Wizard: I Have a Nightmare World
Chapter 17 The Essence of Potions
When we returned to the incubation room, it was already dark.
Lynn locked the door behind him, walked to the worktable, unrolled the parchment containing the annotations to "Basic Meditation Methods," and began to read it carefully by the light.
The annotation provided by the Bloodvine Wizard was extremely detailed. It not only marked the key points of the "Resonance Mark" to be performed by the third rune, but also drew a schematic diagram of the path of the flow of spiritual power at the key points.
This is a precious material that cannot be bought outside.
For the first time, Lynn experienced the difference between having a guide and feeling his way across a river on his own.
But he didn't rush to start meditating right away.
He first closed his eyes, and the scene he had witnessed on the twelfth floor of the White Raven Tower earlier that day came to mind.
The bizarre scene of the Bloodvine Wizard's body expanding and shrinking in an instant.
The image replayed in his mind several times, but he couldn't find any reasonable explanation for it.
"Forget it, it's too early for me to explore the secrets of a formal wizard at my current level."
"The most urgent task is to improve mental strength as soon as possible."
Lynn cleared his mind of distractions, memorized the structure of the third rune on the parchment, then returned to his resting room, lay down on his bed, and closed his eyes.
When that familiar pulling sensation came, Lynn opened his eyes again. He was now standing on the gray-white bone-like ground, surrounded by an endless gray fog.
The Nightmare World has arrived!
Let's begin!
Lynn sat cross-legged, closed his eyes, and sketched out the rune structure of the "Resonance Mark" in his mind.
This rune is far more complex than the previous two, with twenty-four main lines and twelve auxiliary lines intersecting within it, forming a precise and intricate energy network.
He attempted to sketch the first stroke, but as soon as his mental energy touched the outline of the rune, a powerful resistance repelled him.
The fused core rune in the consciousness space suddenly trembled, like an ancient bell being struck, emitting a buzzing vibration.
Lynn's mental energy surged violently, and the entire space of consciousness trembled.
He gritted his teeth, forcibly steadied his mental strength, and tried to sketch again.
The second attempt failed.
The third attempt failed.
The fourth stroke finally sketched out half an arc, but then it collapsed.
He was not discouraged; in the nightmare world, he had plenty of time.
If once doesn't work, try ten times; if ten times doesn't work, try a hundred times.
When he tried for the thirty-seventh time, the first main line finally landed steadily in the space of consciousness, emitting a faint but steady light.
Lynn opened his eyes and let out a long breath.
He stopped drawing instead of continuing, and firmly memorized the flow and frequency of his mental energy when he successfully drew the first stroke, and then began to consolidate it.
In the time that follows, he will polish every stroke to perfection.
……
The next morning, Lynn appeared at the entrance of the main tower of White Raven Tower as scheduled.
As he approached the gate wearing the dark red badge, a faint blood-red glow appeared on its surface, and ripples spread across the space in front of him, like a pebble being thrown into water.
Without hesitation, he stepped inside.
The scene before him changed; Lynn did not pass through the lobby on the first floor, but appeared directly in the corridor on the twelfth floor.
"Spatial folding... what an amazing technique."
Lynn sighed inwardly, then knocked on the door of the Bloodvine Wizard's study.
"Come in."
The Bloodvine Wizard's voice rang out from inside.
Lynn pushed open the door and entered.
This time, the layout of the study was different from what I saw yesterday.
The desk and bookshelves were moved to the wall, and a large obsidian workbench appeared in the center of the room. Various exquisite glasswares and medicinal herbs were placed on the table, and a faint cool fragrance filled the air.
Bloodvine Wizard was still sitting behind his desk, but he seemed to be in better spirits than yesterday. Although his face was pale, his breathing was much more steady.
He pointed to a chair in front of the control panel.
"Sit down. For today's first lesson, I'm going to explain a very basic issue to you."
"What's the difference between ordinary potions and magical potions?"
Lynn sat down in the chair, took out his notebook and charcoal pencil, and prepared to take notes.
"No need to take notes, just listen attentively."
"It's more useful to keep what's truly important in your mind than to write it down in a notebook."
Upon hearing this, Lynn put down his pen, sat up straight, and adopted a posture of attentive listening.
Bloodvine Wizard picked up a vial of ordinary potion and a vial of glowing magic potion from the control table and placed them in front of Lynn.
"First, look at the exterior. What do you see?"
After examining it carefully for a moment, Lynn answered seriously.
"Ordinary medicines have a uniform color and a clear texture; they are products made from common herbal materials."
"The potion is a deeper color, with a faint glow flowing on its surface, and you can vaguely feel the energy fluctuations contained within it."
