborg toward a portal emitting a ghostly blue light.
Wanda saw that the criminals in the line were being called out by their numbers one by one, escorted by cyborgs, and heading toward the door.
The gray prison uniforms blended seamlessly into the dim blue light, silent and orderly.
They stepped into the water-curtain-like facade, their bodies disappearing one after another as if swallowed by water.
The metal frame at the edge of the portal lit up again and again, only to return to stillness each time.
The criminals were thus collectively sent into the portal.
"What awaits them is education in thinking and cognition," Shen Jue said.
"No matter how vicious the serial killer or supervillain."
"They will all successfully change their mindset, sincerely repent, and contribute to spreading love and peace."
Jessica put her hands in her pockets, holding the unlit cigarette.
"Blackwatch doesn't have law enforcement authority, right?"
Shen Jue smiled slightly and said, "So what?"
"If the American government is unhappy, then so be it."
"Perhaps they could try to shove a nuclear bomb into my head in order to protect the freedom and human rights of these criminals."
Shen Jue tapped his head with his hand.
"By then, I'll see how many heads they have."
Jessica chuckled upon hearing this.
