Nine Netherworld Demon Subduing Record
Chapter 4: The Dark Realm
Fu Qing neither agreed nor disagreed, simply taking it as a young girl's line.
The two did not wait long; after about seven or eight minutes, Chen Xing'an's figure emerged from the mist, and the girl hurriedly went to greet him.
"how?"
Chen Xing'an looked distressed: "There's an array inside. I can't break it with my current cultivation level. I'm afraid I'll need an array master."
After saying that, he changed the subject: "However, we have already calculated the map of this area within a three-mile radius, so we have achieved the purpose of this exploration. Let's go back first and report the situation here." He then looked at Fu Qing: "Young man, why don't you come back with us first? I have some influence at the General Affairs Office, so I'll see if I can help you get home."
"Send them home? You'll release them after you've finished with the extras?" Fu Qing just smiled at his words.
He nodded, and the three of them resumed their previous formation, with Chen Xing'an in front and the girl beside Fu Qing. However, this time they walked much faster, probably because they had already scouted the way. But when they reached the place where Fu Qing had encountered the two of them, the two of them inexplicably took a sharp turn.
"Aren't we going to take the same route we just came from?" Fu Qing asked.
"That area is close to the inner city and extremely dangerous, so let's not go that way for now," the girl explained.
Looking at the road shrouded in thick fog, Fu Qing was somewhat curious, but didn't think much of it and simply followed their "rules of the game."
As the three of them went further, the fog thinned out. After passing a smaller archway than the one they had just seen, the fog dissipated, and the scene before them startled Fu Qing.
He immediately realized that he must have indeed traveled through time.
The earth before him crumbled into pieces, and he was standing on one of those fragments. Each of these fragments was over a hundred miles long. The sun was not visible in the sky, only a circular arc of light, which appeared slightly dim.
The fragments seemed unaffected by gravity. Fu Qing saw that on those fragments were mountains and some buildings, and between the fragments was endless darkness, with starlight twinkling in between.
Fu Qing felt a sinking feeling in his heart. If he had thought this was a reality show, the scene here had completely dispelled his idea. This place was not Earth at all, and it was hard to say whether it was even the universe he originally came from. The existence of these fragments completely violated all the physical laws he knew.
Fu Qing was stunned for a long time before Chen Xing'an patted him on the shoulder.
"Most ordinary people react like you when they see the entire Netherworld for the first time, and I'm no exception. Let's go." After saying that, he walked down on his own. The girl was extremely relaxed as she left the mist, and her steps became lighter.
Fu Qing looked back and saw that he was on the mountainside, which was not very high. Above the mountainside was a thick fog that stretched as far as the eye could see. The city that had just been there was hidden in the fog.
"Can I go back and take another look?" Fu Qing asked, her voice trembling slightly.
He had come to his senses by now, but he still couldn't fully accept the fact that he had traveled through time. He just wanted to go back to the place he had been before and see if he could find any clues that would allow him to return.
"You're not a Taoist master, going there will only lead to your death. You should come back with us first," Bai Yi hurriedly advised when he saw that he was about to do something foolish.
Fu Qing recalled the image of the human-faced spider, and cold sweat poured down his back. The girl was right; he was powerless and, if he encountered that monster again, he would probably die a horrible death.
Seeing that there was no other way, he followed the two. At the foot of the mountain, there were two figures and a huge, bird-like creature, more than five meters tall, covered in white down. When Fu Qing got closer, he realized that the down was feathers, only extremely fine and long. The bird had two pairs of eyes. When it saw Fu Qing and the others arrive, half of its eyes opened at the same time, and its deep blue pupils stared intently at Fu Qing.
Fu Qing felt uneasy under the bird's gaze, but seeing the relaxed demeanor of the others, he knew that the giant bird probably wouldn't hurt anyone. He also didn't feel the same tension he had when he encountered the Black-Faced Ghost before. He began to examine the two people leaning against the giant bird.
The two were a man and a woman. The man looked much older than Chen Xing'an. He had dark skin, disheveled hair, and a somewhat regal air about him, resembling Xie Xun, the Golden Lion King. He looked somewhat like a Central Asian, but he was wearing a long robe with distinct Chinese characteristics. The robe was sleeveless, revealing his strong and muscular arms, which were covered with scars of varying sizes and colors, clearly indicating wounds caused by different objects.
As for the woman beside him, she was quite young. Her hair was divided into two braids that came out from behind her head and hung in front of her chest. She was wearing what looked like a Tibetan robe, with one sleeve tucked under the clothes, revealing her fair arms covered with red ropes.
