Kyoto Night Kiss

Chapter 76 The Answer to Elopement

What if she wants to get back together?

Qu Yun's clenched fingers turned bluish-white, and her eyes, like a sharpened blade, slashed straight at Tang Bingqing.

Silence is the best answer at this moment.

Tang Bingqing's smile suddenly froze. She stared at Qu Yun's unchanging expression, never expecting that she had actually guessed right.

She wouldn't allow that to happen.

"Qu Yun, you don't still naively believe that the wedding was just Lu Junhe's choice, that you can cancel the wedding or annul the engagement, do you?" Tang Bingqing slowly composed herself.

She said, "Once the wedding was announced, it was no longer just a matter between him and me. It was a binding of the capital of the Lu and Tang families, generations of connections, and the entire business chain."

"If the wedding is canceled, the Lu family's reputation will collapse, their stock price will fluctuate, and banks will withdraw loans. What do you think will happen to Lu Junhe, as the heir of the Lu family?"

Qu Yun's eyes darkened, and she listened quietly.

"All the prestige, status, and influence he's built up over the years will be wiped out. He'll be completely eliminated from his current circle. Even if Lu Junhe can withstand these consequences, can you, Qu Yun, withstand them?"

Tang Bingqing paused for a moment, her tone filled with undisguised sarcasm: "Let me put it another way, you, Qu Yun, can be indifferent to fame and fortune."

"But can you bear the consequences? For you, Lu Junhe will ruin his entire family, destroy his future, and bear the stain on his reputation for the rest of his life?"

Qu Yun felt as if her neck was being choked, making it impossible for her to breathe.

Tang Bingqing's voice wasn't loud, but it sounded deafening to her ears.

Yes, can she afford it?

I almost thought happiness was something within easy reach.

If Lu Junhe had to choose between her and his future.

Don't hesitate, she will help him choose.

—Choose your future.

Even if she will never be a part of my future.

"You don't need to be so nervous." Qu Yun had regained her previous calmness, and there was no trace of emotion in her voice.

"I have never said that I would try to win Lu Junhe back."

Tang Bingqing's tense body gradually relaxed, and much of the hostility between her brows disappeared.

Regardless, she wanted the wedding to proceed smoothly.

As long as Qu Yun is alright, Lu Junhe won't cause trouble.

"It's good that you think that way." Tang Bingqing's face regained its gentle smile. "To be honest, as long as the wedding goes well, I won't treat you unfairly."

"Besides, don't you want custody of your child? I will actively help you fight for it. After all, I don't really like being a stepmother to other people's children. Lu Junhe and I will eventually have our own children."

Qu Yun lowered her eyelashes and said softly, "Then thank you very much, Miss Tang."

As soon as she left the ward, Tang Bingqing called the private investigator she had hired and told him not to follow Qu Yun anymore.

Don't let it backfire if you're accidentally discovered.

The detective, however, was quite thoughtful, emphasizing, "Are you sure nothing will happen?"

Tang Bingqing watched the numbers on the elevator screen change from large to small, stroked her newly made wedding nails, and replied, "Yes, confirmed."

"Although I hate to admit it, Qu Yun is indeed a person of her word."

She appreciates that.

If they hadn't fallen in love with the same man, they might have become very good friends.

The elevator doors slowly opened, and Tang Bingqing hung up the phone and went inside. After pressing the number one button, she suddenly saw a very familiar figure behind a pillar in the corridor.

She seems to be her cousin?

"Manman..." Tang Bingqing had just called out when a man walked past her, his right hand half amputated.

Her cousin wouldn't know someone like that.

Perhaps she was seeing things.

Tang Bingqing left the hospital feeling relaxed, as she was going to try on wedding dresses.

Qu Yun gave the fruit basket to the nurses' station. Not long after she returned to her ward, Lu Junhe woke up and came to find her.

She was glad she had acted quickly enough.

