The Heiress's Game

Chapter 157 Let Tianyi do it

When the video call rang, Gu Yunjin was already lying in bed.

She had just dried her hair and was nestled in the soft pillow, a face mask on her face, her phone held directly above her face.

Bai Junze's face appeared on the screen, and judging from the background, he should still be in the office.

"Why aren't you off work so late?" Gu Yunjin's voice was muffled, as if she were wearing a face mask.

"I just finished a multinational conference and I'm about to leave."

Bai Junze leaned his phone against the table and back, his gaze lingering on her face on the screen, where only her eyes and mouth were visible.

"What's that on your face?"

"Face masks, moisturizing, whitening, and brightening skin tone—forget it, straight men wouldn't understand."

Gu Yunjin pressed the edges of the face mask and shifted to a more comfortable position.

"By the way, I'm going to Yunjing on a business trip in a few days."

"What are you here for?" Bai Junze asked.

"I'm preparing to make a new variety show, about romance."

When Gu Yunjin talked about work, her voice became noticeably clearer, and even her face mask couldn't hide the light in her eyes.

"The combination of celebrities and ordinary people, and the entire narrative logic of the show is built from a female perspective—what kind of love scenes, what kind of heart-fluttering moments, and what kind of relationships do they want to see?"

Bai Junze listened very attentively.

He had a habit when listening to Gu Yunjin talk about work—he never interrupted, never gave a perfunctory "uh-huh" and changed the subject, but was genuinely listening and trying to understand.

After listening, he asked, "Did you consider the man's perspective when designing the scenario?"

"You've actually started thinking about this?" Gu Yunjin peeled off the face mask and threw it into the trash can, then sat up and leaned against the headboard, her tone slightly teasing.

"Bai Junze, are you being a little too interested in my line of work?"

"No, I'm just interested in what you're talking about," Bai Junze corrected her.

Gu Yunjin was taken aback by this matter-of-fact answer and had no time to retaliate.

Bai Junze continued, "But now that you mention it, I do remember something."

Those couples you analyzed for me last time—Lin Yu and Bai Lu—would probably be a guaranteed ratings draw if they were on your dating reality show.

The two chatted for a while longer, and then Bai Junze suddenly looked at the schedule that his secretary had just sent him.

He said with a hint of apology, "I was going on a business trip to Europe during the days you were here. The trip was booked last week and I couldn't cancel it."

Gu Yunjin wiped her hands with a wet wipe, her tone casual.

"It's okay, you go about your business."

I'm not coming alone this time; several senior executives from Xingyao are coming with me, so we have enough manpower.

Bai Junze remained silent for a moment.

"I'll have Tianyi pick you up then."

"Don't bother him, he's usually quite busy—"

"He's not busy."

Bai Junze interrupted her, and Gu Yunjin was speechless, unable to find a point to refute him.

Bai Tianyi is indeed not busy. He himself said that his biggest career plan in life is to be a salted fish.

"It's already inappropriate for my girlfriend to come over while I, her boyfriend, have to go on a business trip."

"So Bai Tianyi has to step in for me. Have him pick you up from the airport. If you need him to run any errands in Yunjing these next few days, just ask him. Don't be shy. And—"

There was a hint of helplessness in his tone, "He would be very willing to do it himself. If he were to pick you up, he would probably be so happy that he would wash the car three times in advance."

Gu Yunjin couldn't help but laugh when she thought of Bai Tianyi's perpetually enthusiastic face.

She nodded: "Okay, then I'll have to trouble Tianyi."

Even if I asked him to pick you up, he would be more than willing. Do you think he wouldn't want to?

Gu Yunjin was silent for a moment, then softly hummed in agreement: "Okay, then you can tell him."

After hanging up with Bai Junze, a new WeChat message popped up on my phone from Bai Tianyi:

"Sister-in-law! You're coming to Yunjing! I'm ready to be your driver! Don't worry, I'm a good driver." A whole row of sparkling star emojis followed behind.

She stared at the row of stars for a moment, then couldn't help but laugh.
