Wizard: I Have a Nightmare World
Chapter 10 [Boiling Blood Potion]
Lynn's steps were much lighter as she left the apothecary.
The herbalist's badge on his chest gleamed silvery-white in the sunlight, the box of blood-patterned tea in his arms weighed heavily on his chest, and the parchment containing the [Boiling Blood Potion] was kept close to his body.
Having completed his apprenticeship in herbal medicine, Lynn no longer had to worry about his survival for a while, and thus relaxed considerably.
He watched the other apprentices hurrying past him, their faces filled with hesitation, worry, and fear.
A few days ago, he was one of them, but now he has temporarily escaped from this quagmire and has a brief moment to breathe.
Regaining his composure, Lynn exhaled and headed towards the cafeteria.
After finishing the free black bread and a bowl of thin bean soup, and making sure he wouldn't hear any useful information here like he had yesterday, he slowly returned to the Thirteenth Cultivation Room.
Pushing open the door to the incubation room, looking at the somewhat cramped space, he felt an unprecedented sense of peace and security for the first time.
From this day forward, this room belongs to Lynn.
With no herbalist apprenticeship tasks of cultivating herbs and no requirement to submit potions, he can be said to have little pressure now, except for not yet becoming a first-class wizard apprentice.
Lynn lingered in front of the herbs for a while, carefully examining the growing herbs. After confirming that everything was normal, she returned to her room, locked the door, and sat on the bed.
He placed the parchment containing the [Boiling Blood Potion] on the table, then closed his eyes and entered a meditative state.
In the space of consciousness, the first meditation rune still floated quietly, emitting a soft light.
The second meditation rune has not yet been drawn; his main task now is to draw the second meditation rune.
Lynn tried to sketch the first stroke, but before his mental energy could even leave a trace, he encountered tremendous resistance.
It felt like something was trying to stop him from completing the rune drawing.
Lynn gritted his teeth and persevered, fine beads of sweat beginning to appear on his forehead.
Once, twice, three times, with persistent effort, the resistance to drawing the second meditation rune gradually decreased, and the first stroke was completed in a short while.
"After the mental scale was increased to 0.5, the difficulty of sketching did indeed decrease somewhat."
Seeing this, Lynn was overjoyed and continued to output his mental energy, outlining the runes stroke by stroke.
Time passed by, second by second.
When Lynn finally finished outlining the third stroke of the second meditation rune, he was covered in sweat, as if he had just been pulled out of the water.
Lynn gasped for breath, snapping out of his meditative state. He opened his eyes and looked out the window; it was already afternoon.
I didn't expect this meditation to take so long.
Lynn didn't feel like he was at a loss, because he could feel his mental strength improving subtly, albeit slightly, but it was a real improvement, and his perception of the surrounding environment had become more acute.
"With each stroke of the meditation runes, your mental strength will increase to a certain extent."
"Or perhaps, this is the greatest value of the White Raven Tower basic meditation method."
Lynn stretched his stiff body, got out of bed, washed his face in the basin, and then went to the table to look at the parchment containing the "Boiling Blood Potion".
The handwriting on the parchment is neat and strong, and it is clear at a glance that the recorder was very serious.
Lynn read through the contents of the [Boiling Blood Potion] document again, but as time went on, his brows furrowed.
Although he was mentally prepared, he never expected that the formula for this medicine was far more complex than that of a hemostatic medicine.
It requires six main materials alone.
They are:
Dragon's Beard Grass is a rare herb that grows in volcanic areas. Its leaves are long and thin, resembling dragon's whiskers, and it has an extremely high affinity for the fire element.
Bloodthorn flower, a plant that is dark red all over, contains a large amount of substances in its thorns that can activate human potential.
Iron-bone ginseng is a tuberous herb that grows deep underground. Its texture is as hard as iron, and it requires special pretreatment to release its medicinal properties.
Blue heart grass is a common herb, but it needs to be harvested within an hour of flowering, otherwise its medicinal properties will be severely diminished.
Bloodstone powder, a mineral additive, can guide and stabilize the energy burst of medicinal properties.
