Zombie Apocalypse: Don't be afraid, I'm not a good person.
Chapter 81 Rushing out of the room
Zhang Ran and Tang Dashan didn't hesitate at all. One immediately turned around, grabbed his wife and protected her behind him, while the other used a pot lid as a shield. They strode to the door and opened it.
As soon as Tang Dashan pushed the door open a crack, a strong, fishy smell hit him.
The metal security door in the stairwell had been gnawed open, leaving a jagged hole. A giant rat squeezed through the hole, its eyes lit up when it saw him, and it lunged at him with its mouth wide open!
The sudden attack startled him, but in a life-or-death situation, there was no time to think.
Tang Dashan tensed his arms, gripped the pot lid tightly, gritted his teeth, and used all his strength to ram the giant rat that pounced on him. At the same time, he shouted loudly to warn the people inside the house.
"They're coming in!"
Tang Dashan was already a fat and muscular man over 1.9 meters tall, and he was also quite strong. The giant rat, which was nearly a meter tall, was sent flying backward by his sudden headbutt and crashed heavily into the opposite wall.
Before he could even catch his breath, a gray shadow flashed past the hole, and two more giant rats, baring their yellowed front teeth, crawled in.
"Wanning, be careful! I'm going to help!"
Hearing Tang Dashan's roar, Zhang Ran's face tightened. He hurriedly gave his wife a few words of advice, gripped his homemade spear tightly, and charged out.
As soon as I stepped outside, I saw Tang Dashan holding a pot lid, trying to block the giant rat from attacking. He pushed the lid away forcefully, and with his other hand, he was wildly slashing with a kitchen knife.
Although his strength was scattered and his aim was poor, failing to inflict fatal wounds on the rats, he managed to barely hold off the three giant rats' successive attacks with his brute force.
These rats are merely mutated and evolved; they are not mindless zombie rats. Deep down, they still harbor an instinctive fear of large creatures.
Faced with the Tangda Mountain, which was much larger than themselves, they only dared to probe from a distance, not to fight to the death.
Just as Tang Dashan slammed another giant rat to the ground, Zhang Ran's eyes narrowed as he seized this fleeting opportunity.
He stepped forward, lowered his body, gripped the spear tightly with both hands, and thrust the cold-sharp tip forward, piercing the giant rat's soft and defenseless abdomen!
"Squeak squeak squeak—!"
The giant rat screamed in pain, its sharp front teeth snapping wildly as it bit into the spear shaft, breaking the wooden handle in one bite. Zhang Ran didn't even have time to pull the spear out.
Zhang Ran looked at the spear in his hand, now only half a short stick, and felt a pang of heartache, but his face remained calm. He coldly glanced at the giant rat that was baring its teeth and hissing at them, bluffing and showing off.
The next second, he gripped the short stick tightly with both hands, gathered his strength, and smashed it down on the rat's head! Every blow was filled with hatred!
This weapon has been with him for a long time!
My spear! My spear! My spear!
Inside the house, Li Yuetong saw that the three of them had already rushed into the corridor. She fired a few more shots at the rats downstairs and was about to turn around and follow them when, out of the corner of her eye, she caught a glimpse of a tragic scene outside the window.
A man was being held captive by several giant rats, his body being pulled in the air as if being torn apart by a chariot. He could not move at all and could only let out desperate and shrill screams that sent chills down one's spine.
Li Yuetong's heart tightened at the sight. Instinctively, he raised his gun with both hands, aimed at one of the giant rats that was biting his arm fiercely, and his fingertips were already on the trigger.
Just as she was about to fire, the giant rats simultaneously exerted their strength and tore at her frantically.
"Snap—Sizzle!"
The man's limbs snapped instantly, his arms and legs being torn from his body one by one, and scalding blood gushed out, staining the nearby ground red and meandering along the cracks in the paving stones.
"Ah—! Ahh—! Uh…"
In the blink of an eye, the once whole person was reduced to a bloody torso and passed out.
Li Yuetong's eyes instantly turned red, a chill ran up her spine, and she felt a mixture of shock, anger, and fear.
The man lay in a pool of blood, barely able to turn his neck, staring blankly and desperately at his mutilated body, listening to the sound of giant rats gnawing at his arms and legs, and constantly letting out heart-wrenching screams.
Li Yuetong knew that continuing to live would only be torture for him, so she decisively turned her gun around.
"Piu!"
The bullet struck the man's head precisely. His head stiffened, and he slammed helplessly to the ground, his screams abruptly ceasing.
"Squeak squeak squeak—!"
A giant rat had already climbed up to the window in front of us, squeaking and gnawing at the security bars.
"piupiupiupiu—!"
"Aaaaaah—!"
With red eyes, Li Yuetong fired repeatedly at the giant rat outside the window as if venting her anger.
