Tomb raiders: You stole my little Qilin?
Chapter 69 Roadmap
The rubber boat was drifting too fast, and the rock quickly passed by. Wu Wei only had time to glance at it.
Two rubber boats docked at the finish line one after another, and four people climbed aboard, soaking wet.
Wu Xie walked towards Wu Wei while wringing out his clothes:
"Brother, did you see that rock just now?"
Wu Wei swept his hair back, revealing his facial features: "I couldn't see clearly."
"What stone?" Fatty Wang was so busy fighting the water that he hadn't noticed anything.
Wu Xie was also a little unsure, "Those symbols on it seem familiar, like I've seen them somewhere before."
Wu Wei thought for a moment and proposed a plan: "Let's drift again, this time at a slower speed, and take a closer look."
The four of them bought tickets again.
When the rubber boat drifted back to the boulder, Wu Wei stared intently, carefully examining it.
The carvings on the stone have become somewhat blurred after years of water erosion, but the structure and direction of the strokes are still very familiar.
"It looks familiar," Wu Xie said.
"A parchment scroll," Wu Wei replied.
The four people exchanged glances.
Fatty Wang scratched his head: "So, the tomb really is here?"
"Barring any unforeseen circumstances."
Wu Wei looked down at his clothes, which were soaked through by the river. "These clothes weren't wet for nothing."
Once ashore, the four of them walked upstream along the river, trying to find more clues.
There were many people in the scenic area, so they couldn't openly bang on things with wooden sticks; they could only observe with their eyes.
After walking for nearly two hours and looking at the rock walls on both sides of the river, we did not find a second stone with inscriptions.
"This isn't right." Fatty Wang's legs were sore from walking, so he plopped down on the grass on the hillside.
"Could that stone have been casually carved by an ancient person?"
Xie Yuchen pondered, "Probably not, let's search again."
Several people spread out along the hillside to search.
Another hour or so passed, and the sun had climbed to its zenith, drying the four people's soaked clothes.
They searched every possible place in the surrounding area, but still found nothing.
"I can't go on, I need to rest for a bit." Wu Xie said, panting as he supported himself on his knees.
The four people sat down on a shady hillside.
The air was filled with the scent of grass and earth, and the noise from the distant scenic area was blocked by the mountains, with only a few faint broadcasts coming through.
Wu Wei pulled the parchment scroll out of his backpack, his brows furrowing deeper and deeper: "How come there isn't a single clue?"
"The symbols on the stone are clearly from the same system as those on the parchment scrolls; it's impossible for there to be just one isolated mark."
"Don't rush." Xie Yuchen sat down next to him and handed him a bottle of water.
"There are definitely clues, we just haven't found them yet."
Wang Pangzi lay on his back on the grass, panting heavily: "I can't do it anymore. Finding a way is the worst thing for me, and I can't do this kind of delicate work."
Wu Xie also took a few sips of water from the bottle and lay down on the grass.
Wu Wei held the parchment scroll, frowning as he pondered.
After a while, he rubbed his head and lay back on a flat, large rock.
He held the parchment above his head, looking at it repeatedly against the sky, trying to find more clues.
Sunlight streamed down from above, and Wu Wei unconsciously stroked the parchment scroll with his fingers.
Suddenly, he stopped moving.
The light was not even as it passed through the parchment.
In some places, the leather is so thick that sunlight can't penetrate it, leaving only a dark shadow; in other places, it's so thin that light passes through, revealing a warm, translucent yellow color.
What made Wu Wei's heart race was that those locations with varying thicknesses didn't seem to be random.
Wu Wei suddenly sat up, the movement startling Wu Xie who was standing next to him.
"What's wrong?"
"Sunlight!"
Wu Wei exclaimed with delight, "Look, this parchment scroll looks different in the sunlight!"
Several people gathered around.
Wu Wei held the sheepskin scroll up in the sunlight, and the interplay of light and shadow created a complete route.
At each bend of the line, there is a small, blurry marker that looks like something that can fly.
"Roadmap." Xie Yuchen's voice broke the silence.
Wu Xie leaned closer, their heads touching: "Where's the starting point? Where's the starting point?"
Wu Wei's finger moved down the path of light and shadow, and at the very bottom, sunlight shone through to reveal a familiar symbol.
It's the symbol on that huge rock in the riverbed!
"It's that stone!" Wu Wei exclaimed excitedly.
Fatty Wang got up from the grass and sidled up to Wu Wei, saying, "Wow, the ancients were really good at hiding things. If you hadn't been lying down facing the sun, we wouldn't have found it even next year."
Xie Yuchen stood up first, patting the grass clippings off his clothes: "I've been working hard all morning, let's look for more after lunch."
The four of them found a small restaurant in the scenic area, quickly finished their lunch, and then followed the river back to the boulder with the symbol engraved on it.
Wu Wei held the parchment scroll up to the sunlight, allowing the path of light and shadow to reappear, and Wu Xie took out his phone and took a picture.
The four of them huddled together and studied the route for a while. After confirming the general direction, they followed the route signs and headed up the hillside.
At first, things went relatively smoothly.
Starting from the boulder, they walked upstream along the river for about two hundred meters. The light and shadow path on the parchment pointed to a fork in the road, and the four of them turned into a path half-hidden by bushes.
There is a sign ahead that reads "No Entry for Tourists".
The group exchanged glances, tacitly pretending not to see it, and walked around the warning sign.
The path narrowed as you walked, the rock walls on both sides gradually closed in, and the pebbles under your feet were covered with moss, making them slippery to walk on.
Wang Pangzi was walking at the back when he almost slipped into the shallow ditch next to him, but Wu Xie caught him in time to prevent him from falling hard.
"This road is too difficult to walk on." The fat man patted his chest with lingering fear as he steadied himself against the rock wall.
"It should be difficult to walk," Wu Wei said, walking in front and pushing aside the dead branches blocking the way. "If it were easy, we would have been discovered long ago."
After walking along the path for nearly forty minutes, the first marker appeared on the rock face ahead.
A flattened stone, with a small, palm-sized bird lightly carved into it, is hidden in a recess in the rock face and is almost invisible unless you look closely.
Wu Xie was the first to find it, and he excitedly pointed to the pattern and called everyone over.
After several people gathered around to confirm, their confidence increased, and they continued to venture deeper into the area.
However, the third marker took them more than an hour to find.
According to the actual distance between the starting point and the first mark on the parchment scroll, and the proportion of the light and shadow path, the distance between the first mark and the second mark is not far.
The four of them searched the area thoroughly, turning it upside down, looking at the rock walls, the ground, the tree trunks, and even the cliff above them, but found nothing.