The two men stared at Fu Qing almost simultaneously. Fu Qing forced a smile, and judging from the situation, the two men were probably also Daoist masters.
The burly man sized Fu Qing up and down, took a slight sniff, and then said, "Oh, another unlucky fellow has accidentally fallen in here."
Fu Qing was inexplicably surprised. Judging from what this older brother was saying, he wasn't the only one who had "accidentally" arrived here; were there other transmigrators as well?
Are there many people like me? Where are they from?
The burly man turned his head, startled. "Where else could they be? People from Xizhao, of course. They're all farmers and farmhands from the surrounding area who accidentally fell into this secluded place. You were lucky to run into Xiao Chen and Xiao Bai! Otherwise, tsk tsk..."
He suddenly changed the subject, asking, "Your attire is rather strange. Where are you from, young man? How did you end up here?"
Fu Qing's eyes darted around. It seemed that most of the people who had stumbled into this place were locals. In that case, his identity as a "transmigrator" was quite special. He quickly weighed the pros and cons in his mind and said, "It's a small place. I don't even know what my place is called. I don't know anything about Xizhao or Qingzhou. I only know that we are called Fu Family Village. I rarely leave the village."
Of course, he made it up on the spot. He still needs to slowly gather information about the current situation. As for this Fu Family Village, if this really is another world, there must be a place called Fu Family Village.
"Having never left the village, that young man knows so many characters; he's truly learned," Bai Yi chuckled.
"I learned to read when I was young, and I recognize most of the characters."
Seeing that no one around him suspected anything, Fu Qing finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Chen Xing'an stepped forward and tugged at the giant bird's feathers, asking, "Is it alright with one more person here?"
The giant bird blinked, and a clear, female voice rang out from its pink beak, though it was extremely loud and echoed slightly: "Don't underestimate me, I'm very strong."
Although Fu Qing was shocked by all of this, he was already used to it and quickly calmed down.
"I've explored this area. There's a formation near the inner ring, but I don't have the ability to break it yet. I can only wait for the formation master to arrive."
The woman beside the man said, "We don't have any special formations here, just some minor monsters."
"Let's go then." Chen Xing'an patted the giant bird, which spread one of its wings. Fu Qing, who was under the wing, felt as if a dark cloud was pressing down on him. He patted the bird down and said, "Come on up."
The Central Asian-looking man jumped onto the wing in one leap, while the others slowly walked up along the wingtips.
"Let's go too," Bai Yi said to Fu Qing, and then got on as well. It was Fu Qing's first time riding in such a flying creature, and he was a little scared, but he still took a step. He walked very lightly, afraid of hurting the giant bird.
Once they were seated on the bird's back, the giant bird stood up. Fu Qing swayed unsteadily, while the others sat as still as old monks in meditation, their bodies barely moving.
"Just grab Ah Xue's feathers," Bai Yi said.
Upon hearing this, Fu Qing grabbed a handful of feathers haphazardly. With this leverage, he was finally less afraid, though he slightly hunched over.
The giant bird slowly flapped its wings, creating a whooshing sound, and then suddenly rose up. Fu Qing felt a strong acceleration coming at him, and the scene in front of him became blurry.
"This mode of transportation is so exciting!" Fu Qing's legs felt a little weak.
However, Fu Qing wasn't so afraid when the acceleration stabilized, because his back was broad enough and he was surrounded by thick feathers. Fu Qing felt relaxed as the bird carried everyone and flew towards the arc of light.
"Where are we flying to?" Fu Qing asked.
"The door." Chen Xing'an's voice came from the front.
"A door?" Fu Qing looked around at the scene, wondering what exactly this door was, or if there was a place called a door.
"I wonder what a door is?" he asked, unable to contain his curiosity.
"This is the entrance to the Netherworld. The entrance opens randomly. Every year, we have to fish out a few people like you who accidentally fall into the Netherworld. Those are considered lucky. Most of them don't even leave behind a complete corpse." The Central Asian man turned his head and said casually.
Fu Qingming realized that everyone must have mistaken him for someone who had been sucked in through the "door." But that was fine; it would save them from suspicion.
"So, what exactly is this secluded realm?"
Surprisingly, the burly man paused for a moment when asked this question, and said, "You're not a Taoist master, so knowing these things is of no use to you."
Chen Xing'an explained, "This is the birthplace of demons."
He paused for a moment and then said, "We also call it—Nine Netherworlds."