One by one, giant rats, shot and convulsing, fell off the windowsill, but even more rats continued to climb up frantically.
Until the security window was chewed out of shape and became ineffective, a giant rat forced its way through the gap and half of its body poked inside.
Li Yuetong raised her hand and fired a shot that struck the giant rat squarely in the forehead, leaving a bloody hole. The giant rat instantly stopped moving, and its corpse was stuck in the gap, temporarily blocking the subsequent swarm of rats.
She didn't linger and immediately turned and rushed towards the front door.
As she stepped out the door and grasped the doorknob, she glanced up at the window again.
Another giant rat bit the corpse's rear end, which was stuck at the entrance of the hole, and with a sudden jerk, threw the dead rat down. Then it bared its teeth at her, revealing its ferocious nature.
"Piu! Piu!"
Li Yuetong showed no mercy and fired two more shots, the bullets piercing its body.
Watching the giant rat scream as it plummeted from the building, she felt a surge of satisfaction, then slammed the door shut with a loud bang—another obstacle to be overcome!
In the corridor, a giant rat's head was completely smashed, dark red blood and grayish-white brain matter splattered on the wall, and a stench permeated the enclosed space. The corpse lay twisted in the corner.
Four more giant rats were forced back to the entrance of the safety passage. Their gray-black fur stood on end, their hind legs pushed off the ground and they stood upright with their front paws slightly raised. Sharp fangs protruded from their lips, their scarlet eyes stared intently ahead, and they made low, fierce squeaks in their throats, ready to pounce at any moment.
The corridor was cramped, and the two sides were locked in a tense standoff, the air so thick it seemed ready to snap at any moment.
Tang Dashan gripped a kitchen knife in one hand and slammed a pot lid down hard with the other, the loud clanging echoing through the stairwell. His expression was ferocious as he roared at the top of his lungs, trying his best to intimidate the mutated giant rats.
Zhang Ran gripped the short stick tightly, his arm taut, the stick swaying in front of him, his feet firmly planted on the ground, not daring to retreat even a fraction.
Li Wanning huddled by the door, clutching three bulging backpacks tightly in her arms, her face pale, barely daring to breathe.
Li Yuetong pushed open the door and stepped out, and this was the scene that greeted her.
She glanced at the scene, raised her arm, raised her gun, aimed, and pulled the trigger repeatedly in one fluid motion.
"piu! piu! piu! piu!"
The sound of gunfire was pleasant to Zhang Ran and his men, but it was terrible for the giant rats.
Firearms are absolutely devastating to flesh and blood.
The giant rats, which had been showing their ferocity and poised to pounce, were suddenly shot one after another, their bodies convulsing violently.
One by one they crashed heavily to the ground, their limbs twitched a few times, and then they fell completely still.
"Zhang Ran, go protect Sister Wan Ning. Fatty, did you get the truck keys?"
Li Yuetong lowered the muzzle of her gun, the lingering smoke drifting faintly from it. As she spoke, she strode towards Li Wanning and reached out to take the backpack that Li Wanning was tightly clutching in her arms.
"The keys are in my pocket, sister-in-law!"
Tang Dashan patted his pocket heavily, the dull thud of metal keys clanging through the fabric.
He and Zhang Ran immediately moved closer, reached out to take the backpack, and deftly slung it over their shoulders.
Li Wanning, however, gripped the strap of the last backpack tightly and refused to let go.
She tilted her head slightly to look at Li Yuetong, her eyes filled with an unconcealable sense of guilt and pleading, and said softly, "Sister-in-law, let me carry this? It will be lighter for you, and you'll be more agile, making it easier to kill the rats."
Her pregnancy was just beginning to show, and she wasn't about to give birth yet, but everyone was silently protecting her the whole way. This made her feel uneasy. She just wanted to carry even a little bit of weight, rather than be a burden who would only be taken care of. Everyone was a new teammate, and no one owed her anything.
Li Yuetong looked into her eyes and immediately saw through her unease and stubbornness.
The backpack was as light as a feather to her, but the team's spirit of not backing down, not shirking responsibility, and being willing to take on challenges was even more important to the team.
She loosened the straps of her backpack, a beautiful smile playing on her lips. "Okay, you can carry it then. But don't try to carry heavy things yourself. Let your man carry it. He's a grown man, a little hardship is nothing to him. When you have some free time, give him a massage, just be considerate of him."
"Oh dear, sister-in-law~"
Zhang Ran didn't say anything, but naturally took the backpack, quickly opened it, took out the heavy canned goods and hard items, stuffed them into his own backpack, leaving only the light items, and then handed it back to his wife.
Realizing that she was no longer just a burden, Li Wanning's tense expression instantly relaxed, and a genuine smile appeared on her lips.