The man's face was still very pale. Although he had deliberately buttoned up the top button of his hospital gown, the fabric at the shoulders was still slightly bulging, revealing the outline of the bandaged wound.

Qu Yun's nose stung with tears, and her tone was fierce: "Is your injury fully healed? What are you doing here?"

Lu Junhe did not answer, but walked step by step to the bedside.

He suddenly leaned closer and pressed his forehead against Qu Yun's.

Qu Yun was taken aback. In the instant their skin touched, she could feel the man's skin was slightly cool to the touch.

A moment later, his deep voice sounded in her ear, carrying a hint of relief: "It's alright, the fever is gone."

Qu Yun felt a tightness in her chest and anger. "Lu Junhe, what's wrong with you?"

"Do you know that your injuries are much more serious than my fever? You finally woke up, and instead of going to see a doctor, why are you coming to me?"

She was so angry she wanted to cry, but she couldn't shed a tear.

Lu Junhe chuckled softly.

"You're still laughing?" Qu Yun was utterly incredulous.

The next second, she was pulled firmly into a forceful embrace.

Lu Junhe's shoulder twitched slightly, accidentally aggravating his wound, but he only frowned slightly. He hugged Qu Yun tightly, a smile unconsciously spreading across his lips. "I'm not smiling."

"I was just wondering why people are so cute when they're angry."

Qu Yun was teased and instinctively wanted to struggle, but then she remembered the wound on the man's shoulder. She remained silent for a few seconds, but still managed to smell a faint scent of blood.

She asked, "Lu Junhe, has your wound reopened?"

"It's okay, let me hold you for a while."

Lu Junhe slowly closed his eyes.

This pain is nothing compared to the peace of mind I feel at this moment.

He was still thinking about what Qu Yun had said in the temple.

She was hopelessly in love with him.

After an unknown amount of time, Qu Yun finally heard the man in front of her ask, "Have you made up your mind?"

Let's elope.

Qu Yun's eyelashes trembled suddenly. She gently pulled away from Lu Junhe's embrace, looked at the lingering warmth in his eyes, and replied coldly, "Impossible."

"My career has finally gained a foothold, and I can't give it all up for you."

Lu Junhe nodded, understanding.

But he always manages to find a solution.

If Qu Yun really likes the hotel industry, he could easily open a hotel for her by clearing out all the private assets he has accumulated over the years without relying on his family.

Just as he was about to speak, Qu Yun's gaze fixed intently on him.

Every word felt like it was stabbing into his heart.

She retorted, "Who do you think you are?"

He pondered the question again: "What am I?"

Ignoring the bitterness in the man's words, Qu Yun took a deep breath, her eyes filled with impatience. "Lu Junhe, what do you think is the reason we're both hurting each other?"

"Don't you understand yet? I won't be safe until you marry Tang Bingqing."

"So, I'm begging you, please let me go, okay?"

As soon as he finished speaking, the air in the ward seemed to freeze.

Lu Junhe's shoulder wound throbbed faintly; the burning passion in his eyes just moments before had vanished, replaced by a chilling self-mockery.

He stared intently at Qu Yun, his voice hoarse: "So you've always thought that all my feelings for you were just endless entanglement."

Qu Yun nodded, her eyes showing no trace of sadness or reluctance. "Forcing someone to give them unwanted love, what is that if not entanglement?"

A low chuckle suddenly escaped Lu Junhe's throat.

A glaring dark red bloodstain gradually spread across the light gray hospital gown fabric.

Qu Yun panicked and instinctively tried to press the nurse call button.

Lu Junhe, however, seemed oblivious to the pain of the bleeding wound, staring intently at her and saying, "I will continue to marry Tang Bingqing."

"I'll keep you safe."

After saying that, he said no more and disappeared out of the ward.

Qu Yun stood there blankly, still able to recall the look in Lu Junhe's eyes just now.

It's as if they're asking her, "Are you satisfied now?"

She gave a bitter smile.

What else can I do if I'm not satisfied?
