Chapter 48 Preparing to Head to Raccoon City
"Your people?" Nick Fury frowned.
After receiving Pepper's distress call, Nick Fury rushed over immediately, but it was too late.
As America's premier intelligence agency, S.H.I.E.L.D. even collaborates with the UN Security Council, and its influence extends almost globally.
But on home soil, the primary agency is always the military, and S.H.I.E.L.D. has a hard time competing with the military.
For a specific example, refer to "The Avengers," where the military could even forcibly order aircraft on a space carrier to drop nuclear bombs on New York.
Wesker glanced at his watch: "Thirty-seven seconds left. Looks like we'll have to reschedule. Think carefully about my suggestion, Stark."
Tony Stark shrugged and said nonchalantly, "I need to go back and have some champagne to celebrate."
"This little thing on your chest might save your life, but only temporarily. You and I both know that, Tony." Wesker sat down in the helicopter, drawing out the last syllable, his voice tinged with amusement.
Admiral Ross glanced at Stark's armor: "If you change your mind, then contact Roddy."
After saying that, General Ross turned to leave, but Gwen Stacy suddenly blocked his way.
"Wait, you can take Wesker, but you can't take her too!" Gwen Stacy's voice was firm as she pointed at Alice, who had a blank stare.
Ross frowned slightly, but continued forward nonchalantly: "Nick Fury, keep an eye on your men."
Gwen Stacy tried to block the way again, but Peter Parker stepped forward to stand in front of Ross.
"Come back," Nick Fury said. "Whatever happened, calm down first. We'll discuss it later."
"By the time we figured it out, it was too late! Alice has inside information about Umbrella Technology. If we don't stop Umbrella, they'll destroy the world," Gwen Stacy said in a deep voice.
Peter Parker nodded: "Me too."
"Is that so?" Admiral Ross raised his voice.
"Hey," James Roddy, Tony Stark's military friend, squeezed in.
"Everyone, calm down!"
Taking this opportunity, General Ross signaled for the helicopter to start.
"Damn it," Gwen Stacy cursed.
Roddy breathed a sigh of relief: "Tony, it won't do you any good to fall out with the military."
Nick Fury walked over, looked at Gwen and Peter Parker, and asked questioningly, "Who are you?"
"They're my pajama babies." Tony Stark walked up to the two of them, put his arm around their shoulders, and said, "Ask me if you have any questions."
"I mean no harm, Tony. Don't act like a mother hen protecting her chicks," Nick Fury said helplessly. "I'm Nick Fury, the director of S.H.I.E.L.D."
"We don't know him." Peter Parker and Gwen shook their heads together.
Peter Parker wondered, "S.H.I.E.L.D. sounds like a mysterious intelligence organization. Could it be that they also know about Umbrella Technology?"
"My question is, why do you believe that Umbrella Technology will destroy the world?"
"Alice said it."
"In other words, you have no evidence at all," Nick Fury shook his head. "Without evidence, there's no point in saying anything more."
"But."
Nick Fury didn't reply, but looked at Tony Stark and said, "Tonight's commotion is too big; it'll probably be on the news tomorrow. I'll try to cover it up for you, but I'll need you to hold a press conference."
Tony Stark waved his hand dismissively.
Now Nick Fury has also left.
"Tony," Roddy said with concern.
"Let me and my pajamas be alone for a while," Tony Stark said, dismissing the reluctant Rhodes. "So, you didn't come here just to ask me for a favor, did you?"
The two men exchanged a glance, and Peter Parker spoke up: "Actually, we wanted to ask you for a favor."
"What kind of help?"
"Alice escaped from the underground laboratory of the Osborne Tower. She lost most of her memory, but she remembers that Umbrella Technology conducted many inhumane experiments in the underground laboratory. If we can infiltrate the underground laboratory, we can obtain evidence of Umbrella Technology's crimes."
"Cute pajama baby," Tony Stark laughed.
He meant to say, "Do you know what kind of scum Arikan accepted through Project Paperclip after World War II?"
But that didn't shatter their illusions.
Although the hoods obscured their faces, Tony Stark was able to deduce from their voices and builds that they were likely students from college freshmen to high school seniors.
"Even if I could help you successfully infiltrate, they would probably have moved the testing site by then," Tony Stark chuckled. "The evidence you want has probably either been moved or destroyed."
"Isn't there any other way to break through?" Peter Parker thought to himself in frustration. Wesker was just too strong. Even if the three of them ganged up on him to try to snatch Alice from the military and Wesker, it would be very difficult.
Don't even mention that Alice has already been controlled by Umbrella Technology.
"Wait, come and see," Gwen Stacy suddenly said.
The two immediately looked at the ground Gwen Stacy was pointing to; Obadiah's body had already been carried away.
Only a pool of blood remained on the ground.
But next to the blood, there was a line of text written.
It was probably left behind by Alice during her last moments of lucidity.
"Raccoon City".
"It looks like a place name," Peter Parker stroked his chin, "but I've never heard of this place before. Is it a city in one of the states near New York?"
"I know this place," Stark had already used Jarvis to find information about Umbrella Technology online.
Most of this information comes from the Pentagon's military database, which is easier for Stark than getting a cover girl.
"Raccoon City is the headquarters of Umbrella Corporation. It's a city they built themselves. Admiral Ross visited it just a few days ago."
"Where does Alice want us to go?" Gwen Stacy asked. "Could it be that the real testing ground is there?"
"But if it's headquarters, doesn't that mean the security there will be even tighter than the underground labs in the Osborn Tower?" Peter Parker sighed. "How are we supposed to sneak in?"
Peter Parker immediately imagined himself flying over Raccoon City, then being surrounded by drones that suddenly appeared, begging for mercy, and finally being riddled with holes by the drones like a block of cheese.
He immediately shivered.
"I might have a way," Stark nodded. "Consider it a small favor. Wesker seems quite interested in me. I'll try to contact him and suggest a visit to Raccoon City, and bring you two along as well."
"It sounds feasible."
"But before that, we need to deal with some other problems."
"What?"
"Change into a nicer outfit."
