Wizard: Starting with Symbiosis with Algae

Chapter 40 The Battle on the River and the Man in the Barrel

Lynn pulled on the reins and tightened the worm.

The vehicle was moving slowly but steadily through the river, but that wasn't what he needed to worry about right now.

The flying sticks were coming, and they were in the river—that was the key point. Fighting in the river, if the vehicle tilted, he would definitely survive, but rescue would be impossible.

It will be postponed for a few days. By then, the person will definitely be dead.

"There are others in other places as well."

"Where?" Lynn asked.

"Up there," Ruby looked up, "on the roof."

Lynn bent her neck and looked up.

In the rain, there were at least three flying sticks on the cliff face.

Their bodies shimmered, and they looked somewhat dazed from the rain, moving slowly.

But their electric lights grew brighter and brighter, poised to strike.

This shows that they didn't get lost and stop here; their target was Lynn and his companion.

Lynn didn't give them a chance to wait.

The boat was about 6 meters from the riverbank. There was a vertical crack in the rock wall, and a triangular rock protruded from the edge of the crack, just big enough for a vine to wrap around and get stuck.

"Entwined by vines."

The simple, unadorned entwining of vines is also a kind of enjoyment.

It uses little magic, doesn't glow, hooks into the gap in half a second, and then quickly tightens its grip.

He peeked out and glanced towards the rock face.

"It's stable now."

After speaking, Lynn released his hand from the vines while maintaining the flow of magic. The ship slowly approached the rock wall.

Ruby was already in battle mode, using her coldness to control the throbbing flying rods on the riverbank, preventing them from getting close or attacking the worms directly.

Lynn then began manipulating the throwing stick, directly attacking enemies in the distance.

Lynn, controlling number one, used a blitzkrieg to strike the flying stick in the upper left corner, the one in the worst condition.

It employs the simplest attack method: ramming. With such a large speed difference, no other strategy is needed.

As for the second flying stick...

"Number Two, provide cover around the vehicle. Attack any enemies that can affect its movement."

The second flying rod lowered its flight altitude and patrolled a range of three to five meters around the worm vehicle.

Ruby then put some ice on the car.

The current was stronger than before; another wave of ice shards and mud had probably rushed down from upstream.

She probably felt that the stability of the vines alone was not enough.

She placed her hands on the metal beams of the carriage, squatted down, took out a packet of soft worm hairs from her robe, moistened them, stuck them to the stone, and then used magic to freeze them, connecting the stone and the boat.

"That should be enough."

Ruby dusted the ice off her hands and stood up again.

Two wild flying rods were also hovering in the air.

Having witnessed their kind being instantly killed, their aggressiveness has noticeably increased.

But they no longer approach actively; instead, they circle above the river.

They are actively seeking out their kind who have just been killed.

Compared to fighting Lynn and his group, the most cost-effective method is to take a little risk and fish out some delicious companions from the bottom of the river.

..

Not all flying sticks think this way, but it greatly relieved Lynn's pressure.

After several rounds, both No. 1 and No. 2 suffered almost no damage.

The last two flying sticks happened to be within Lynn's attack range.

Lynn then stretched out his vines.

This time he aimed at the wild flying stick that was positioned higher up.

The moment the flying stick sensed the restraint, it immediately began to struggle violently, frantically vibrating its cilia in an attempt to break free of the vines with explosive force.

But Lynn's vines were now chilling, and the more he struggled, the weaker he became. Within five seconds, the wriggling frequency of the flying stick dropped from forty times per second to single digits, and then stopped completely. He dragged the frozen flying stick back and casually swung out a second vine. The other wild flying stick was dodging Number Two's pursuit and was completely unaware of the vine attacking from the side.

It was even stunned for a moment when it got entangled, incredulous, before it was dragged over as well.

Two wild flying sticks were tied together by vines and could not move.

It's a good thing to be in pairs.

It's not shameful to be captured together.

Lynn dragged them onto the frame, pressed down on the head of one of them with one hand, and at the same time pulled out a small tin sword from his waist and used the tip of the sword to make a small cut in his palm.

He clenched his fist, letting the blood drip from between his fingers, drop by drop, onto the mouthparts of the flying stick.

Poisoning, weakness, and loss of resistance.

A dozen minutes later, the two wild flying sticks were completely subdued.

Their bodies relaxed from stiffness, and their mouthparts ceased making aggressive biting movements.

[Whether they coexist]

Lynn silently recited it in his heart.

Symbiosis, without any hesitation.

A connection was thus established between Lynn and Flying Stick.

Lynn retracted the vines and put them into the insulated box in the back of the car.

The two new members need to take a nap and warm up, then they will be just as obedient as Number One and Number Two.

Ruby watched Lynn's entire operation without saying a word.

It's just a little secret. Wizards have many secrets. Do we have to investigate them one by one?

Moreover, Lynn is a reliable comrade-in-arms from any perspective.

Lynn shook off the remaining blood droplets from her hands; the wound had already begun to heal on its own.

The battle ended, and Ruby rekindled the flame at her fingertips, partly for warmth and partly for vigilance, her gaze fixed intently on the distance.

"Let's go, the signal is coming soon."

The river was filled again by the sound of worms wriggling.

The vines untied, the ice shattered, and the vehicle slowly detached from its anchor point along the edge of the rock face, continuing its journey upstream.

..

The day passed just like that.

The two people were getting closer and closer to the red dot.

At noon, there seemed to be movement on the distant cliff face again.

The two, who were in a state of tension, ate two packets of powder and quickly put away the food.

To their surprise, what flew at them was not a flying stick, but a wooden bucket.

What kind of aggressiveness does a wooden barrel possess?

Lynn breathed a sigh of relief and asked Ruby...

"What is this?"

"Probably a wooden barrel?"

"I know."

But when the bucket changed, the two realized they were wrong.

There were two holes punched out of the rim of the bucket with a blunt object, and two legs were sticking out from them.

The two legs immediately began to paddle rapidly, using the knee joints as a base, like propellers. The movements were surprisingly coordinated, and the force was generated in a very even and rapid manner.

Could it be a monster similar to a mimicry species, like a mimicry monster?

Ruby was stunned for a moment. It wasn't her fault; the scene before her was too bizarre.

A wooden bucket, two holes, and a pair of legs paddling in the water.

The bucket is drifting downstream, and the worm-like vehicle moving upstream is approaching it.

The rain was still falling, the water surface was covered with broken ice, and distant lightning occasionally illuminated the dark clouds.

And in the center of all this, there was a human-shaped... thing, nestled in a bucket, paddling with its legs.

Lynn's second reaction was also one of vigilance.

He wasn't sure what it was.

It could be a monster, some kind of local creature he'd never seen before, or perhaps his imagination was simply too limited to find a suitable category for it.

And then a head popped out of the wooden barrel.

"Ruby! Lynn! Here! I'm here. I have a way to restore the cell tower's communication."

"Help me!"

He raised his thigh and shouted at the two of them:

"I have a way to call homeworld! Save me!"
