From humble beginnings to the pinnacle of life
Chapter 81 Headquarters Summoning
I wouldn't dare say that all this good luck was earned by the knife wound I suffered that day.
But I know that this achievement is the result of countless early mornings and late nights that I and all my brothers worked so hard to achieve.
The ability to turn the tide in a short period of time is never simply due to luck.
My strict rule is that no matter how high the floor or whether there is an elevator, I will always pick up and deliver the package to your door.
All staff wear uniforms, provide courteous service, and are available 24/7 for after-sales support.
Over time, almost all the residents and businesses in the area have come to recognize our station.
Whenever they need to send or receive packages, we're the first person they think of.
We are a group of ordinary people struggling at the bottom of society, without any background or connections. It is through our collective efforts that we have achieved this kind of synergy.
I never mistreat my brothers; I never deduct a penny from their wages, and I always keep them on hand for cooling drinks and medicine when the weather is hot.
I promised Mr. Gao that I would make it a benchmark within a month, and I have accomplished that.
That afternoon, I had just finished my work when my phone suddenly rang. The caller ID showed it was General Manager Gao from headquarters.
I quickly answered the phone, and Mr. Gao's voice came through, concise and direct:
"Lin Ye, come to headquarters. There are some things I need to discuss with you in person."
I didn't think much of it; I just assumed it was a recognition of my work and a way to coordinate future cooperation with other areas, so I casually agreed.
When I arrived at the courier headquarters building by taxi, I had just entered the lobby on the first floor when I saw a female secretary dressed in a smart business suit quickly come to greet me.
She was polite and courteous, with a standard professional smile on her face, and spoke softly:
"Hello Mr. Lin, I am Mr. Gao's secretary. He has an urgent meeting and you may need to wait a moment. He specifically instructed me to take you to his office to wait."
I nodded politely and replied with a smile, "Thank you for coming down to pick me up."
She smiled faintly, didn't chat much, and led me through the spacious office area, straight to the office of the Marketing Operations Director.
Pushing open the office door, you'll find a spacious and elegant environment, exuding the calm and composed aura of a high-level workplace.
Before I could even sit down, she turned around and went to the tea room with great enthusiasm, quickly bringing me a glass of iced cola that was steaming cold.
Her tone remained gentle and polite: "Please sit down and rest for a while. Mr. Gao has arranged for me to coordinate a few work matters with you."
I reached out and took the Coke, thanked them, and sat down on the sofa.
I didn't think much of it at first, just treating it as a routine work coordination.
But the next second, the secretary's words made me freeze.
She stood opposite me and said calmly, "Mr. Lin, the headquarters is preparing to expand and upgrade its business in the western part of the city. General Manager Gao said that you have laid a very good foundation for the business in the area."
"Next, your West City station will be taken over by personnel directly from headquarters. There are a few handover documents that you will need to sign and confirm later."
The sip of cola I had just taken a sip of instantly got stuck in my throat, and I almost choked and spat it out.
I slammed down my cup and asked incredulously, "What do you mean by that? What do you mean by headquarters taking over?"
Despite my loss of composure, the secretary's smile remained unchanged: "This is part of the headquarters' overall plan. The expansion of the western city area is a pilot project. You are the first to make the area's service renowned. General Manager Gao has been praising you for making a good start."
I can't tell if those words are good or bad.
Because she always had a smile on her face and seemed particularly polite.
I quickly pressed on, "What about my courier station? What about the station I worked so hard to build?"
"Naturally, you will no longer be the agent for its operation. The headquarters will take over, expand the overall scale and upgrade services, and centrally manage the business in the region."
These words made me unable to sit still, and I suddenly stood up from the sofa.
"No! It was General Manager Gao who personally agreed with me, giving me a month to make the station a benchmark in the western part of the city!"
"I've worked myself to the bone for over half a month, and our order volume, reputation, and service ratings have all soared to the top in the region. And now you're just going to take it all away with a single sentence?"
Faced with my angry questioning, the secretary remained calm and said, "I know, Mr. Gao knows you have done an excellent job, so headquarters will not treat you unfairly."
"I don't need your verbal promises of not mistreating me!"
I waved my hand dismissively and said coldly, "I want to see General Manager Gao in person. He has to tell me this to my face!"
The secretary nodded slightly, her attitude remaining polite: "I understand how you feel, but President Gao's meeting isn't over yet. However, I need to explain the work he assigned me to you first."
"If you have anything else to say, say it all at once."
She turned and walked to her desk, picked up a stack of printed documents, quickly walked back to me, and handed them to me.
"This is the official agreement for the return of the Chengxi Express Station to the headquarters for unified operation. Please take a look."
I grabbed the file and quickly flipped through it.
Just a few lines of text made my blood pressure spike instantly.
This was actually an official document stamped with the headquarters' bright red seal, possessing full legal effect.
The document clearly states that I am merely a temporary agent authorized by headquarters, and headquarters has the right to unconditionally reclaim the operation rights of the site at any time without prior consent from the agent.
To put it bluntly, I'm just a free tool for clearing out the land!
Once I've turned the wasteland into fertile fields and transformed the mess into a model, headquarters will reap the rewards and kick me aside!
My temper flared immediately: "Such a big matter, why didn't headquarters give us any prior notice? Why did they make a decision unilaterally?"
The secretary smiled and said calmly, "Mr. Lin, you are just a regional agent. The headquarters' strategic decisions do not require the opinions of agents. You just need to execute them."
After hearing this, I felt utterly absurd and couldn't help but sneer: "I've put in so much effort to revitalize a rotten market and turn it into a benchmark, and you just take it all away with a single official document? Is this how your headquarters operates?"
She stopped talking, seemingly having run out of patience with me.
I completely lost it, my anger reaching its peak: "I don't care about headquarters decisions! I need to see General Manager Gao right now! Wherever he's having a meeting, I'm coming there immediately!"
"Please calm down. You will definitely not be able to see General Manager Gao right now. Let me finish what I have to say."
The secretary's tone turned noticeably colder, losing its previous gentle politeness and becoming somewhat impatient.
I suppressed my anger and stared at her in silence.
Seeing that I had stopped arguing, she softened her tone slightly: "General Manager Gao, considering your significant contribution this time, specially secured this opportunity for you. After the West City station is taken back, headquarters can assign you a completely new, blank area so you can start from scratch."
I let out another cold laugh after hearing that: "Reassigning to a new area?"
"I've worked so hard to develop this area in the west of the city into a mature market, and it was just starting to generate stable profits, and now you're taking away all my hard work and making me start from scratch in an unfamiliar, undeveloped area? Isn't this just treating me like an idiot and exploiting me?"
