Wizard: I Have a Nightmare World
Chapter 8 Advancement to Herbalist
"Perfect quality?!"
The manager's voice suddenly rose eight octaves, and he jumped up from his chair, staring wide-eyed at the hemostatic medicine on the table.
Inside the crystal bottle, a pale silver halo slowly swirls, and the alluring red liquid gleams with a warm luster under the light. It has no impurities, and its texture is so uniform that it resembles a work of art.
The steward reached out and picked up the crystal bottle, examining it closely. Then he gently pried open the stopper to reveal a crack, sniffed it, and his fingers began to tremble uncontrollably.
"This is truly perfect quality... and it's made with ordinary ingredients!"
"How is this possible?!"
The steward looked up abruptly, his eyes fixed on Lynn, filled with disbelief.
The apprentices around them were in an uproar.
"Perfect quality? Are you kidding me!"
"That's something only a seasoned pharmacist can concoct. How could an apprentice like us possibly make it!"
"Could it have been bought?"
"Are you crazy? A perfect quality hemostatic potion, even if sold officially by the academy, would cost at least thirty gold coins. Which herbalist apprentice could afford that?"
"That's true..."
Lynn ignored the chatter of the apprentices around him, and simply looked calmly at the steward in front of him, waiting for his next move.
The steward took a deep breath, barely suppressing his shock, put down the crystal bottle, and asked Lynn in a very serious tone:
"Lynn, right? Did you personally concoct this potion?"
Under the watchful eyes of everyone, Lynn nodded in agreement.
"That's right, this is what I just prepared and brought to submit for the herbalist apprentice's task."
"If you have any questions, I can repeat it on the spot, or re-encode it."
Upon hearing this, the manager remained silent for a few seconds, his gaze lingering on the perfect quality hemostatic medicine for a few seconds before his eyes lit up.
"Fine! Since you dare to say that, then..."
"etc!"
Before the manager could finish speaking, a slightly high-pitched voice came from inside the apothecary.
Everyone looked in the direction of the sound and saw a fat figure in a black robe stride out of the apothecary. It was Manager Harvey.
Harvey's fat face was all smiles, which widened when he saw the vial of silvery-white potion on the table.
He strode to the table and, as if on a pilgrimage, carefully picked up the crystal bottle and examined it for a long time, his face showing expressions of amazement from time to time. Finally, he took a deep breath and looked at Lynn beside him.
"I never expected that you would bring me such a big surprise in just one day."
Harvey sighed, stared blankly at Lynn for a moment, then suddenly shook his head and chuckled.
"Yesterday I even asked you to sell me the materials to help reduce your debt."
"Looking back now, I was the one who was a bit arrogant."
He put down the crystal bottle, and his gaze toward Lynn held a newfound seriousness and appreciation.
"I haven't seen a hemostatic agent of perfect quality in fifty years."
"Even some experienced herbalists might not be able to concoct this."
"With your abilities, it would be a waste for you to continue as a herbalist apprentice."
Harvey paused to catch his breath, then looked at Lynn very seriously and asked:
"Kid, are you interested in applying to become a herbalist?"
These words caused another uproar among the surrounding apprentices.
Herbalist!
That's a rank higher than a herbalist apprentice!
Once you become a herbalist, you will not only have your own studio, but you can also directly receive materials and tasks from the apothecary. You will no longer have to do odd jobs for others and be subservient to others like a herbalist apprentice.
More importantly, herbalists are qualified to study potions!
Moreover, being a herbalist is the most basic requirement for participating in the potion apprentice assessment in half a month!
Lynn instantly understood Harvey's intention.
He wanted to win him over.
After all, as the manager of the apothecary, it wouldn't be difficult for him to get a bottle of perfect quality hemostatic medicine.
What he values is someone who can create the perfect potion!
Similarly, the reason why all the perfect potions on the market can be so expensive is partly because they are the most effective.
Another reason is because of the owner behind this perfect potion. After all, the strength of someone who can concoct a perfect potion is self-evident.
Lynn looked at Harvey's fat face and asked a question.
"A herbalist? Of course I'm interested."
"But I want to apply to become a herbalist, so what kind of exam do I need to pass?"
Harvey waved his hand when he heard Lynn's question.
"Normally, to become a herbalist from a herbalist apprentice, one needs to complete three different types of potions, and all of them must be of excellent quality or above, in order to qualify as a herbalist."
He paused there, then his gaze shifted from Lynn to the bottle of hemostatic medicine on the table.
"However, being able to concoct a potion of perfect quality is itself proof of strength."
"Therefore, according to the rules of the White Raven Tower Apothecary, anyone who can concoct a potion of perfect quality can be directly granted the status of a herbalist!"
"In fact, there will be some resource allocation later on."
After Harvey finished speaking, he looked at the steward standing behind the table.
"Go and fetch the herbalist's badge and robe."
The manager seemed to snap out of a daze and hurriedly nodded.
"Yes, yes, Supervisor Harvey!"
A short while later, the steward returned carrying a brand-new dark green robe and a silver badge.
The badge depicts a white raven with outstretched wings, holding a herb in its beak.
This is exactly the same herbalist's badge that Lynn saw at Mitchell's.
Harvey took the badge and robe, walked up to Lynn, and solemnly handed them over.
"Lynn, from today onwards, you are a certified herbalist of the White Raven Tower Herbalists Association."
"This perfectly high-quality hemostatic medicine will be recorded in the apothecary's archives as proof of your promotion."
As Lynn received the badge and robe from Harvey, a sense of emotion welled up within him as he looked at these two symbols of his identity.
In just a few days after transmigrating to this extraordinary world, he went from a lowly herbalist apprentice facing a debt crisis to a full-fledged herbalist.
This step was taken faster than he had imagined.
"Thank you, Steward Harvey."
Lynn pinned the badge to his chest and draped the dark green robe over his shoulders.
"If Manager Harvey needs anything in the future, he can contact me."
Harvey smiled when he heard Lynn's words.
He had given the other person his badge as a casual gesture, planting a seed without knowing what would happen.
Now, he has encountered someone who can concoct perfect quality potions using ordinary materials and has become a herbalist with his help. It can be said that this investment of his has been extremely profitable!
"Haha, no problem at all!"
"From now on, if you need any materials or equipment at the apothecary, just come to me, and I'll give you a 20% discount!"
"Also, I'm not in charge, but the manager of the apothecary. You can also call me Harvey."
Harvey stepped forward, patted Lynn on the shoulder, and said...
Lynn agreed and addressed the other person by their name.
As for those unscrupulous business practices from before, the two of them, with their tacit understanding, simply put them out of their minds.
The apprentices around watched this scene with envy and jealousy in their eyes.
But they could only look on, since it was already difficult for them to produce a qualified hemostatic agent, let alone one of perfect quality.
As Lynn became a herbalist, more and more apprentices appeared at the entrance of the apothecary.
Upon seeing this, Harvey immediately invited Lynn into the apothecary workshop for a detailed discussion.
Just before they entered the apothecary, Harvey smiled and looked at the steward in charge of the herbalist apprentices.
"From now on, you won't be in charge of the herbalist apprentice's duties anymore. Instead, you'll be responsible for cleaning the apothecary."
Upon hearing what Harvey said, the manager turned pale.
He realized that his supervisor had discovered the greed that arose when he saw the bottle of perfectly high-quality potion.
His fate was not simply limited to cleaning the pharmacy.
You should know that the apothecary workshop is full of people making potions with different effects, including poisons and strong acids.
Being responsible for cleaning means risking your life to clean, and nobody knows what the effects of the residual medicine on that workbench will be.
"Yes, Supervisor Harvey."
