From humble beginnings to the pinnacle of life

Chapter 10 All people suffer, and are not in control of their own lives.

The world of the rich is indeed different from that of us ordinary folks.

In the lower rungs of my social circle, infidelity is a stain that everyone despises.

In the elite circles of the upper class, where interests come first, humanity and bottom lines can be compromised at will.

People at the bottom of society have enough to eat and wear, but their survival is not entirely their own. Children of wealthy families are bound by their families and have no choice in what they do.

Everyone is bound by shackles; all beings suffer.

After a long silence, I slowly began to speak:

"So you came to me not just to spite Fang Heng, but also to use me as a shield against your parents' arranged marriage?"

Su Qing nodded without hesitation: "I don't want to live my whole life according to my family's arrangements, and I don't want to marry a piece of trash with a messy private life and a vicious heart."

"As long as I can get through this month and convince everyone in the industry and my parents that I am determined to sever all ties with Fang Heng and that I have someone I have chosen, this marriage will be completely off the table."

I looked at her and softly asked, "Even if I'm just a food delivery person, and have nothing?"

"Even if you're a beggar, as long as it's my own choice, it's a million times better than anything they force upon me."

I stared at her for several seconds.

This woman is bold in her actions and indeed has a stubborn and crazy personality.

But that tenacious spirit of not giving up and refusing to admit defeat is actually somewhat similar to mine when I was struggling to make a living at the bottom of society.

I sighed softly: "Aren't you afraid I won't be able to handle it? Fang Heng is just the obvious trouble; the pressure from your parents will only be more difficult to deal with."

Su Qing smiled faintly upon hearing this and said frankly, "That's why I gave you a reward of 200,000. This money is not only your acting fee, but also compensation for the risks I took on for you."

I nodded and said no more.

Now that things have come to this point, saying anything more would be pretentious.

I didn't say anything the whole way, my mind was constantly thinking about what to do next.

Fang Heng was publicly humiliated tonight, and he will absolutely not let it go. He will use all his resources to retaliate fiercely.

And Su's parents will probably come knocking on our door soon.

The next month is destined to be full of turmoil; I can forget about having a single day of peace.

But I'm already used to it.

I've never had a good life since I was a child.

Earning 200,000 yuan is not easy.

In my silence, Su Qing suddenly asked again, "Do you know why I contacted you?"

I snapped out of my reverie and casually replied, "Is it because I dared to confront Fang Heng in public last night?"

Su Qing gently shook her head, a hint of appreciation in her eyes: "That's just one aspect. More importantly, you have more backbone than most men I've met in this circle."

I gazed at the bustling street scene rushing past the window, its lights gleaming, yet none of it belonged to me, and I couldn't help but give a self-deprecating smile:

"I have no money, no power, and nothing at all. If I lose even this last bit of backbone, then I will truly be utterly worthless."

"That's the spirit I have. All those rich kids in my circle are sycophants, so fake it's disgusting. Only you, despite being from the bottom, are not humble, and you're a million times more pleasing to the eye than them."

The car sped along, quickly leaving the bustling city center and turning into narrow, old alleyways in the urban village.

The neon lights and extravagance outside the window vanished instantly, replaced by dim streetlights, old and low houses, and mottled walls.

The extreme gap between the rich and poor is both glaring and real.

The red Mercedes sports car stopped downstairs in front of the building where my cousin and I live.

I was immediately puzzled and asked, "How did you know I lived here?"

"I told you, I had people following you, though not right now."

I shrugged and said to her, "Thanks, and also for getting the company to remove the customer's bad review this morning."

Su Qing turned to look at me and solemnly instructed me:

"None of that matters. What matters is tonight's party; it's just the beginning."

"Fang Heng is ruthless and holds grudges. He won't be able to argue with you anymore; he'll only resort to underhanded tactics behind your back. You must be extra careful."

"I know." I nodded emphatically, opened the car door, and got out.

Watching Su Qing turn and leave, disappearing into the night, I stood there quietly for two seconds.

After gathering my thoughts, I turned and walked into the building's stairwell.

As soon as I arrived at the door, I heard a loud argument coming from inside.

My cousin usually hasn't finished work and come back by this time, why is he back so early?

And who was he arguing with?

I walked in quickly, and as soon as I entered, I saw the landlord blocking the room.

The landlord, with a cold expression, waved his hand dismissively, his attitude extremely forceful:

"Stop talking nonsense, I'm not renting this place anymore! You need to move out right now, and I'll refund the remaining rent and deposit in full!"

"Our rent isn't due yet, we haven't defaulted on any payments, and we haven't damaged the house. You have to give us a reasonable explanation!" My cousin tried to reason with us.

"No reason needed, if you're not renting, you're not renting! Move out now!"

I instantly understood what was going on.

When my cousin saw me come back, he immediately called out to me, "Yezi, it's good that you're back. The landlord suddenly said he's not renting it to me anymore, without any reason. Can you explain?"

Before I could even speak, the landlord said coldly, "What's there to say? It's no use who comes. I said I don't want to rent anymore, and that's final."

I didn't say a word to the landlord because I knew exactly what was going on.

There's no reason for it; this is simply another of Fang Heng's doing.

He was determined to drive me to the brink of despair, cutting off my job, forcing me to move, and leaving me with absolutely no place to stand in this city.

"Alright, cousin, they're not renting it anymore, let's move in."

"But it's so late now, and we have nowhere to go!" my cousin said anxiously.

"Let's go to the hotel first."

My cousin was trembling with anger, his eyes filled with resentment as he said, "This is outrageous! It's absolutely unjust!"

A profound sense of guilt surged within me.

I don't care about my own life of wandering, but I've dragged down my cousin who was truly kind to me, making him suffer these undeserved calamities because of me.

My voice was hoarse, and I was filled with guilt: "Brother, I'm sorry, I've dragged you into this."

My cousin waved his hand, both angry and helpless: "Stop talking nonsense, let's find a hotel to stay in for the night."

We quickly packed our two large woven bags of luggage and found the cheapest little hotel nearby to stay in temporarily.

After settling in, I looked at my cousin and said solemnly:

"Brother, I'll handle everything from now on myself. You focus on making money and don't get involved anymore. Don't let me drag you down with you."

My cousin immediately panicked, his brow furrowing: "How are you going to handle this alone? They have power and influence; a direct confrontation is like throwing an egg against a rock!"

He paused for a moment, then said, "If all else fails, let's just go back to our hometown!"

I still firmly shook my head.

Returning to my hometown, all that awaited me was endless poverty and confinement.

With no money to pay for my mother's medicine, I'll be trapped in this poor mountain village for the rest of my life, with no hope of ever getting ahead.

After settling my cousin in, I walked out of the stuffy little hotel alone.

Fang Heng thought that by cutting off my job and making me homeless, he could force me to beg for mercy.

He was completely wrong.

Since he insists on playing with me, I'll play along to the end!

I lit a cigarette for myself and said in a deep voice:

"Brother, since other sites don't want me, I'm planning to do it myself."
