Ruan Tang paused, turned to look at her, and said, "I'm not protecting anyone. The deacon has already punished the resistance group, and we don't need you to act as 'righteous men' anymore."

"If you want to get ahead, go find Lin Xiaokui and Fang Zhaoyang directly. Why are you making things difficult for others?"

After saying that, without waiting for the girl's reaction, he helped Su Nian continue walking forward.

Stepping out of the crowd, Su Nian whispered, "Thank you."

Ruan Tang did not respond.

Su Nian lowered her head, her knees still aching, and she walked with a limp. "But if you help me like this, won't the deacon team...?"

"You don't need to worry about that," Ruan Tang interrupted her.

Su Nian stopped talking and leaned her small body against Ruan Tang.

Ruan Tang tightened her grip on her arm.

This girl is too weak, both frail and timid, yet she insists on being at the forefront, following Lin Xiaokui.

Lin Xiao Kui has the aura of a leading lady, but Su Nian does not.

That's why he ended up with a tragic fate.

The school hospital arrived quickly.

Ruan Tang handed Su Nian over to the school doctor and then turned and left.

Su Nian sat in the chair in the consultation room, watching Ruan Tang's back from afar.

It was exactly the same as the first time, when the righteous Lin Xiao Kui saved her.

Ruan Tang and Xiao Kui are good friends; perhaps Ruan Tang is an undercover agent for the Deacon Group.

This was Su Nian's simplest thought.

She hoped they were on the same side.

-

As Ruan Tang left the school hospital, she saw Cheng Jin standing by the flower bed not far away, waiting for her.

"You'll get into trouble if you do that," Cheng Jin said.

Ruan Tang walked to his side, "We've had enough trouble already, one more won't make a difference."

Cheng Jin glanced at her, said nothing more, and turned to walk towards the student council building.

Ruan Tang followed, and the two walked side by side on the tree-lined path, neither of them speaking.

As they approached the student council building, Cheng Jin suddenly spoke up, "You should know that you can help Su Nian once, but you can't help her a second time."

"I know."

"Then why did you help?"

Ruan Tang thought for a moment and said, "If I don't help her today, I'll have nightmares tonight and I'll regret it."

Cheng Jin paused for a moment and glanced at her sideways.

Her face was fair and delicate, and she looked soft and innocent.

But just now on the playground, the way she stood in front of that group of girls was completely different.

He thought for a moment, then looked away. "Someone like you shouldn't be in the Deacon Group."

"What kind of person?"

"A person who still has principles."

Ruan Tang smiled and said, "The concept of a bottom line is worthless, and I don't actually want one."

-

Ruan Tang pushed open the door to the deacon's office.

There were four people inside.

Si Lin was sitting behind his desk when he looked up and saw her come in. He threw his lighter on the desk.

The sound of metal striking wood was soft, but it instantly tensed the entire office.

Wen Yan spoke first, smiling at her, "I heard you stood up for the resistance group on the playground just now?"

Ruan Tang stood at the door, not moving.

Delicate and tender, standing there like a small lily of the valley swaying in the wind.

"I wasn't trying to stand up for her. Su Nian fell to the ground, and I just helped her to the school clinic."

Pei Heng sat up from the sofa, crossed his legs, and looked at her. "Girl, you're a member of the Deacon now. How can you help a member of the Resistance in front of so many people? What will the other students think?"

Ruan Tang pursed her lips but did not reply.

Si Lin stood up, walked around the desk, and walked towards her.

He was so tall that he cast her entirely in shadow when he walked up to her.

Ruan Tang had no choice but to look up at him, meeting his dark, deep eyes.

Si Lin raised his hand and grabbed her neck. The force wasn't great, but it was enough to immobilize her.

He pushed her back a step, her back pressed against the door, his fingers tightening, forcing her to tilt her face up.

"You're the secretary of the deacon council, yet you openly help the resistance." Si Lin looked down at her. "Whose face are you slapping? Are you dissatisfied with me?"

Ruan Tang grabbed his wrists with both hands, trying to pry his fingers open, but his hands were as firm as iron clamps.

Her face began to flush, her eyes filled with tears, her lips parted slightly, and she was struggling to breathe.

"Lin Xiaokui and the others were wrong." Her voice was weak and forced out from her choked throat.

"But Su Nian and the others are innocent."

"Innocent?" Si Lin scoffed. "When she was with the resistance group at the library rally, didn't she feel innocent?"

"She just followed Lin Xiaokui, she didn't do anything." Ruan Tang's eyelashes trembled twice, a tear welled up from the corner of her eye, rolled down her cheek, and dripped onto the hand that Si Lin was using to choke her neck.

"You're speaking up for her? You want to join the resistance too?" Si Lin stared at her.

"no."

"Then why did you help her?"

"I just couldn't bear it." Ruan Tang's voice grew softer and softer as he choked her and pressed her against the door, like a butterfly with its wings pinched.

A hand reached out from the side and grasped Si Lin's wrist.

Wen Yan appeared beside her at some point. "That's enough. She's weak. If you keep choking her, she'll die."

Si Lin glanced at him sideways, but Wen Yan didn't let go.

The two looked at each other, and Si Lin released his hand first.

Ruan Tang slipped from his fingers, squatted on the ground, and coughed violently, clutching her neck.

Her throat hurt as if it had been burned.

Wen Yan squatted down and reached out to brush away the stray hairs that had fallen across her neck.

Several red finger marks were imprinted on the girl's neck, standing out starkly against her fair skin.

He frowned and removed Ruan Tang's hand from her neck. "Don't touch it, you'll hurt yourself again."

Pei Heng leaned over from the sofa and whistled, "Si Lin, you really hit hard."

Wen Yan reached out and pulled Ruan Tang up from the ground.

Her legs were still weak when she stood up, and she staggered forward, bumping into Wen Yan's arms.

Wen Yan took the opportunity to put his arm around her shoulder and let her lean against him.

He reached out and patted her back. "Okay, stop crying."

Ruan Tang lowered her head, tears streaming down her face.

She looked up at him.

Her eyes were filled with tears, her eye sockets were red, and water droplets still clung to her eyelashes, making her look pitiful and delicate.

Wen Yan looked into those eyes, reached out and tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear, then gently wiped away her tears with his fingertips across the corner of her moist eye.

He sighed and patted her back. "You should have told me you'd come with me. Si Lin is so reckless; how could a girl like you handle him?"

Ruan Tang didn't say anything, she just stood there and let him wipe away her tears.

Si Lin stood behind the desk, watching the two people.

Wen Yan put his arm around Ruan Tang's shoulder. Ruan Tang leaned against him, still sobbing, her shoulders trembling.

Si Lin's voice was cold, "If you two want to flirt, get out of here and don't get in my office."
