Shenglan has two types of exams: the unified exam and the specialized exam.

The unified examination covers basic subjects, and all grades are selected and ranked uniformly.

The specialized exam, on the other hand, is conducted after the first-year students choose their major. In the second year and above, students need to take a separate exam for their major and undergo a second assessment.

Two days later, the midterm exam results were released.

In the deacon's office, Pei Heng leaned back on the sofa, crossed his legs, and scrolled through the report card on his computer screen.

He suddenly whistled, jumped up from the sofa, and clapped exaggeratedly.

"Wow! Look at this!"

On the screen, the midterm exam results were clearly displayed: First place, Ji Yan, 735 points.

Second place: Ruan Tang, 735 points.

The scores were tied, but Ji Yan's name was ranked first in the list.

Si Lin stood behind Pei Heng, his gaze fixed on that name.

He knew that Ruan Tang had been specially admitted through a transfer program, so her grades must be excellent.

But he didn't expect that she could catch up with Ji Yan.

Ji Yan is a top student who has consistently ranked first in all exams, big and small, since entering university.

Now he's been chased to a tie by a seemingly weak and vulnerable little girl.

Si Lin found it somewhat amusing, yet also felt a sense of pride because it was Ruan Tang.

Pei Heng was still exclaiming, "735, on par with Ji Yan! This little secretary is a real hidden talent!"

"Si Lin, when you chose her, did you know she was also a top student?"

Si Lin ignored him.

Ji Yan sat on the innermost sofa, holding a tablet in his hand, and saw the results.

His usually calm expression held a rare hint of something – appreciation.

Ji Yan pulled up Ruan Tang's test paper, glanced at it, and commented, "All the multiple-choice questions in math were correct, and the solution to the last big question was also very clever."

"Wow, even Ji Yan is praising someone." Pei Heng walked around behind Ji Yan and rested his hands on the back of the sofa.

"You've been a top student for so long, and finally someone equally matched has come along. Don't you feel threatened?"

"Next time, your reputation as a top student might be shaken."

Ji Yan smiled. "You're welcome anytime."

Wen Yan walked over from the window, holding a cup, and glanced at the report card on the screen.

"Ji Yan is a deacon, and Ruan Tang is a secretary. No matter who comes in first place, they're both members of our deacon team."

Outsiders can only watch.

"That's true." Pei Heng leaned back into the sofa and put his long legs on the coffee table.

Just then, there was a knock on the office door.

Ruan Tang pushed open the door while holding the documents and found that all four people were there.

Four pairs of eyes fell on her at the same time.

They weren't malicious, but they weren't particularly friendly either.

It's just that those in positions of power naturally scrutinize those who are unexpected.

She lowered her eyes, walked to the desk, and carefully placed the documents down.

After doing all that, she stood by the table with her hands clasped in front of her, unsure whether she should just leave.

Being stared at by four people at the same time made Ruan Tang a little reserved.

Si Lin's gaze never left her from the moment she entered the room.

Wen Yan stood up and walked to Ruan Tang's side.

He was more than half a head taller than her, and when he looked down at her, he had a slight smile on his face. "Tangtang, do you know how many points you got on your midterm exams?"

Ruan Tang obediently shook her head.

The results haven't been officially announced yet, so she really doesn't know.

Pei Heng tossed his phone aside, shaking his head, "Take a guess."

Ruan Tang shook her head again, "I can't guess."

"Can't you pay a little more attention to things that concern you?" Pei Heng picked up the computer on the coffee table, swiped a couple of times, and showed her the screen.

See for yourself.

The screen displays a ranking list of grades that has not yet been released by the school.

Ji Yan, 735.

Ruan Tang, 735.

Being able to see these things in advance is a privilege of their class.

"Seven hundred and thirty-five, tied with Ji Yan." Pei Heng looked her up and down again.

"I thought you were just pretty, but I didn't expect you to be so smart too."

Wen Yan stood next to Ruan Tang, looked down into her obedient eyes, and chuckled, "Tangtang, you did so well on the exam, what reward do you want?"

Ruan Tang looked away from the screen. "No need."

"I'm going back now; the documents are all put away."

"What's the rush?" Pei Heng called out to her as he slumped on the sofa.

"You've surprised us all, and you, the person involved, are trying to run away? How pointless."

Ruan Tang pursed her lips, unsure of what to say.

Ji Yan looked up from the tablet, glanced at her, and said, "Good idea."

He paused for a moment, then said, "You can't judge a book by its cover."

Ruan Tang blinked, not expecting Ji Yan to say such a thing.

In the past, she was probably just a pretty face in the eyes of the four of them.

Pei Heng jumped up from the sofa and patted Ji Yan on the shoulder. "It's lonely at the top. Now that you've met your companions, how does it feel?"

Ji Yan put the tablet aside and said in a nonchalant tone, "I don't feel anything."

He wasn't really interested in how many points Ruan Tang scored.

Academic achievements are just one insignificant aspect of his many abilities.

However, he did have a greater appreciation for the secretary Si Lin had chosen.

After all, it's rare to see someone catch up to his score.

"That's true, being good at studying isn't anything special for us." Pei Heng leaned back on the sofa.

"But little secretary, you really gave our deacon leader face this time."

"Si Lin picked the best seedlings with just a casual glance. The resistance group must be furious."

Ruan Tang didn't know how to respond, so she quietly lowered her head.

Upon seeing this, Wen Yan's lips curved slightly.

He took half a step forward, getting closer to her, his tone gentle and casual, "Tangtang, you got such good grades, it wouldn't be right not to celebrate."

"How about I treat you to the most expensive restaurant in St. John's, to a meal on the top floor, the night view is also quite nice."

Before Ruan Tang could answer, Si Lin had already walked over.

With one hand in his pocket and the other casually resting on her lower back, he pulled her half a step closer to him.

"That's going too far." He glanced at Wen Yan, his tone indifferent, but his hand on the girl's waist remained, carrying a blatant sense of possessiveness.

Wen Yan's smile remained unchanged. He took a step back and raised his hands in a gesture of surrender. "It's just treating my secretary to a meal. Why are you so nervous?"

"She's busy."

"You're not her, how do you know she's busy?"

"Because she's celebrating with me tonight."

Ruan Tang quietly freed her slender waist from the man's grasp, her ears turning bright red, and she lowered her head, not daring to look at anyone.

Si Lin wasn't annoyed. He grabbed the girl's wrist and walked out.

Pei Heng sat up straight on the sofa, stroked his chin, and watched the two figures disappear into the distance.

The more I looked at it, the more something seemed off.

"Wait a minute." He jumped up from the sofa. "Are those two... having an affair?"

Ji Yan leaned back on the sofa, a rare smile curving his lips. "You're only just realizing it?"

Pei Heng's eyes widened and his mouth opened.

She abruptly turned to look at Wen Yan, "You knew too?"

Wen Yan nodded, "I knew a little earlier than you."

"So I was the last one to find out?" Pei Heng pointed at himself, his voice rising half an octave.

"No, when did this happen? Why didn't anyone tell me? Are we still brothers?"

Wen Yan patted his shoulder, put his arm around him, and walked towards the door. "It's more interesting to figure this out yourself."

Ji Yan picked up the tablet and followed behind, adding casually, "You're usually too noisy, we forgot to tell you."

"What do you mean 'forgot'! How could you forget something like this?" Pei Heng was being led outside by Wen Yan, his arm around his shoulder, still yelling.

"When exactly did it start? Before or after the school anniversary celebration?"
