Zombie Apocalypse: Don't be afraid, I'm not a good person.

Chapter 80 A Horrifying Incident in the Neighborhood

The man's mouth was wide open, and excruciating pain tore at his nerves, rendering him unable to utter a sound. He collapsed to the ground unconscious.

At the gruesome severed ends of the arms and legs, with each violent heartbeat, arterial blood gushed out under pressure.

Blood splattered on the walls, cabinets, and floor, quickly forming a large, glaringly red pool of blood that slowly spread.

The two giant rats were pressing down on the stolen flesh with their rough, powerful forepaws, tearing and swallowing it roughly with their sharp yellow teeth, splattering bits of meat everywhere, completely unconcerned about whether their prey was alive or dead.

Li Yuetong was so horrified by the extremely gruesome scene that she felt a chill run down her spine. Goosebumps and cold sweat instantly covered her body. She covered her mouth tightly to stop herself from screaming.

At that moment, she saw five or six giant rats dart out from the darkness of the living room. Their gray-black bodies moved incredibly fast, and they frantically gnawed at the man's torso. His flesh was being visibly reduced, and soon, pale bones were exposed.

Li Yuetong was startled and her beautiful eyes darted around in a panic, discovering that the incident had happened to far more than just this one household.

In several windows of the building across the street, figures could be seen frantically dodging and running away. In the dark open space of the residential area, groups of giant rats could be seen darting past from time to time.

"Hmm!"

Li Yuetong suddenly tensed up, quickly slammed the curtains shut, and huddled under the window, too afraid to move.

Just now, several giant rats scurried past her window. One of them suddenly stood up, its thick hind legs bracing against the ground, and its scarlet, cold eyes stared intently in her direction, as if it had caught the scent of prey.

Li Yuetong held her breath and scrambled quickly across the floor from the window. The ear-piercing scratching at the door continued from the other side of the stairwell's emergency exit.

Where did all these giant rats come from?

How will Mr. Shen get back later?

She sat on the floor, leaning against the sofa, and hurriedly grabbed her phone. Her fingertips trembled as she tried to send a message to Shenhe, but the loading circle on the screen just kept spinning, and the message was stuck on the sending screen, unable to be sent no matter what she did.

"Cellphone! You disgust me!"

He cursed under his breath, shoved his phone haphazardly into his pocket, and turned to hurriedly put on his shoes.

"Thump...thump thump thump thump...thump..."

A series of rhythmic knocks sounded softly, the pre-arranged knocking signal with Zhang Ran and the others!

Li Yuetong walked quickly to the door, glanced through the peephole to confirm it was them, and then immediately opened the door.

As soon as the door opened, Zhang Ran immediately shielded Li Wanning and squeezed in, his expression tense. Behind him, Tang Dashan nervously turned his head to stare at the iron door of the emergency exit, his face full of vigilance.

The door, originally reinforced with two layers of thick iron sheets, now showed several deep, raised scratches on the door panel from their perspective, its surface warped and deformed, clearly indicating that something was frantically gnawing and scratching at it from the outside.

"Come in quickly, Fatty!"

Zhang Ran turned around and urged him urgently.

"Hey! They're here!"

Tang Dashan quickly slipped inside, slammed the door shut behind him, and then swiftly locked it, securing it firmly.

Zhang Ran quickly glanced around the room, then lowered his voice and asked Li Yuetong, "Sister-in-law, where's my brother?"

Li Yuetong gently shook her head, her tone filled with helplessness and worry, "He went out and hasn't come back yet. His phone has no signal, and I can't contact him."

"Big brother's not here? What do we do? I don't think that emergency exit door will hold for long. Those rats have a really keen sense of smell; they'll go wherever there are people! It's really weird; how did such a big rat suddenly appear!"

Tang Dashan was still in shock and couldn't believe what was happening before his eyes.

No one responded to his words. Zombies had already appeared, so the rats growing a little bigger didn't seem like anything to be overly surprised about.

Zhang Ran gently helped Li Wanning to sit down on the sofa, carefully adjusted her clothes, and then walked to the window, cautiously peeking through a small gap in the curtains to check the situation.

Throughout the neighborhood, the gray-black figures of these giant mutated rats were everywhere. Although they weren't densely packed and covered the sky, they still scurried around in groups of three or five, causing chaos wherever they went.

Because of their appearance, the survivors who had been hiding and fearing the zombies could no longer hide and were all accurately found by these rats.

A fierce battle erupted instantly in the stairwell and inside the house.

These rats seem to have only mutated in size and strength, and have not become completely berserk and insane like zombies.

Faced with human counterattacks, they even knew how to dodge, which gave many people a chance to escape.

