Chapter 513 Mrs. Lin!
As Will passed a glass case displaying a cut-out model of an engine, he stopped, pointed to the cross-section inside, and uttered a few technical terms.
Hans added a few words from the side, speaking quickly with a distinct German accent. After listening, Ouyang Qian turned her head to translate for Lin Feng.
"He said this is the early structure of a V8 engine, which has been iterated through several generations. The latest hybrid system is developed based on this. Hans said that the plug-in hybrid system they are currently promoting has a thermal efficiency that is 30 percent higher than the previous generation, and the energy density of the battery pack has also increased."
Lin Feng stood in front of the glass cabinet and listened for a moment. His gaze lingered on the metal surface of the engine, then he turned to Ouyang Qian and said, "Tell him that we are more interested in their hybrid technology and supply chain cooperation model this time."
Ouyang Qian turned and relayed the sentence to Will in English, maintaining her tone and wording well, accurately conveying his meaning without sounding awkward.
Will nodded after listening and gestured for them to walk in another direction. They walked through a corridor and pushed open a glass door.
Inside was a small conference room with light gray walls and a large screen embedded in the front. Several cars of different models were parked on a display table against the wall: silver-gray, dark blue, and pure white, their paint gleaming evenly under the overhead lights.
Will asked them to sit down, and a short introductory video began playing on the screen, covering everything from the brand's history to the latest hybrid technology, encompassing all product lines and containing a considerable amount of information.
The video had soft background music and fast-paced scene transitions. As Ouyang Qian watched, she quietly translated the key information to Lin Feng.
After the video ended, Will gestured to his assistant to place a printed document on the table.
He flipped through those pages and began to introduce the current cooperation framework and the list of models available for export in English. He also mentioned some cases of joint venture brands in China as references, explaining that Audi has conducted some preliminary research on the Asian market and has categorized contingency plans for different market demands and policy inclinations.
Ouyang Qian took the document and flipped through it from beginning to end. She then turned back to the second page and looked at it carefully before looking up and speaking to Will in English.
She spoke slowly, clearly, and accurately, occasionally pausing to confirm something the other person said before continuing.
Several questions were raised, focusing on the impact of tariffs on final prices, as well as the supply of after-sales parts and exclusive distribution channels for imported models.
"He said that the tariff was indeed not included in the price. After-sales parts can be supplied directly from Audi's official channels, but a separate parts supply agreement needs to be signed. Regarding channel exclusivity, they require that there be no more than three authorized dealers for imported models in the same region." Ouyang Qian turned her head and condensed Will's answer into a few sentences in Chinese.
"Three companies are too many. Our car dealership has no competitors of the same level in Jiangbei, so asking for exclusive authorization is not unreasonable," Lin Feng said.
Ouyang Qian nodded and turned to Will, saying something in English.
Will frowned after listening, exchanged a few words with Hans beside him in a low voice, and then looked up and spoke a string of English. Ouyang Qian translated for Lin Feng: "He said that exclusive authorization requires approval from the headquarters' legal and business departments, and it's not something he can decide on his own. But if we can commit to a certain annual purchase volume, he can help push it forward."
Ask him how much he needs.
Ouyang Qian confirmed with Will again, then said to Lin Feng, "The first order will start at 2,000 units, with a minimum of 3,000 units guaranteed for the following year. If we reach that number, he can help us apply for regional exclusivity."
Lin Feng thought for a moment, then tapped his fingers lightly on the armrest of the chair twice. "Okay. Tell him we can promise the quantity, but the price must be a discount that matches the quantity."
After listening to the translation, Will smiled slightly, his beard twitching as he moved his lips. He tapped the documents on the table with his fingers and said a sentence.
Ouyang Qian translated: "He said the price will be discussed in detail tomorrow, and today we'll finalize the car models and technical routes, and have someone gather the models we're interested in."
A table appears on the screen, listing the prices of several key models and corresponding market strategy recommendations. The figures in the table are all in Euros, and there are explanations of tax rebates and regional incentive policies alongside them.
Ouyang Qian looked at it for a moment, pointed to one of the lines of data, turned to Lin Feng and whispered, "Their price is a level higher than expected, and the tariff is not included in the quote. If the tariff is added, this price will not be competitive in the domestic market."
Ouyang Qian did not rush to answer.
He flipped to the last page of the document, glanced at the table on the screen, and tapped the table lightly with his finger. "Choose two mid-range SUVs and two sedans, prioritizing hybrid versions, as well as some classic gasoline versions. The premium pricing power of BBA (BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi) in China remains very stable, and the market demand for gasoline versions cannot be fully absorbed in the short term. Hybrids are a supplement to the new energy vehicle policy."
I suggest starting with four models: the Q5 plug-in hybrid, the A6L gasoline version, the Q3 entry-level version, and the A4 sports version. These four models cover the price range of 250,000 to 600,000 yuan, which precisely targets the mid-to-high-end customers that the car market currently lacks most.
"You seem to know this quite well."
"Before entering this industry, I worked at a consulting firm for two years." Ouyang Qian closed the documents. "I still understand the product matrix and pricing logic of German cars to some extent."
Will sat opposite Lin Feng and Ouyang Qian. After they finished talking, his gaze lingered on Ouyang Qian's face for a moment, then he nodded, said a sentence in German, and then added it in English.
After listening, Ouyang Qian turned to Lin Feng and said, "The configuration lists and technical parameters of the cars I just mentioned can be found on the existing list. He will arrange for someone to send us the detailed information."
After listening, Lin Feng didn't hesitate much, "Then let's do it your way and decide on these models first."
Ouyang Qian turned and conveyed the decision to Will in English.
After listening, Will stood up, extended his hand to shake hands with Lin Feng and then with Ouyang Qian, and said, "Welcome to Audi. We will confirm the meeting time tomorrow via email."
The staff member next to her had already compiled the information on the models that had just been discussed into an electronic version and sent it to the email address that Ouyang Qian had left.
The group chatted for a few more minutes about the arrangements for visiting the production line and testing site. Will explained that they could be arranged to see it in person the following afternoon, with technical personnel providing explanations.
Ouyang Qian nodded in agreement and took Lin Feng's arm as they walked out of the conference room.
The corridor was brightly lit. She released his hand, glanced at the email on her phone, and said, "The information he sent is quite detailed. I'll go through it when I get back to the hotel and sort out the terms we need to discuss tomorrow." She put her phone back in her handbag. "Leave the price negotiations to me. You can just stand there and be a decoration."
"It's fine as a decoration too," Lin Feng said.
Ouyang Qian glanced at him sideways, smiled slightly, and continued walking without refuting him. The hem of her burgundy skirt swayed gently with her steps, and the curve of her waist and hips appeared exceptionally smooth in the corridor light.
After walking a few steps, she suddenly stopped, turned to look at him, as if she had remembered something.
"By the way, did you notice the way Will looked at me just now?" she said.
"There are countless ways people look at you, which one are you referring to?"
"It's that look European men give when they look at Asian women," Ouyang Qian chuckled. "He's probably thinking, 'Why did this Chinese woman bring a male secretary to discuss business?'"
"Then you should tell him that you are the secretary."
"That won't do." Ouyang Qian took his arm again and led him towards the elevator. "Today I'm Mrs. Lin, and you're President Lin. I can be your secretary tomorrow when we discuss the price."
"Let's go, Mrs. Lin! I'll treat you to a German feast for lunch!"
"You said it yourself."
