Chapter 80 Eye Contact Before the Glass
Chapter 80 Eye Contact Before the Glass
The auditions continued, and aside from the older brother's role, all the other roles were insignificant. ββ 6βΎΛ’πΗπ©.αππ¦ β β
"I think this guy is pretty good; he could be a candidate for the older brother role." Jerry, sitting at the table, was fairly satisfied with the interviewee.
Chen An nodded: "Since you're the producer, I'll listen to you, but let's see how it goes, there's still time."
I successfully interviewed quite a few people on the first day, but today I didn't find anyone who satisfied both of them.
"Knock knock~"
Just as the two were chatting, there was another knock on the door, and they stopped talking.
The person who pushed open the door was a young and inexperienced man, who looked miserable despite his expressionless face.
Upon seeing the newcomer's face, Chen An unconsciously raised an eyebrow. This was not Mysterio Jake Gyllenhaal, but a younger version, without that iconic beard.
He looks a bit young.
However, it seems that the other party has acted in quite a few of his father's movies. Although Chen An has never seen any of them, he is still someone in the industry.
"Hello, interviewers. My name is Jake Gyllenhaal, and I'm from Los Angeles. I'd like to interview for a role." Jake introduced himself somewhat nervously in front of the two interviewers.
This was the first time he had auditioned for a role on his own; previously, he had only been able to get roles with his father's help.
"Hey Jack, shut your mouth and make a slightly depressed and withdrawn expression," Chen An said first, letting the other person perform.
Upon hearing Chen An's description, Jake Gyllenhaal immediately shut his mouth without saying a word, his brows furrowed, and his somewhat reserved demeanor perfectly matched the situation Chen An needed.
Chen An was especially pleased with that inherently miserable aura.
"Jerry, what do you think?" Chen An turned to Jerry beside him and asked.
He's quite satisfied with Jake Gyllenhaal; it's up to Jerry to decide.
Jerry nodded. "He's definitely more suitable than the previous ones. Let's leave it at that." He seemed quite satisfied as well.
The older brother is mostly mute in the show, even more withdrawn than his depressed uncle, and Jake Gyllenhaal's portrayal is quite fitting.
"Jack, how old are you? Do you need to notify your parents to sign the contract?" Jerry asked directly.
Jake Gyllenhaal nodded. "I think I need to inform my parents."
"Alright, I'll inform your family directly then. I think you need to discuss it with your family before you go back today." Jerry had expected this; the other person looked like a minor.
Jake Gyllenhaal excitedly agreed, "So, I'm accepted?"
"That's right, Jack, you've been accepted. This role is yours, but of course, your family has to agree first."
Jerry smiled and explained to the young man.
"No problem, I think they'll definitely agree," Jake Gyllenhaal exclaimed excitedly.
Chen An interrupted his excitement: "Jack, leave your contact information. Go home quickly and discuss it with your family first. We'll contact you later."
Chen An was getting ready to slip away, interrupting the other person's excitement, and wanted to go home early.
Jake Gyllenhaal, whose excitement was interrupted by Chen An, calmed down and realized that he needed to go home as soon as possible to tell his family about this and make sure they agreed.
"Yes, this is my resume. I'll be leaving now." Jake Gyllenhaal handed the resume to the two men on the table, then quickly turned and left, in a flurry of activity.
Chen An glanced at the resume; it was similar to Naomi's. He handed it to Jerry to handle.
"Let's go, Jerry. I don't think the interview needs to continue." Chen An stood up, stretched, and relieved his fatigue.
Jerry sorted through the pile of resumes, took out his phone to notify someone outside, and then stood up: "Let's go, Chen, let's go get something to eat together."
Chen An nodded, took out a cigarette, lit it, and then handed one to the other person.
They'd been holding back for a long time. Both were heavy smokers, but the other preferred cigars, while Chen An didn't like them.
After finishing their cigarettes, they stubbed them out and threw them in the trash can. The two then left the building, got into their car, and drove away.