The screams of humans, angry curses and cries, came one after another from several nearby buildings, mixed with the sharp, piercing squeaking of rats. All sorts of sounds mingled together, and the entire community was in complete chaos.

Zhang Ran's expression turned serious as he turned to look at Li Yuetong.

"Sister-in-law, we can't stay in this neighborhood anymore. These rats have such a keen sense of smell; they'll break down the door sooner or later."

"I know we have to rush out, get in the truck, and go to the vicinity of Donghe Park to find Shen Xian..."

"Crack—!"

Li Yuetong nodded. The incessant scratching sounds outside the safety passage indicated that the giant rats had long been eyeing this floor.

Before she could finish speaking, the glass window behind Zhang Ran suddenly shattered, sending shards of glass flying everywhere and hitting the curtains. The sharp, piercing squeal of a mouse instantly broke the silence in the room.

"Squeak squeak squeak—!"

The four people in the room felt their hearts skip a beat at the same time.

Zhang Ran instinctively lunged to the sofa, shielding Li Wanning, who had already stood up, behind him.

Li Yuetong immediately gripped the pistol tightly with both hands, aiming it at the window.

"Click-click-click—!"

A few seconds passed, but instead of the giant rat rushing into the house, a frantic grinding sound came from the metal as it chewed on the stainless steel.

Zhang Ran looked at Li Yuetong, nodded slightly to her, then stepped forward and yanked the curtain open to one side. Tang Dashan reacted immediately and ran to pull open the other curtain.

The window glass was already shattered, the window frame was crooked, and two giant rats were hanging on the security bars, their sharp, yellowed front teeth gnawing at the stainless steel bars.

The solid anti-theft steel bar, thicker than a finger, was bitten through in just a few bites by one of the animals!

As soon as the curtains were drawn back, the two giant rats instantly spotted the living creatures in the room. They stopped abruptly, their small, scarlet eyes widening as they stared intently at the people inside. Then, they opened their sharp snouts and let out an even more piercing and excited howl!

"Squeak squeak squeak—! Squeak squeak squeak—!"

Almost simultaneously, echoes of similar howls rose and fell from the distant stairwells, open spaces in the community, and between buildings, as if summoning reinforcements.

"Sister-in-law! It's right here...!"

Zhang Ran turned around, wanting to remind Li Yuetong to fire quickly, but Li Yuetong's decisive nature meant she didn't need anyone to say anything.

The moment they drew back the curtains, she had already firmly set her sights on the giant rat that was the first thing she saw.

"piu!piu!"

Li Yuetong raised her hand and fired two shots, swift and decisive.

At extremely close range, aiming was effortless. Two bullets were fired, one after the other. One hit the giant rat's eye precisely, and the other went straight through its forehead.

Without saying a word, the gray rat went limp and fell straight off the security window.

After taking down the first one, she swiftly turned her gun on the second one without hesitation.

When the giant rat saw its companion fall from the building, it subconsciously looked down at it, then stopped gnawing on the railing and turned around without hesitation, trying to jump out of the window to escape!

That person's IQ doesn't seem low.

But Li Yuetong acted too quickly and decisively, so fast, accurate and ruthless that she gave it no chance to escape.

Two more shots were fired in quick succession, one hitting the back of its neck, and the other striking its back as it leaped into the air. Blood splattered instantly on the windowsill, the giant rat's legs tightened, and after letting out a short, shrill scream, it fell to the ground below.

Zhang Ran was stunned by Li Yuetong's decisive and efficient manner, and his eyes immediately revealed undisguised admiration.

Li Wanning was equally amazed, her expression filled with surprise and admiration.

Tang Dashan, standing to the side, was not surprised at all; he was already used to his sister-in-law's fierce demeanor.

Zhang Ran pressed himself against the window again, and Li Yuetong quickly stepped forward to check as well. Upon seeing the scene outside, a deep sense of horror flashed across their eyes simultaneously.

Between the buildings, more than sixty giant rats were rushing toward their windows, a dark, gray mass, while many more were frantically climbing the exterior walls, lunging at the windows of other residents.

Many survivors were desperately stabbing the rats hanging on the security windows with fruit knives and kitchen knives. Their desperate cries for help and screams mingled with the rats' screech, creating a terrifying scene.

"piupiupiu——!"

Li Yuetong raised her hand and fired in quick succession, the bullets piercing through the surging swarm of rats and killing several giant rats on the spot.

Several giant rats were shot in the abdomen, too painful to move, lying on the ground howling pitifully and licking their bleeding wounds.

But more giant rats were already leaping rapidly up the wall, getting closer and closer to the window, and about to surround it.

"Let's go! Downstairs! To the car!"

While Li Yuetong continued to fire and suppress the swarm of rats below the window, she gave instructions to Zhang Ran and the others.
