I'm really not a dragon.

Chapter 5 Become a Pioneer

"The climate of Thurte is warm, which is indeed suitable for cotton crops. However, your main tasks are to establish colonial estates, drive away wild beasts, mine precious magical minerals, and excavate ancient ruins..."

The warden began to recount the story in detail.

In his words, being a pioneer seemed to be a rather glorious job.

The northern barbarians and dwarves were a bit confused; they weren't native to Baldur's Gate and had no idea how deep the waters of the colony ran.

The northern barbarian asked excitedly, "Warden, my uncle is the captain of the Flame Fist Mercenary Group and earns 500 dragon gold coins a month. How much will we earn as pioneers?"

The warden frowned, gently raised his chin, and spoke with a tone that was three parts contempt and seven parts disdain.

"It is your blessing to work for the Lords' Alliance. As pioneers, your names will be written into history. Isn't that enough?"

That tone is so classic.

Suen was starting to lose his composure. As a native of Baldur's Gate, he knew a little bit about the inside story.

The Churt Peninsula, separated from Baldur's Gate by two seas, is still in a tribal civilization, but its inhabitants are truly formidable warriors.

Indigenous warriors fight on dinosaurs, and tribal shamans perform dances that summon a multitude of wild spirits.

In contrast, the so-called pioneers were just a rabble of thugs, criminals, and low-level adventurers. They were so poor that they couldn't even afford armor, and having a tetanus blade was considered high-end.

It's fair to say that establishing a colony is a hellish challenge from the very beginning!

The colony governor, who had suffered repeated defeats and was even in a daze, proposed to the four Dukes of Baldur's Gate that they abolish parliamentary democracy and embrace advanced slavery in order to have enough manpower to develop the colony.

Of course, this suggestion was later rejected by the Sword Bay MPs.

Upon hearing this, the dwarf gasped in shock and exclaimed incredulously, "They won't even give us money? What's the difference between us and slaves?"

"Actually, there is a difference; slaves lived longer than pioneers..."

Suen interjected, and unsurprisingly, the dwarf's expression turned extremely grim.

He turned to the warden: "Sir, by what right are we the murderers? Aren't there innocent people among us? If there is even one innocent person, shouldn't a righteous person draw their sword for them? Isn't that the creed of the paladins?"

Outside the corridor, two law enforcement officers looked at the warden with complicated expressions.

The warden scrutinized Su En with a critical eye and slowly said:

"It's very simple! Each of you has secrets. The sorcerer cannot judge your inclinations towards good or evil, much less foresee your extraordinary destiny."

He raised his finger and pointed to the corner.

"Conan, the wandering knight of the North, you were born in the war dedicated to the God of War, and your destiny, and that of your people, flows with the roar of the God of War!"

A complex sigh came from next door.

The warden pointed his finger at the dwarf again, "And you, Brian Goldbeard, Scrivenerable wizard, your father was an evil grey dwarf, your mother a gold dwarf, your fate has long been cursed by the dwarven gods!"

The dwarf spat and said disdainfully, "I am neither a citizen of the mountains nor a citizen of the dark lands, and I do not acknowledge either of them."

The warden's finger reached out to the last person.

Suen looked at him, a hint of expectation in her eyes.

The warden was silent for a moment, then quietly retracted his fingers and coughed twice.

"?" Suen.

No, can't you find patterns? Keep praising me!

"Well, in short, I can't determine if you're the murderers, nor can I prove you aren't, so the best solution is to get you away from here!"

Justice sometimes requires making choices, and unfortunately, Su En and his companions were chosen as the ones to be sacrificed.

Suen's two fellow inmates were really worried.

The northern barbarians pounded their fists against the adamantite gate, roaring in fury.

"Even children who can't lift a weapon know that judgment must be conducted under the gaze of the ancestors. You, you will all be ridiculed by the ancestors!"

The dwarf uttered a vicious curse:

"You bastards without eggs, you will pay the price for your arrogance."

Suen gripped the window bars, her face squeezed through the gap, and quickly spoke:

"Is there some mistake, Your Excellency Warden? Others may have problems, but I'm truly innocent. Duke Adrian brought me in, and I have a very close relationship with his daughter!"

Artorias looked at Suen strangely, as if he were seeing him all over again.

"Oh, I see. You dared to lay a hand on the beloved daughter of that Flame Fist Duke, the great hero of Sword Coast, a descendant of Baal. Fine, the transport ship won't miss your place. You can come along when it returns to port!"

The group looked at Su En with pity. Although they were very unlucky, compared to Su En, they were surprisingly not so unlucky.

With a bang, the iron gate slammed shut, and the footsteps faded into the distance.

Su En slowly sat down against the wall, her face showing an expression as if her mind was completely blank.

The Trail Blazers? Weren't they just sending themselves to their deaths? Thurte is a desolate and harsh place, with a group of natives riding dinosaurs. How could he possibly survive?

Hey!

He absolutely cannot become a pioneer! He has to find a way to escape!

Su En stood up and surveyed the corridor. Once it was empty, he said in a deep voice, "Gentlemen, are you content with this?"

A rustling sound came from next door, followed by a sigh from a northern barbarian: "Of course I'm not reconciled! Here, I can't feel the power of nature, let alone communicate with my ancestors. Do you have any ideas, Sword Bay Man...?"

Suen didn't have any good ideas either.

The Heavy Crime Zone is a rare anti-magic zone where even powerful mages are treated like ordinary people.

Moreover, the craftsmen who built the prison were exceptionally skilled. Suen squatted in front of the door for a long time, but couldn't even find where the lock was.

Just when he was at his wit's end, he suddenly heard a familiar sound of digging into the wall.

"Dwarf, you haven't given up yet?" Suen looked suspiciously at the dwarf's cell.

The digging stopped for a moment, and then a helpless voice came from behind the door: "Alas, you fools, didn't you notice? There's gold and mithril mixed in with the wall. I'll collect a few more grains of gold dust, and maybe I can bribe the crew to send me back when I go to the colony."

Damn, no wonder you were digging so enthusiastically?

"Don't dream, dwarf. They won't let you go for a little gold."

Suen disagreed, thinking the dwarfs were too naive.

The colonies were so short of manpower that they thought a little gold could buy them freedom.

Wait, why is there gold inside the wall?

From next door came the heartbroken voice of a northern barbarian: "That's right, we've been framed! We have to escape! We can't just give up!"

Even so, the sound of scraping against the wall still rang out from next door, as if afraid of being outdone by the dwarf.

"?"

No, even in this situation, why would you play mind games with your brother?

Hmm, how about he digs some too?

After hesitating for a moment, Su En grabbed a spoon and slashed it hard against the wall.

The spoon scraped off a layer of ash, as if tearing away a disguise. Beneath the wall was a fragile stone shell, which encased a sturdy metal wall forged from various strange metals.

It seems that due to its age, the metal wall has been stained with part of the stone shell, forming a complex surface mineralization layer.

Suen broke off a piece.

Just as the dwarves said, there was gold inside, and it was quite a large piece.

He plucked a piece of gold ore the size of a fingernail, placed it between his teeth, and gently bit it. Hmm, it's soft. Maybe after melting it down and removing the impurities, he could get quite a bit of gold.

Su En thought to herself with delight.

Suddenly, the light screen flickered.