The Bloodvine Wizard put down the potion and placed his hands crossed on the table.
"That's right, it's just appearances."
"The essential difference between the two lies in the materials."
"Ordinary medicines use common herbal materials without any extraordinary properties. Even if it is a hundred-year-old medicinal herb, it is still just an ordinary material."
"And the ingredients used in potions all possess extraordinary properties."
"For example, the dragon's beard grass that grows in volcanic craters absorbs the energy of the earth's fire, and its leaves contain the characteristics of the fire element."
"For example, blood, glands, and bones extracted from living magical beasts carry the mark of extraordinary power."
"Potions made from materials with extraordinary properties are called magic potions."
"But because the ingredients of the potion carry extraordinary power, they will continuously release a special energy fluctuation after being made into a potion."
"We call it energy radiation."
"This kind of radiation is a slow poison for ordinary people. Long-term exposure will erode the body, leading to organ failure and mental disorders."
The Bloodvine Wizard paused here, his gaze falling on Lynn.
"That's why in the White Raven Tower's apothecary workshop, ordinary apothecaries can only process ordinary herbs, while the processing of magical potion ingredients must be handled by specialized potion makers."
"If a mortal comes into contact with any potion-making ingredient, even just a single leaf of Dragon's Beard Grass, and continues to do so for a month, their body will suffer irreversible damage."
He paused for a few seconds, then changed the subject.
"While first-class wizard apprentices have awakened their spiritual power and are physically stronger than ordinary people, they can only barely resist the energy radiation of magic potions and cannot completely ignore it."
"For example, if your current mental strength is 1.2, prolonged exposure to the radiation from the magic potion will still put a burden on your body. At best, it will cause dizziness and nausea; at worst, it will cause mental disorder and may even damage your foundation."
"Only after reaching the second-level apprenticeship, when one's spiritual power liquefies into a sea and begins to absorb energy particles from nature to transform the body, can one gradually adapt to the energy radiation of the magic potion and achieve true insensitivity."
Finally, the Bloodvine Wizard concluded.
"Therefore, I need you to first raise your mental scale to 3.0 or higher, reaching the standard of a second-class apprentice. Only after reaching the standard of a second-class apprentice can you begin to systematically learn potion-making."
"This isn't about making things difficult for you; it's about taking responsibility for you."
Lynn suddenly realized what was going on.
It turns out that the reason the Bloodvine Wizard proposed the fifteen-day limit was not to make things difficult for him at all.
"I understand. From now on, I will focus all my efforts on improving my mental strength."
The Bloodvine Wizard nodded in satisfaction, then took out a palm-sized transparent crystal from the drawer and placed it on the table.
"There's one more thing we need to make sure of before we start learning potions."
"Your elemental affinity attribute."
"Place your hand on this elemental detection stone and infuse it with your mental energy."
Upon hearing this, Lynn placed his palm on the surface and then channeled his mental energy into it.
The transparent crystal remained quiet for a moment, then began to glow. At first, it was a pale blue color, which then became increasingly intense until the entire crystal transformed into a dazzling blue ball of light.
Within that blue light, one could vaguely see several thin white lines, like feathers fluttering in the wind.
"Wind element affinity, top-grade!"
The Bloodvine Wizard's tone carried a hint of surprise and delight, and his gaze toward Lynn held a touch of satisfaction.
"Wind element is compatible, which has certain advantages in potion mixing."
"Wind element is naturally compatible with airflow, and can control the state changes of the medicine more precisely than pharmacists of other elements during the stirring, mixing, and extraction processes."
"This is a good result."
As Bloodvine finished speaking, he put away the element detection stone.
"When you meditate, try to feel the flow of the wind element more; it might help your mental strength improve faster."
Lynn looked down at his hands, feeling the cool and lively sensation lingering on his fingertips, and his heart was filled with anticipation.
"Alright, that concludes today's lesson. You can arrange the rest of the time as you wish."
"You can go back to your own place, or you can stay here."
"I've already reserved a space just for you here."
"Oh right, I almost forgot."
"Take this and keep it safe."
With a wave of his left hand, the Bloodvine Wizard produced a bottle of pale blue potion on the table, which he then gently pushed forward.
Lynn looked at the pale blue potion with curiosity.
"Teacher, what's this?"
"【Mental Stimulant】can be taken before meditation to stimulate the growth of mental power and can assist you in outlining meditation runes to some extent."
"You can only drink a small sip at a time, otherwise it will cause your mental energy to increase excessively, eventually causing your mental energy to explode and turning you into an idiot."
When the Bloodvine Wizard explained the purpose of the potion to Lynn, he did so.