Snake saliva needs to be extracted from live venomous snakes and has a very short shelf life; it will become ineffective after three days.
Each of the six materials is quite difficult to obtain, and each requires a different processing method.
Dragon's Beard Grass needs to be dried at a low temperature before grinding; the thorns of Bloodthorn Flower need to be peeled off while it is still damp; Iron Bone Ginseng needs to be soaked in Ebony Liquid for half an hour...
Furthermore, the most crucial step is to mix the bloodstone powder with the snake saliva and then add it to the main medicine solution while stirring vigorously. If the timing and speed are slightly off, the entire potion will be ruined.
"No wonder Harvey said that concocting the Boiling Blood Potion during the assessment would greatly increase the chances of being selected."
Lynn looked away from the parchment and rubbed his throbbing temples.
The name "Boiling Blood Potion" is enough to send chills down your spine just by looking at it once. You can only imagine how difficult it would be to actually make it.
But this is exactly what Lynn is good at.
With the Nightmare World around, he can practice an unlimited number of times without worrying about material waste or running out of time.
He could try again and again until he had a thorough grasp of every detail.
"However... some details in this recipe are not clearly written, it's almost as if they were deliberately left blank."
Lynn read it again carefully and found that several descriptions about heat control and the order of adding ingredients, as well as the handling methods of some auxiliary materials, were rather vague.
"It seems that the Bloodvine Wizard doesn't want others to learn his potions easily either; this recipe might even be an abridged version."
Lynn thoughtfully put away the parchment.
Regardless of whether the recipe is complete or not, he must first try to make the parts that he can in the nightmare world, and then fill in the missing parts based on his understanding and experience.
Lynn glanced at the sky outside the window; it was already dusk, and there was still some time before midnight.
He decided to rest for a while and recharge his energy before fully immersing himself in the research of the Boiling Blood Potion after entering the Nightmare World at midnight.
Lying in bed, Lynn closed her eyes and quickly drifted into a light sleep.
……
As the midnight bells rang, that familiar pulling sensation returned.
When Lynn opened his eyes, the grayish-white bone-like ground and the boundless fog once again came into his view.
Nightmare World, here we come!
Without wasting any time, Lynn closed his eyes and recalled the recipe for the [Boiling Blood Potion] and the specific appearance of its ingredients in his mind.
Soon, the main materials he needed appeared before him.
Dragon's Beard Grass, Bloodthorn Flower, Iron Bone Ginseng, Blue Core Grass, Bloodstone Powder, Snake Saliva...
As the materials kept appearing in front of him, Lynn quickly materialized all the equipment he needed, and all of them were of high quality.
"Okay, let's begin!"
Taking a deep breath, Lynn picked up the dragon's beard grass and began the low-temperature drying process according to the recipe.
……
After half an hour,
Lynn's lips twitched involuntarily as he looked at the sticky, burnt-smelling liquid in the beaker in front of him.
"Failed again. It seems we didn't control the heat well this time, and the dragon beard grass is burnt."
Lynn casually tossed the beaker behind him and started again.
The second time, he adjusted the drying temperature and processed the dragon beard grass perfectly. However, when processing the iron bone ginseng, the soaking time was insufficient, and the medicinal properties were not fully released, resulting in the subsequent medicinal liquid not being able to blend.
The third time, the snake saliva was added a fraction of a second earlier, and the entire tube of medicine boiled instantly, then cooled into a black, gelatinous mass.
The fourth time, the Bloodstone powder was added too quickly, causing the potion to explode and accidentally revive Lynn once more.
The fifth time, the sixth time, the seventh time...
Lynn repeated the process tirelessly. After each failure, he would stop to carefully analyze the reasons for the failure and then make adjustments in the next attempt.
In this process, Lynn's understanding of the [Boiling Blood Potion] deepened, and he gradually figured out the correct way to do the parts of the formula that were unclear.
On his seventeenth attempt, the beaker in his hand finally revealed the deep red liquid he needed, emitting a warm aura.
"Only one last step remains."
Lynn held his breath and slowly picked up the beaker containing the mixed bloodstone powder and snake saliva, preparing to pour it into the main medicinal liquid.
