In the name of the true god
Chapter 50: Buying a Car
Edmund sent him.
This is precisely the answer Jude least wanted to face, and the one he couldn't understand the most.
The cause originates from oneself, and so does the effect.
Why?
How could that be?
In an instant, Jude's heart skipped a beat, and his whole body went cold, as if he had just learned that he had cancer in his previous life. His mind went blank, and all his thoughts were flying around uncontrollably.
"What's wrong with you?" Vincent Monroe asked in a low voice when he saw Jude standing there blankly for several seconds without making any further move.
Jude did not reply, his eyes vacant.
"Jude! What's wrong?" Vincent Monroe called out in a low voice as he saw that it was almost time and nudged Jude.
Jude swayed, finally regaining his senses. He hurriedly closed the partition and left the heresy cell in astonishment.
This is bad, very bad.
Cause and effect are confused.
There's a bug in the timeline.
The power of the Möbius strip ring is far more terrifying than I imagined!
Sitting in the prison guards' makeshift break room, Jude's forehead was covered in cold sweat, still feeling terrified about his interference with the timeline.
However, what truly terrified him was...
Vincent Monroe informed him first that he had waited twenty years for him to come see him.
Even if you never understand the logic of the timeline and decide to stop interfering with it, the results of interfering with the timeline will still appear, forcing you to interfere with the past in reverse based on the results.
Everything really seemed to be preordained.
Is this scientifically sound?
Ok……
Science itself cannot explain the complexity of time.
Or...
Should we really grit our teeth and go against the outcome next time?
The more a certain outcome occurs, the less likely I am to do anything about it.
Give it a try!
It's better than sitting and waiting to die!
"What are you thinking about?" Allen asked with concern as he sat down next to Jude.
"I'm thinking about a...maybe a silly question." Jude pulled out a handkerchief to wipe his sweat. "Which came first, the chicken or the egg?"
"Hehe..." Killian, the eldest brother on the other side, rarely smiled. "You're sweating buckets because of this problem?"
The vain Colin blurted out, "Is that even a question? The chicken must have come first."
"No, no, that's not right. Then, how, how, how did the chicken come about?" the poet Anders asked.
"Chicken...uh..." Colin scratched his head, awkwardly asking, "Uh...so if that's the case, where do eggs come from?"
"I...I...I don't know," the poet Anders smiled shyly.
Captain Foster also became interested and looked at Jude, asking, "You've thought about it for so long, do you have an answer?"
"I'm afraid... the chicken and the egg existed at the same time." Jude concluded based on his causal observations of the timeline.
"Simultaneous existence..." Captain Foster pondered for a moment, "Why would they exist simultaneously? There has to be a sequence, right?"
"I don't know," Jude said, still puzzled.
A seemingly trivial question sparked a lively discussion among the prison guards in the break room.
Colin, who has little formal education, talks big about evolution and insists that the chicken came first.
The poet Anders opposed him, repeatedly asking how the chicken came to be if there were no eggs.
The argument continued into the evening.
Captain Foster picked at his ear: "Forget it, let the philosophers think about these kinds of questions. Let's go, empty the sewage bins and go home."
The cell on the north side of the heretical prison area.
Jude meets Vincent Monroe again.
He pulled back the partition, stared at Vincent Monroe's wrinkled face, which was pale from being in the dark for so long, and asked a question that seemed superfluous: "So you deliberately assassinated His Majesty Leonard and ended up in this prison."
"No," Vincent Monroe denied. "Edmund only told me to wait for you in the capital's heavy prison in the year 448 of the Christian calendar. I never imagined I'd be imprisoned so soon. My original plan was to kill Leonard first, then go somewhere else and live a carefree life for a decade or so, before coming back to confess. Heh... things didn't go as planned, and I've ended up here for a full twenty years..."
The timeline is finally making some sense...
Vincent Monroe certainly had no reason to come here to suffer twenty years in advance...
pity.
The chicken-or-egg question remains unresolved.
Jude sighed inwardly and prepared to pull the partition shut.
“I also have a question for you,” Vincent Monroe interrupted Jude. “How did you and Edmund meet? And why did he make me wait for you?”
This is too difficult to explain.
Although Jude wanted to treat Vincent sincerely to 'repay' his long wait in prison, he shook his head as a precaution: "I don't know either, maybe he foresaw something..."
"What did I foresee..." Vincent murmured to himself, lost in thought.
"throat."
Jude closed the partition, returned to the heretics' block, changed into civilian clothes, and met up with his brother Connor, who was off duty at the same time.
"Have you thought it through?" Connor walked straight out of the prison.
"What?" Jude asked, following beside him.
"Owning a dog or cat means you have to take them out for walks every day, clean their litter box, and bathe them from time to time..." Connor worried that Jude was just having a passing fancy and would just abandon them once the initial enthusiasm wore off. "In short, it's a troublesome matter, so you'd better think it through before making a decision."
Taking care of pets is definitely not as simple as you might imagine.
If it's merely for observation and imitation, once you've mastered the basic application of the law of similarity, you'll inevitably see them as a burden.
Fortunately, Jude genuinely loves dogs and cats, and with so little entertainment in this other world, having two pets would make daily life much more interesting.
He answered seriously, "I've thought it through. I'll raise it."
"Get in the car." Connor didn't try to persuade him any further and drove Jude to the nearest pet store.
On the way, Jude, a little embarrassed, confessed another idea: "Brother, there's something else I'd like to discuss with you."
"What is it?"
I want to buy a car.
"Buy a car?"
"I feel like having a car would be so much more convenient. When I have time, I can drive around the city myself and see more of the world." Jude knew he'd been making too many requests lately, so to avoid upsetting his brother Connor, he spoke with extra sincerity, "I don't want to buy an expensive one. My colleagues said a regular used car should cost around a thousand gold grams, which I think is perfectly adequate..."
"You didn't talk to Steele about this, did you?" Connor was most concerned about whether Jude had tried to take advantage of Steele.
"No. I'm embarrassed to bother people all the time, and besides, didn't you say that you would come to me for advice if I was unsure about any large expenses? I thought I'd get your opinion first."
Connor thought for a moment.
Spending a thousand pounds to buy an ordinary used car is not excessive.
Moreover, having Jude buy one first would prevent Steele from taking matters into his own hands and gifting him a high-end car.
After a moment of silence, he finally agreed to his brother Jude's request: "Okay, I'll help you pick one out when I have time."
