From Alchemy Apprentice to All-Powerful God King
Chapter 3 Demon Insect Refining: Exploding Insects
"What the hell?!"
Matthew saw the insects bursting out of the coffin and immediately retreated backward, drawing his crowbar at the same time.
The creature flapped its wings, its sound echoing throughout the mass grave, while a gunpowder smell filled the air. It was not large, but it moved very fast.
Matthew had no time to react and instinctively swung the crowbar in his hand, smashing it forward.
"Thump!"
With a muffled thud, the crowbar struck the bullseye, knocking the charging insect aside.
The reddish-black worm fell back into the coffin, as if it had been knocked unconscious. It thrashed around inside until it lay on the ground, its four thin limbs twitching, before finally becoming completely still.
Matthew, gripping the crowbar, his forehead covered in cold sweat, cautiously approached to assess the situation.
"This is... a demonic insect?"
Matthew stared in disbelief at the insects in the coffin.
It was shaped like a ladybug and about the size of his fist.
Its carapace was covered with red stripes, making it look like a bomb that could be detonated at any moment from a distance.
Its head was as big as half its body, and it had a mouthful of sharp teeth.
"It really is a demonic insect, sigh... what a pity."
Wild demonic insects are different from those crafted by alchemists; they are not docile towards humans.
Like this one, it wanted to rush into Matthew's head as soon as it met him.
At the same time, the sound of pages turning echoed again in Matthew's mind's record of another world.
[Demon insect detected - New recipe captured]
[Bomb Bug Lv.1: The user will be modified, and any part of their body can explode; the greater the friction, the greater the power!]
Do not use frequently, otherwise it will cause mental and physical strain.
[Materials detected. Activate the alchemy station to begin crafting immediately?]
Matthew was stunned as he looked at the hints and new recipe in the booklet in his mind. This was a magic insect recipe that even the guild didn't have!
"Bomb bug? This is... an upgraded version of the suicide bug, the real magic bug recipe?"
"So that's how the recipe was obtained."
Matthew looked at the new recipe and found that the materials for this bomb bug were almost identical to those for the self-destructing bugs they were making.
The only difference is the refining steps and methods.
But I don't have magic power, so how can I refine it? And what exactly is an alchemy platform?
Just as Matthew was wondering, a gray mist surged from his palm and then gathered in front of him to form a stone platform about half the size of a person.
An inexplicable energy formed a gray mist that swirled above.
"Hmm? This is an alchemy platform?"
Matthew approached and gently touched the stone, discovering that it resonated with him.
The next moment, a surge of magic power rushed into Matthew's body. At this moment, Matthew felt as if he had gained enlightenment. Not only was his vision clear, but his mental energy was also more abundant than ever before.
But the feeling vanished instantly when he let go.
"I see, no wonder you reminded me that I had all the materials I needed to craft it."
Matthew surveyed his surroundings; there was no one around, so it was safe.
He then took out all the materials he had with him and, following the recipe steps for the bomb bug, began to put them in.
But at the last step, his hand froze in mid-air.
"How can you refine it without insect eggs?"
Today, while crafting the self-destructing bugs, he used up all the bug eggs the guild gave him, leaving not a single one...
Just as Matthew was at his wit's end, his gaze fell on the coffin next to him. He then quickly walked over and began rummaging through the broken bones.
"As expected!"
Deep inside the coffin were several unhatched insect eggs, some of which had already emerged from their cocoons, but only some remains of limbs remained nearby.
It seems that this bomb bug has taken over the nest and is eating the newly hatched larvae.
Matthew quickly collected the remaining insect eggs.
"You're lucky I stumbled upon you, otherwise you probably wouldn't have survived."
After checking to make sure no eggs escaped, Matthew returned to the alchemy table and selected the strongest-looking egg, throwing it inside.
The next moment, he manipulated magic to accelerate the hatching of the insect eggs.
With the blessing of the gray mist, two tentacles suddenly burst out of the cocoon, and then a plump little worm crawled out and began to suck up the juice fused by magic.
After eating and drinking to their hearts' content, the gray mist surged and instantly enveloped the demonic insect, forming something resembling a silkworm cocoon. Then, a large amount of magical power poured in, causing the demonic insect to writhe violently.
A new notification has appeared in the Chronicles of Another World.
[Bomb Bug lv.1]
Alchemy Maniac Lv.1: Experience Points 200/2000
At the same time, the demonic insect on the alchemy platform emerged from its cocoon. After a moment of confusion, it flew to Matthew's hand and affectionately rubbed its head against his fingers.
"It seems that refining a first-tier magical insect will also grant more experience points."
Matthew was pleasantly surprised, looking at the bomb bug in his hand, and couldn't wait to get it.
After biting his finger to squeeze out blood to feed the demon worms, he swallowed them directly into his mouth.
Although he had never eaten pork, he had seen pigs run. In his memory, he had already memorized the method of refining demonic insects.
As the demonic worm entered his mouth, it quickly burrowed into his heart. At the same time, a stinging and numbing sensation spread throughout his body, but he did not stop and continued to control the demonic worm to go deeper.
This is a necessary process.
When the demonic insect reached the very center of the heart, its limbs instantly pierced into the flesh and connected with it.
The next moment, a surge of magic power flowed into Matthew's body and began to nourish him.
As his magic power increased, the feeling of touching the alchemy table returned, but this time, it wouldn't disappear.
Even ten minutes later, when it was all over, Matthew was still savoring the moment.
A gentle rubbing of two fingers can instantly ignite sparks; a little more force would likely cause a small-scale explosion.
Of course, as long as he doesn't want to, no amount of friction will cause an explosion, because the ability can only be used when magic is injected.
"Is this what it feels like to be an ability user?"
Matthew examined his body and found no mutations. He was very satisfied with his current abilities, but he didn't know how strong they were.
The alchemy platform turned back into gray mist and flowed into his body. Matthew squatted down and picked up the demonic insect that was already dead beyond any hope of survival, his face full of regret.
"If it were alive, it could fetch at least fifty gold coins at those jade gambling sites."
Matthew shook his head and put it away. Even in death, it had its value, just not that high.
They then removed all the broken bones from the coffin, stuffed the apprentice's body inside, and finally buried it completely underground.
Just as Matthew got up to leave.
The sound of pages turning in the Chronicles of Another World echoed in my mind once more.
At the same time, a new notification appears.
[Activate a new label - Do one good deed every day]
[Do one good deed a day: Let the world feel your kindness, and the world will reward you with good fortune.]
[You can improve your luck by actively doing any good deed every day. There are no thresholds for doing good deeds, and they can be big or small. Every little good deed can be accumulated.]
The better your luck, the more fortunate you become; the more fortunate you become, the more fortunate you become.
"Hmm...you can do it like that?"
Matthew was somewhat surprised as he looked at the prompts on the Otherworldly Record and the new label that popped up above his head.
Unexpectedly, his casual act of kindness brought him unexpected gains. But doing a good deed every day sounds simple, but it's not so easy to actually do it.
"Never mind, it was unintentional anyway," Matthew shook his head, glancing at the now completely dark sky. "Let's go back to town first."
