Chapter 51 Angers' Appearance
"We're almost at Raccoon City. I didn't expect it to be so easy to get in," Peter Parker said to Gwen Stacy, who was driving, from the passenger seat.
Gwen, focused on driving, said, "Who would have thought Raccoon City would suddenly open to the public?"
Peter Parker stroked his chin and joked, "Do you think it's possible that Raccoon City suddenly opened to the public for experiments?"
Gwen asked suspiciously, "What experiment?"
"Like some kind of biological virus, a zombie apocalypse, or something like that."
Gwen laughed out loud: "Have you been watching too many horror movies?"
Peter Parker shrugged.
Suddenly, the car jolted violently, and the spider-sense on both of them immediately kicked in. Fortunately, the car came to a steady stop, but white smoke was already billowing from the engine.
"Looks like our spider-sense can't be used for car repairs," Peter Parker grumbled, glancing at the map. "It's still over 30 miles to Raccoon City."
Gwen Stacy said helplessly, "If we wait for the tow truck, it'll probably be tomorrow. I'll call my dad first, and then we can hitchhike."
"But speaking of which," Peter Parker scratched his head, exclaiming helplessly, "Uncle Ben takes very good care of this car, how could it suddenly break down?"
Unnoticed by the two, the Shadow Eaters let out a series of giggles in the shadows before slowly disappearing into the darkness.
Peter Parker said helplessly, "Should we tell Mr. Stark that it's not easy to hitch a ride these days?"
A lonely highway, flanked by dense forests, would be perfect as a filming location for some road-hopping action movies.
"Let's try our luck," Gwen Stacy said, raising an eyebrow. "Aren't you worried your uncle will yell at you if the car breaks down?"
Peter Parker raised an eyebrow and said, "I'm not worried about that at all. I got a job with Mr. Stark and I'm saving up to buy Uncle Ben a nice car."
The night was as dark as ink, and the sun gradually sank into the forest. Just as the two were about to walk to Raccoon City, a deep roar of an engine suddenly came from the forest, and a black Maserati GT cut through the horizon.
Peter Parker's eyes widened. "That's a cool car! Do you think Mr. Stark has one like that in his garage?"
"Don't just stand there, wave with me!" Gwen stood on tiptoe and waved her hands.
The black Maserati GT came to a smooth stop in front of the two of them.
"Hello." Gwen and Peter Parker leaned closer to the car window.
To their surprise, the driver was an elderly man with white hair and beard.
The old man was wearing a black tailored suit, his white hair was neatly combed, and a bright red rose was tucked into his lap.
Time has left its mark on his face, but his features remain strong, and his silver-gray eyes gleam with a sharp light, giving him an aura as majestic as a lion.
Peter Parker frowned, thinking to himself: I have a feeling I'm seeing what Mr. Tony Stark will look like when he's old.
No, Mr. Tony Stark is proficient in all sorts of vices, he won't live that long.
"Are you looking for a ride?" Hilbert Jean Angers asked, his voice languid and confident, one hand on the steering wheel.
This composure is the result of the sedimentation that comes from the passage of time.
Gwen Stacy said apologetically, "Thank you for stopping. Our car broke down. Could you take us to a repair shop? Or could you help us contact a nearby tow truck? We can wait for assistance."
"Making a young girl wait is extremely ungentlemanly," Angers said with a smile. "Get in the car; Raccoon City is the only place we can go from around here."
Upon hearing this, Peter Parker's eyes lit up: "Sir, are you also going to Raccoon City?"
Angers nodded. "Yeah, I'm going to Raccoon City to have a heart-to-heart talk with my two good-for-nothing students. What about you guys, what are you going to Raccoon City for?"
Peter Parker said, "Raccoon City is open to the public, and we'd like to go in and have a look."
"Since it's on my way, let's get in." Angers smiled and opened the car door. Peter Parker sat in the passenger seat, observing the car's features with great interest.
Gwen, sitting in the back, asked with some confusion, "I'm Gwen Stacy, and this is Peter Parker. How should we address you?"
The old man gripped the steering wheel with one hand and casually opened a cigar with the other: "Hilbert Jean Angers, you can just call me Principal Angers."
Upon hearing that Angers was the principal, Gwen Stacy and Peter Parker, who were still in high school, immediately tensed up.
Peter Parker scratched his head and asked, "Which school are you the principal of?"
"Fasten your seatbelts, young man."
The car suddenly accelerated, the tachometer needle soaring. Gwen Stacy and Peter Parker were slammed into their seats by the inertia.
"Yes, that's why I said I was looking for two good-for-nothing students." Angers' voice came through the wind noise, his voice steady and his movements unhurried, as if he were attending an afternoon party.
Peter Parker gripped the seat with both hands: "Principal Angers, we're not in such a hurry. You can drive slower."
Angers chuckled lightly: "Don't worry, although I don't have a driver's license, that doesn't stop me from enjoying the thrill of speed."
Gwen Stacy's eyes widened immediately: "Principal Angers, what did you say?"
A heavy truck suddenly came hurtling towards us. On such a narrow country road, the safe distance between the two vehicles was less than a meter. Given the speedometer reading 140 km/h, a normal person would have to wait a moment longer to see that truck…
Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy's spider-sense went off like a fire alarm.
"Watch out!" the two shouted in unison. However, Angers did not slow down at all, leisurely exhaling a smoke ring, and his other hand was not even on the steering wheel. The car shook slightly and narrowly missed the side of the heavy truck.
Angers turned his head to look at Peter Parker, who was curled up in a ball in the passenger seat, and laughed, "Exciting, isn't it?"
Peter Parker clutched his chest: "Principal Angers, I think walking is good for your health. Look, give us two young people a chance to get some exercise. Let us get off the bus and walk over."
Gwen Stacy nodded vigorously in agreement, saying, "I think Peter Parker makes a lot of sense."
"We'll be there soon," Angers said with a smile. "Don't you want to ask me some questions about Raccoon City before we arrive?"
Upon hearing this, Gwen Stacy and Peter Parker exchanged a glance and immediately abandoned their idea of getting out of the car.
"Excuse me, are you an employee of Umbrella Technology?" Gwen Stacy asked tentatively.
Angers shook his head: "I am not an employee of Umbrella Technology, nor a shareholder or board member, but the founder of Umbrella Technology is my student."
Angers turned his head and smiled, "I'm going to Raccoon City now to have a talk with them. Tell me, as a strict teacher, how should I discipline my disobedient students who have gone astray?"