"Hey Chen, have you been in touch with Naomi from yesterday?" Jerry asked curiously with a mischievous grin from the driver's seat.
Chen An rubbed his head, a cigarette still dangling from his mouth: "I didn't have time. I fell asleep as soon as I got back, and then I came here early this morning to audition actors with you."
"That's a real shame. You wasted a whole day, otherwise you might not have had to sleep alone tonight."
"Sleeping alone isn't so bad, at least it's not as tiring."
"Even the lighter my grandfather used to stop bullets in North Korea isn't as stubborn as your words."
Jerry, who was driving, didn't believe Chen An's stubbornness at all.
The two chatted as they drove to a restaurant and had their dinner.
As night fell, Chen An had already been sent back to his hotel.
I walked into the room alone and took a shower to wash away the day's fatigue.
I picked up a bottle of wine from the wine cabinet, took some ice from the refrigerator, poured the wine over it, and sat by the window in my bathrobe, looking at the night view.
"This is fucking tiring," Chen An said, lying back in his chair.
They sit there all day, conducting one interview after another. Some of their performances are so terrible they're almost unbearable.
Unlike in the country, where you can choose directly yourself.
Despite the huge difference, Chen An was able to take it in stride and didn't mind.
It's just going through the same old path; I've already seen the scenery along the way, and things are much better now.
Not long after, Jerry came over, signed the contract with Chen An, and also notified Chen An in advance to find a lawyer.
Although the two have a good relationship, they still need to handle business matters officially.
With the help of a lawyer, Chen An signed the contract.
Before leaving, Jerry handed Chen An a contract. Chen An took it with a blank expression, but Jerry left with a smile, saying it was a gift for Chen An.
"A gift? What gift?" Chen An picked up the contract in his hand, somewhat at a loss.
Upon opening it, I found it was Naomi's contract; the meaning was quite clear.
Chen An held the item in his hand, unsure of what to say, but he accepted it anyway, knowing the other person was too busy to help.
Since the two are business partners, it's only natural for them to help each other out.
After the lawyer left, Chen An went back to the hotel, took a shower, and changed his clothes.
In 1993, Naomi arrived in Hollywood alone with her luggage, working part-time while contacting interviews. Despite being somewhat famous in Europe, Naomi found it difficult to make a living in the movie kingdom known as Hollywood.
He was struggling to make ends meet, lacked medical insurance, and even struggled to afford food and clothing. His situation was truly dire, and he considered quitting the acting industry several times.
It wasn't until he encountered the groundbreaking masterpiece "Mulholland Drive" that he was able to restart his acting career.
She is still struggling with the difficulties before achieving success.
When Chen An contacted her, she was working at a restaurant, dressed in ordinary clothes with a beige apron around her neck.
I was tidying up a dining table, gathering the plates and wiping the table as I went.
Her golden hair was roughly tied up, and her beautiful face showed signs of fatigue, mixed with beads of sweat, as she concentrated intently on wiping the table.
Naomi only looked up when Chen An, who was standing at the window, gently tapped on the glass.
Seeing Chen An standing in front of the transparent glass window, he waved and greeted her with a smile.
His amber eyes opened, a hint of surprise in them, and a smile suddenly appeared on his tired face: "Director?!"
The sound was quite loud; even Chen An, who was behind the glass, heard it and nodded in response.
But just then, Naomi suddenly looked at her outfit, wiped her forehead with her wrist, turned around, dropped the plates on the table, and ran towards the kitchen.
Chen An was left standing in front of the glass window, somewhat bewildered.
You're not just leaving like this?
Is this guy really that scary?
However, I still went into the restaurant and found an empty table to sit down.
A waiter immediately came to serve him. Chen An ordered two hot drinks and, in addition to paying the bill, reluctantly gave a ten-dollar tip.
He felt that this kind of thing was no different from feudal remnants.
Writing about the domestic entertainment industry always feels awkward, but writing about foreign entertainment is so much more enjoyable and flows smoothly.
