Wizard: I Have a Nightmare World

Chapter 33 Capture and Dissection

The next three days were peaceful.

The burrowing lizard rat seemed to have vanished completely, neither appearing in the breeding room nor leaving any trace in other breeding rooms.

Lynn used this time to fully immerse herself in the practice of the [Tidal Visualization Method].

Every morning, he would first complete a full tidal visualization, using the gentle and continuous tidal force to cleanse the spiritual pool, peeling away impurities layer by layer.

In the evening, he would conduct a second visualization to consolidate the results of the day.

After three days, most of the impurities in Lynn's spiritual fluid pool had been cleared away.

Deep within the space of consciousness, the pool of spiritual liquid that was originally filled with countless gray dust particles has now become clear and transparent, like a clear spring that has been cleared away.

At the bottom of the liquid pool, only a thin layer of gray sediment remained, like a bit of silt at the deepest part of the pool, barely visible but no longer affecting the overall situation.

"Still 10% short."

Lynn looked inward at his own spiritual fluid pool and made a mental estimate.

At the current purification rate, in two to three days at most, he will be able to completely remove those deep impurities, exceeding the 70% or more that the Bloodvine Wizard mentioned.

Normally, he would have been able to formally learn potion-making long ago, but to be on the safe side, he decided to remove the impurities from his mental energy before starting to learn.

However, fate did not seem to intend for Lynn to have such an easy time.

On the afternoon of the fourth day, Lynn was organizing a batch of newly arrived herbal materials at her workbench, while Amber was watering the silver-leaf flowers in the herb garden.

Just then, a rustling sound came from underground without warning.

The sound was faint and delicate. If Lynn's mental energy hadn't been purified and his perception hadn't been enhanced again, he would have had almost no chance of distinguishing it in the incubation room.

Lynn's movements suddenly stopped, and his eyes instantly locked onto the source of the sound.

Near the roots of those silver grass plants in the southwest corner of the cultivation room!

The ground was slightly rising where the sound came from, as if something was digging upwards from underground, and the soil cracked with slight vibrations.

Amber heard the noise, and she suddenly looked up. The small water bottle in her hand fell to the ground with a "thud." She froze on the spot, her wings trembling in fear.

"Lin...Lin! It's here!"

Lynn didn't waste any words; his movements were as fast as lightning.

With a flick of his left hand, the sorcery model in his consciousness space was infused with spiritual power. The six-pointed star spun rapidly, and the cyan light in the energy circuit compressed sharply. An invisible force surged along his spiritual power conduction path into his left palm.

The whole process took less than two breaths.

The next second, the ground in the southwest corner suddenly cracked open, and a gray-black figure leaped out from the ground, its short, thick limbs and claws outstretched, its sharp front claws pouncing straight at the few silver grass plants.

It's now!

Lynn swung his left hand out suddenly, and a cyan wind blade gathered from his palm and shot out, tearing through the air with a sharp whistle!

The burrowing lizard rat clearly hadn't anticipated the attack.

A flicker of terror flashed in its crimson eyes, and it twisted its body forcefully in mid-air, trying to dodge the wind blade.

But Lynn's attack was too precise; the wind blade almost grazed its body, leaving a shallow bloodstain on its left rib, though it didn't hit it directly.

"squeak!!"

The burrowing lizard rat let out a piercing screech, bounced twice on the ground after landing, and fled towards the hole it had just emerged from.

"Trying to run away?"

A glint of light flashed in Lynn's eyes.

He had anticipated that the guy would run away, so he had already prepared a backup plan before making his move.

[Lightness Technique], activated!

A gentle breeze rose from the soles of his feet, enveloping his entire body, making him feel instantly light and airy.

Lynn dashed forward, moving so fast he almost left a blur, and grabbed the burrowing lizard rat's tail just as its body was halfway into the burrow.

The short, thick tail thrashed wildly in his hand, and the burrowing lizard rat let out an even sharper cry, its limbs clawing frantically at the ground, trying to break free from Lynn's control.

But Lynn's hand was as steady as an iron clamp. With a sudden burst of strength, he pulled the burrowing lizard rat out of its hole and slammed it to the ground.

"squeak--!!!"

The burrowing lizard rat, in pain, rolled on the ground and tried to run away again.

But Lynn was faster. With a flick of his right hand, another wind blade condensed in his palm, hovering steadily, aimed at the burrowing lizard rat's head.

"Try running it again?"

Lynn's voice was calm, yet carried an undeniable air of authority.

The burrowing lizard rat seemed to sense a deadly threat from the wind blade; its body stiffened, its limbs and claws frozen in place, and its small, scarlet eyes filled with terror.

Amber flew down from the window and landed on Lynn's shoulder, peeking out with her little head to look at the trembling burrowing lizard rat, her mouth agape in shock.

"You...you successfully captured this guy alive?!"

Lynn did not answer, but took out an empty potion bottle from his spatial ring, then rummaged through a drawer in his workbench and found a small bottle of sleeping grass powder. He poured it into a clean beaker, added a small amount of water, stirred to dissolve it, and then poured it onto the wound of the burrowing lizard rat.

