Nine Netherworld Demon Subduing Record

Chapter 5: The Spirit Mechanic

The Nine Netherworlds originally referred to the deepest underground underworld. In more common terms, the Nine Netherworlds generally refers to the underworld. Fu Qing, as a model youth raised under the red flag, did not believe in ghosts and gods, but he was happy to learn about this kind of culture.

But now someone is telling me that I am in the Nine Netherworlds?

"Does the underworld really exist? And it's connected to the human world?"

He recalled the scene he had seen in the foggy city. Although it was deserted, the furnishings were extremely "homely" and did not seem like things that could appear in the underworld.

He wanted to ask some more questions, but before he could speak, Chen Xing'an said, "Just know that this place is very dangerous. If you encounter that gate again in the future, it's best to stay away."

Fu Qing didn't ask any more questions, because she felt that even if she did, they probably wouldn't answer.

He turned his head and glanced behind him again, where the shattered mountains in the distance were filled with swirling mist.

"It seems we can only take it one step at a time and slowly gather information."

Along the way, the group exchanged only a few words, their voices faint, and Fu Qing couldn't hear what they were saying at all. Chen Xing'an hugged his arms tightly, squinted his eyes, and rested. Bai Yi looked around and pointed out some strange scenery on the ground below to Fu Qing. Fu Qing held onto the feathers and dared not move, only showing his head.

Fu Qing himself looked around curiously, but many places in the sky were covered with clouds and mist, obscuring his view, and he could only see a little bit of the sky.

Below were only scattered buildings. The clouds and fog were too thick and the distance was too far for Fu Qing to see clearly. He vaguely felt that the buildings were very old-fashioned and mostly ruins. After flying for about an hour, following the direction Bai Yi pointed, Fu Qing finally saw the location of the "door".

It was a huge rift, like a time rift in a movie, appearing out of nowhere, and golden sunlight shone in, leaving a huge spot of light on the ground.

"It seems that the Nine Netherworlds is just a realm, and the real world is beyond that gate, or is that gate itself a teleportation portal that just sends us to other places?" Fu Qing secretly speculated.

Seeing this, the giant bird began to slow down and fly downwards. On either side of the crevice, there was a person standing guard. They were dressed identically in gray robes and looked to be about fifteen years old, but their eyes were resolute as they stared at Fu Qing and his group.

The giant bird landed, and after everyone disembarked, the bird glowed and slowly shrank, eventually transforming into the appearance of a young girl. The girl was dressed in white with white hair, and her appearance was beautiful and otherworldly. However, there were two marks on her forehead, which looked like closed eyes. Her hands were covered with white hair, making her look exactly like an orc.

"What is this? An orc?" Fu Qing glanced at the girl sideways, his heart filled with shock.

Seeing Fu Qing looking at her, she smiled, revealing two deep dimples, and then her expression quickly calmed down.

As the crowd approached, the two guards in front of the rift stepped forward, clasped their hands in a fist salute, and bowed slightly in respect.

Bai Yi and the woman in the Tibetan robe beside him stepped forward, each taking out an object. Fu Qing saw that it was the map that the two had just drawn. The two took it, then parted ways and made a gesture of invitation. The group walked straight past the two and out of the rift.

Fu Qing followed at the back. When he reached the two people, they resumed their standing posture and looked at him with strange, curious eyes. Fu Qing just nodded awkwardly at them and then stepped forward.

The moment he passed through the rift, Fu Qing closed his eyes.

Blindingly bright! This was Fu Qing's first impression upon emerging from the darkness. The sun hung high in the sky, flanked by withered tree branches and scorched earth stretching for nearly a hundred meters. Surrounded by lush, verdant mountains, everything resembled the landscape of Earth.

Once his vision returned, he took a deep breath, feeling refreshed and relieved. He had been worried that the other world might be as strange as the "Netherworld" he had just experienced, but it turned out to be exactly the same as Earth.

Behind them was the same rift, and two gray-robed figures stood to the side, but these two only bowed slightly to them and did not make any other movements.

The Central Asian man at the front turned around and said, "Everyone, the mission is complete, I'll head back now." Then he pointed at Chen Xing'an and said, "You owe me a favor, kid. Don't forget to buy me a drink when you get back."

Chen Xing'an patted the bundle containing the black-faced demon's eyeball and mantis limbs on his back and smiled slightly, saying, "Once I've dealt with these, I'll definitely come to invite you."

The man nodded and beckoned to the woman in the Tibetan robe. The woman took out a wooden box from her sleeve, opened it, and a beam of light shot out. Fu Qing felt as if a shadow had darted out of the box and slowly grown larger on the ground. With a series of clicking sounds, Fu Qing felt as if he were watching a scene from the movie "Transformers" where the Autobots were transforming. The object quickly transformed into a mechanical beast, its golden armor gleaming dazzlingly in the sunlight, like the shimmering light on a clear lake.

This mechanical beast has no face; its face is made up of two pieces of iron armor. Although it has no eyes, Fu Qing could still sense that the mechanical beast seemed to have glanced in his direction.

The man helped the woman in the Tibetan robe onto the back of the mechanical beast, then climbed on himself. He waved goodbye to everyone, and the mechanical beast reared up on its two front hooves and then darted away in a single stride, quickly disappearing into the distant forest.

At this moment, Fu Qing felt as if he had been struck by lightning.

"Wow... this is too sci-fi."

He initially thought he had traveled to an ancient-like place based on everyone's clothing, but seeing this scene, he realized that his imagination of other worlds was still too limited to martial arts dramas.

He originally thought it was the Ming Dynasty, but it was actually cyberpunk.

Bai Yi walked up to the girl in white and said, "Ah Xue, we'll have to trouble you to give us a ride from here."

The orc girl named Xue smiled, revealing her dimples and fangs, and said, "It's nothing, we're just going the same way anyway."

Chen Xing'an nodded, then looked at Fu Qing and said, "Brother Fu Qing, since you don't have anywhere to go right now, why don't you come back to the city with us? I'll ask the General Affairs Office to help you, and you can go back as soon as possible."

"Thank you all very much then," Fu Qing nodded.

Seeing that Fu Qing had agreed, Chen Xing'an said to the two gray-robed men guarding the door, "The mission is complete. You can both go back now."

"Yes, senior brother." The two spoke at the same time.

The girl in white transformed into a giant bird once more, and Fu Qing and the others boarded it. This time, however, Fu Qing appeared much more composed. Once they were airborne, Fu Qing asked, "Master Chen, was the person who controlled that mechanical beast also a Daoist?"

Chen Xing'an nodded and corrected, "Those aren't mechanical beasts, we call them spirit beasts. Azi is a spirit master."

Upon hearing the name "Spiritual Mechanic," Fu Qing knew that this Daoist must be related to mechanics.

"So what are your and Master Bai's professions?"

"Occupation?" Chen Xing'an was taken aback.

Fu Qing immediately realized that he had been applying the game's class system to their abilities, so he quickly corrected himself, asking, "What are the names of your abilities?"

Chen Xing'an smiled slightly: "I am a talisman master, and Bai Yi is a spirit medicine master."

Fu Qing seemed to understand something. He recalled that when he used his ability earlier, he also used that small wooden talisman. However, Fu Qing could only guess from the name that this spirit alchemist might be a nurse or similar profession.

After some deliberation, he finally asked the question he most wanted to ask: "If I also want to become a Taoist master, what should I do?"
