Tomb raiders: You stole my little Qilin?

Chapter 56 Following My Brother

The ward quieted down at night.

Without Wu Xie, Wu Wei leaned against the headboard alone, idly changing TV programs.

My phone vibrated on the bedside table; it was Hei Xiazi's number.

Before I could even speak, Black Bear's rapid-fire voice came from the other end:

"Wu Wei, didn't you say you'd be back in a few days? It's been almost ten days, where are you? Even if Switzerland is far away, you wouldn't ride a donkey back, would you?"

Wu Wei's lips curved into a smile, but before he could answer, another voice interrupted from the side.

Zhang Qiling was also there, presumably on speakerphone, his voice coming from a slightly distance: "What happened?"

Wu Wei didn't intend to hide it or go into details, so he casually mentioned, "There was a slight accident, and I suffered a minor injury."

"Where are you hurt?" This time it was Zhang Qiling who asked, with a rare hint of worry.

"It's just my shoulder and ribs, I'll be fine after a few days of rest," Wu Wei said, trying to keep his tone light.

Hei Xiazi's nonchalant tone softened somewhat: "What happened? What did you run into?"

"We'll talk about it later; it's not clear enough over the phone."

Wu Wei changed the subject, his voice tinged with genuine nostalgia, "Xia, I really miss your cooking."

Black Bear coughed twice on the other end of the line: "Now that you're out there, you finally realize how good I am, don't you?"

Wu Wei said in an exaggerated tone, "Even without going out, I know that the blind man is extremely, extremely, extremely good."

Black Bear muttered under his breath, "That little rascal, always like this."

She unknowingly attracted his heart, and after getting drunk, she became intimate with him.

Before he could even figure out how to deal with it, he hadn't been back for so long and was worried about him.

Wu protested, "I didn't! I was just telling the truth! Right, sir?"

"Is that right?" Zhang Qiling said uncertainly.

"Tsk, you mute? What do you mean, 'what are you saying'? Hasn't Blackie been good enough to you?"

Wu Wei couldn't help but laugh as he listened to their conversation.

The smile aggravated the injury to his ribs, causing him to wince in pain, and he quickly stopped laughing.

Wu Wei breathed a sigh of relief. "I'm almost done here. I should be able to go back in the next few days."

"Take good care of your injury." Zhang Qiling's voice was lowered, carrying a hint of instruction.

"Come back soon." Black Bear also looked forward to it, and then added, "I'll make you what you want to eat when I get back."

"Understood," Wu Wei replied.

After hanging up the phone, the ward fell silent again.

Wu Wei put his phone back on the bedside table and leaned against the pillow, staring at the ceiling for a while.

In the courtyard in Beijing, there was a pomegranate tree. Zhang Qiling would knock on his door every day, while Hei Xiazi would lean against the door and window, gloating.

Wu Wei suddenly missed them.

The next day, Wu Erbai came to see Wu Wei, and Wu Xie followed behind.

Because he was arrested on the spot for helping Wu Wei smuggle braised food, he was not only deprived of the right to share a hospital room with Wu Wei.

Even when visiting Wu Wei, one must accompany Wu Erbai and be subject to full supervision.

As he entered, he secretly gave Wu Wei a wary look, and Wu Wei returned his gaze with a "thank you for your hard work" emoji.

The two quickly completed this silent exchange right under Wu Erbai's nose.

Wu Wei turned to look at Wu Erbai: "Dad, when are we going back to Beijing?"

Wu Erbai sat down on a chair by the bed and shook his head: "Wait a little longer. You can't withstand a long journey in your current condition."

"It's not like I'm walking back; taking the bus doesn't take much effort."

Wu Wei used his uninjured hand to support himself on the edge of the bed and sat up a little straighter.

"My ribs don't hurt much anymore, and the shoulder fracture is properly aligned and fixed. As long as I don't move around too much, I'll be fine."

"No." Wu Erbai frowned.

"If this kind of injury isn't healed properly, it can easily lead to long-term health problems. You're still so young; you have a long life ahead of you."

"Dad," Wu Wei softened his tone, changing his perspective.

"There are so many things waiting for you to handle in Beijing. If you stay here, those things will just keep getting delayed."

I know you're worried about me, but you can't just leave me here in Shaanxi until my bones are fully healed before you set off, can you?

Wu Wei paused, looking at Wu Erbai's expression.

"Go back and do your thing. I'll stay home and recover peacefully. With Uncle Erjing here and a family doctor available whenever I need him, isn't that better than being in this unfamiliar hospital?"

Wu Erbai remained silent.

He didn't want Wu Wei to be discharged from the hospital anytime soon, but he had a lot of business and affairs to attend to in Beijing, and he was spending more and more time on the phone every day.

Wu Wei knew he was wavering, and continued:

"Besides, recuperating at home puts me in a better mood. And when you're in a good mood, your injuries heal faster."

Wu Erbai remained silent for a moment, then gently pressed on Wu Wei's uninjured shoulder before finally agreeing.

"Alright, enough with the excuses. We're leaving tomorrow."

"Dad is wise," Wu Wei immediately flattered.

Wu Erbai then turned to Wu Xie: "Xiao Xie, are you coming to Beijing with us, or will someone send you back to Hangzhou?"

Wu Xie answered almost without hesitation: "I'll go with my brother."

Wu Wei turned his head to look at him, raising an eyebrow with a smile.

Wu Xie happened to turn around and look at him. The two of them, separated by Wu Erbai, silently curved the corners of their mouths.

The group set off from the hospital in Xi'an early the next morning.

Erjing specially prepared the most spacious car for his young master.

The gaps were covered according to the seat height, and several layers of soft cushions and pillows were added, so Wu Wei could lie down and go back.

Wu Wei was helped inside, leaned back against the cushions, and sighed comfortably.

Erjing bent down again to adjust the position of the pillow, checked it over to make sure there wouldn't be any bumps or knocks, and then straightened up.

Wu Wei's arm, which was in a cast, couldn't move, so he used his other hand to pull on Erjing's sleeve, and just like when he was a child, he smiled and said, "Uncle Erjing still loves me the most."

Erjing smiled gently: "Tell me if you feel unwell."

The convoy sped along and arrived in Beijing that evening.

Wu Wei and Wu Xie were taken back to Wu Erbai's residence, where servants had already prepared two adjacent rooms.

After resting at home for one night, Wu Erbai was still worried and wanted them to go back to the hospital.

Wu Wei firmly objected: "I don't want to, I won't go! I'm all better now, Dad, you should let Xiao Xie go, he's not better yet."

"Second Uncle, I'm all better now." Wu Xie was used to Wu Wei shifting the blame.

Wu Wei is only a reliable older brother when there is danger.

Wu Erbai couldn't persuade them otherwise, so he called the family doctor over.

After a thorough examination, including reviewing the medical records from the Xi'an hospital and the X-rays taken before discharge, the doctor reassured Wu Erbai:

"Don't worry, Second Master. Young Master's internal injuries have healed very well, and the fracture has been properly fixed. Next, he just needs to rest and have regular check-ups. There's absolutely no problem with him recuperating at home."

As for Young Master San, his contusions are almost healed, and his concussion wasn't serious. He should rest more and avoid strenuous exercise.

Wu Erbai was finally relieved. After seeing the doctor off, he returned to the living room and looked at his two sons.

"You all better behave yourselves and don't cause any trouble."

Wu Wei and Wu Xie nodded in unison, their movements perfectly synchronized.