The powder of the sleeping grass quickly penetrated into the bloodstream of the burrowing lizard rat through the wound. In less than ten seconds, the burrowing lizard rat's body began to sway, its struggles weakened, and it eventually collapsed to the ground, falling into a deep coma.

"The best way to solve a problem is not to get rid of it, but to figure it out completely."

Lynn crouched down, looking at the unconscious burrowing lizard rat, a deep light flashing in his eyes.

Amber tilted her head in confusion.

" Figure out what?"

"Find out how it dug a hole under my bed without me noticing, when I wasn't on guard."

Lynn stood up, picked up the unconscious burrowing lizard rat, and placed it on the worktable.

He took out a set of dissection tools: a jade knife, bone scissors, tweezers, and a magnifying glass with runes, and arranged them on the table.

Amber looked at the tools, and her face turned deathly pale.

"You...you wouldn't want to..."

"Dissection".

Lynn's answer was concise and to the point.

Amber swallowed hard, silently flew to the windowsill, turned around, covered her eyes with her two little hands, but couldn't help peeking through her fingers.

Lynn ignored Amber's hesitation. He took a deep breath, quickly organized the anatomical knowledge in his mind, picked up the jade knife, and began to work.

He made his incision into the belly of the burrowing lizard rat, cutting through the skin and muscle layers along the spine with clean, efficient movements, without wasting a single unnecessary step.

As the skin was peeled back, the internal structure of the burrowing lizard rat was gradually exposed.

Its muscle fibers are very well-developed, especially the muscle groups in its forelimbs and scapula, which have a dark red sheen, clearly an adaptive evolutionary development to support its rapid digging.

But Lynn wasn't looking for muscle structure.

He carefully examined the major organs: the heart, lungs, and digestive system.

Record their shape and location one by one.

As his gaze swept over the burrowing lizard rat's head, he suddenly noticed an unusual detail.

At the base of its skull, near the junction of the brainstem and cervical vertebrae, there is a piece of dark gray tissue about the size of a grain of rice, with a shape that is completely different from other brain tissue.

The tissue had a jelly-like, translucent texture, with a surface covered with fine veins, like a miniature energy loop network.

"What is this?"

Lynn put down the jade knife, replaced it with a finer pair of tweezers and a dissecting needle, and carefully peeled away the surrounding brain tissue, completely removing the dark gray, rice-grain-sized tissue.

He placed the tissue on a clean glass slide and examined it carefully through a magnifying glass.

That tissue was indeed not ordinary neural tissue. It emitted a dim gray glow under the light, and its fine veins formed an extremely simple yet complete energy circuit structure, like some kind of natural magic model.

Lynn's heart skipped a beat when he realized this.

Can lower-level creatures simulate the structure of witchcraft models?

This was completely beyond his current knowledge.

The structure of any organ or tissue in an ordinary organism is based on the evolution of physiological functions. However, the magical models constructed by wizards are supernatural structures forcibly drawn in the space of consciousness using mental power.

These two things have completely different underlying logics, so how could they both appear in the skull of a low-level burrowing lizard rat?

unless……

A bold idea flashed through Lynn's mind.

This burrowing lizard rat is not a natural creature, or rather, the burrowing lizard rat species is not a natural creature at all.

Their origins likely stemmed from some form of energy pollution, leading to a degree of mutation that evolved into this organizational structure capable of mimicking witchcraft models.

Or perhaps, this creature was actually created by a wizard...

Lynn carefully collected the tissue and sealed it in a glass bottle containing nutrient solution.

Next, to confirm his guess, he carefully examined the burrowing lizard rat's forepaws and limb joints.

Soon, he discovered an extremely fine and soft keratin membrane on the palm of the burrowing lizard rat's forepaw.

That stratum corneum is almost transparent and cannot be seen at all without careful observation. Moreover, its surface is covered with extremely fine sensory nerve endings.

Lynn cut off a small piece of the keratin and examined it under a magnifying glass.

He discovered that the cuticle, when in contact with the soil, could secrete a tiny amount of a special fluid. This fluid could cause the soil at the contact surface to undergo slight deformation and reorganization, thus allowing digging to be carried out without making any obvious noise.

More importantly, this bodily fluid can also release a very weak, disruptive mental fluctuation that can shield lower-level organisms from perceiving their surroundings.

In other words, the reason Lynn was completely unaware of the burrowing lizard rat in the nightmare world was not only because his consciousness was detached from his body, but also because the creature secreted a fluid while digging to shield him from its senses.

"Good heavens!"

Lynn put down the tweezers and looked at the burrowing lizard rat on the worktable, which had been completely dissected, with a gleam of excitement in his eyes.

"A mining capability that can shield one's senses..."

"Although it is weak, it has enormous potential."

Amber flew back from the windowsill and carefully landed on Lynn's shoulder. She glanced at the dark gray tissue in the nutrient solution, then at him, and whispered:

"Lynn...you're not thinking of...using this on yourself, are you?"
