Chapter 44 The Little Spider Searches for "Dad"

Peter Parker nervously opened the door, but breathed a sigh of relief when he saw the familiar blond hair.

(Gwen)

"What's wrong with you?" Gwen asked, puzzled. Before Peter Parker could explain, Gwen had already pushed him into the house.

"Let's go in first and then talk."

Peter Parker sat on the sofa, scratching his head. He was worried that Alice might suddenly wake up in the bedroom. Judging from what had happened on the roof, Alice was in great danger.

It would be bad if Alice lost control, or if Aunt May or Uncle Ben came back early.

"I want to tell you something," Gwen took a deep breath, determined to speak, when suddenly there was a tremor upstairs.

Gwen Stacy and Peter Parker stood up at the same time, feeling as if they had been electrocuted simultaneously.

The two looked at each other, both showing expressions of shock.

"Are you one too?" they both asked in unison.

Gwen was the first to react: "What's upstairs?"

"There's nothing there!" Peter Parker said hastily, but Gwen had already gone upstairs and found the source of the noise.

Alice, dressed in a red dress, had already sat up.

"Who is he?" Gwen asked, puzzled.

"Uh-huh," Peter Parker bit his lower lip, his body drenched in cold sweat, and after a moment's thought, he said, "She's my cousin."

"I've never heard of you having a distant cousin," Gwen said, frowning.

Peter Parker felt sweat beading on his face, splattering onto the floor. He chuckled awkwardly, "Distant relatives? It's normal for Aunt May, who's so kind, to have a few relatives she doesn't see often!"

"I remember now," Alice said, staring at the ring on her hand. "I'm an employee of the Umbrella Corporation. I'm—Alice! I have to stop them, stop the Umbrella!"

Alice got up from the bed again, but her legs gave way and she knelt on the floor. Peter Parker and Gwen quickly helped her up.

Gwen glanced at Peter Parker, who scratched his head and gave her a fawning smile.

"I heard this morning that someone attacked the Osborne Building. Was it you?" Gwen asked.

Peter Parker shook his head and then nodded repeatedly.

The spider-sense being activated simultaneously means that Gwen Stacy is Spider-Man just like herself, so there's nothing left to hide.

So he explained, "I wanted to explain to you at the Li Ang restaurant that day, but I didn't find a suitable opportunity. I didn't expect you to feel the same way."

Were you also bitten at the Osborne Building that day?

Gwen snorted, not pressing Peter Parker on his hidden agenda: "No, my origins are a bit complicated; I'll tell you later. The key question is, how are you going to explain her?"

"I was going to the Osborne Tower to find the spider that bit me and figure out what happened to me," Peter Parker said helplessly. "Then I saw her being captured by Umbrella Corporation's special operations team."

So I rescued her, but she seemed to have amnesia, and I couldn't get anything out of her.

Gwen Stacy looked at Alice, who had fainted again, and said, "It's not good to keep her wearing this. I have some of my mother's clothes at home. I'll go get a few. You stay here and watch over her. Don't let her move around."

We'll ask her again when she wakes up.

"Okay," Peter Parker nodded, watching Gwen Stacy's figure disappear from sight, scratching his head, "Something feels off."

A short while later, Gwen Stacy returned carrying some of her mother's clothes, and Alice woke up.

Gwen Stacy asked Peter Parker to go out and help Alice change her clothes.

Peter Parker then came back in.

"Who are you?" Alice asked warily, hugging her knees.

Peter Parker glanced at Gwen Stacy and reluctantly took out an outfit made from a hoodie from his backpack.

"It's me, the one who saved you." Peter Parker took off his hood.

Gwen Stacy shook her head: "No wonder you can't catch Mary Jane; your taste is beyond saving!"

"So it was you." Alice said with a sigh of relief. "Who is she?"

"My best friend, the kind you can talk to about anything. Cough cough..." Peter Parker ignored Gwen's murderous glare.

Gwen asked, "Before you passed out, you said you wanted to stop the Umbrella Corporation? Stop what?"

Alice looked distressed and confused, like someone who had been assigned a task but couldn't remember it as soon as they left the house.

"I can't remember, but the Umbrella Corporation is conducting a very dangerous research project, Wesker... Wesker will destroy the Earth!"

"Who is Wesker?" Peter Parker scratched his head and said, "His name isn't on the list of high-ranking officials released by Umbrella."

"Destroy the Earth?" Gwen asked, puzzled. "How?"

"Virus..." Alice stood up. "I can't remember right now. I only remember inhaling some kind of hallucinogenic gas in my house, then going through a long corridor and some corners, and then I came to the first floor."

They wanted to take me back, but you stopped them.

"The basement of the Osborn Building?" Peter Parker immediately pulled out several Umbrella Corporation documents from his pocket, which contained auxiliary diagrams of the Osborn Building's underground laboratory.

"If I could get there, I think I would remember," Alice said regretfully.

Gwen Stacy shook her head and said, "Peter Parker just rescued you. The Osborne Tower must be heavily guarded. It won't be easy to sneak in. Besides, it's said that Umbrella Corporation's smart terminals are just as good as Stark Industries' Jarvis."

"Hey!" Peter Parker suddenly exclaimed with a smile, his eyes lighting up. "I've got someone who'd be willing to help us."

"Who?" Gwen Stacy asked curiously, "Dr. Connors?"

"No, it's Tony Stark! I met him when I visited Stark Industries, and I even got his business card!" Peter Parker excitedly pulled out Tony Stark's business card from his closet.

"The number you dialed is not in service."

Peter Parker put down his phone: "How could this happen?"

"It seems Tony Stark's phone was confiscated by terrorists," Gwen Stacy said. "Is there any other way?"

"Let's go find Tony together; he definitely still recognizes me," Peter Parker said. "If Tony Stark agrees to help us by having Jarvis temporarily hack Umbrella Technology's smart terminals, we can easily infiltrate."

"I'll go too," Alice said. "I have a feeling that traveling with you will help me regain my memories."

"But your face is all over New York now, and so is yours, Peter Parker's—even though you're both wearing masks," Gwen Stacy said after a moment's thought. "Looks like we'll have to get you both some new outfits so no one can tell."
