In the name of the true god

Chapter 57: Discussion

When Jude left the deputy warden's office, he had already extracted all the information he needed. In addition, the time allotted for the guards to have lunch was very short, so he didn't bother to go and ask his brother Connor for more information. He immediately returned to the death row and solitary confinement ward on the first basement floor of the special prison building.

At this moment, Captain Foster, Big Brother Killian, Poet Anders, and the vain Colin were all sitting together smoking and chatting, while only Fat Allen, who was unusually unable to hide his urgency, paced back and forth at the stairwell.

Their eyes met, and Jude simply shook his head slightly.

Before Allen could even speak, Colin, the vain guy not far away, turned his gaze over and said, "Hey? Jude's back."

Everyone looked over, and Jude had no choice but to pass by Allen and come to Captain Foster. In front of everyone, he whispered, "I've got pretty much all the information I need, but it's not appropriate to spread it yet. Just listen to it, and don't tell anyone else."

"Did you all hear that clearly?" Captain Foster remained as steady as a mountain, and before Jude could reveal anything, he personally emphasized again, "Just keep it to yourself. If anyone talks nonsense and causes trouble, I won't be responsible for cleaning up their mess."

The men standing around Jude and Captain Foster exchanged glances, all fully aware of the seriousness of the matter, and thus readily agreed:

"clear."

"Okay, okay, okay..."

"Yes."

"Here's the situation..." Jude roughly recounted the details of the prison break in the ordinary ward, "...It's certain that there will be no leave this afternoon."

"Damn it..." Colin spat, "What does the issue of the rotating guards in the regular first ward have to do with us? I was looking forward to this vacation to go out and have some fun, buy some clothes and perfume, and now, I have to wait again!"

"Will this extend our working hours?" the eldest brother, Killian, asked calmly.

Jude pondered for a moment: "If the higher-ups want to continue strengthening prevention, they'll probably have to recruit another batch of prison guards. Simply extending working hours won't make much difference... But I haven't heard of any such plans from above yet."

"Although the problem lies with the rotating guards, the prisoner still escaped from the regular Ward 1." Captain Foster seemed more concerned about how the person primarily responsible would be dealt with. "What do they plan to do with Melanie, the head guard of Ward 1?"

"I don't know." Jude didn't ask that question.

But he could imagine that the "unbreakable myth" that had lasted for decades in the capital's heavy prison would collapse, and even demoting Melanie to a second-level warden or a regular captain would be a rather lenient punishment.

As for whether or not she bears the responsibility.

It's really unlucky to run into something like this.

"Just, just, just, as long as they don't deduct my, my, our wages, that's fine," the poet Anders said.

"Hiss..." Colin had a bad feeling. "Jude, didn't you ask about this?"

"I didn't ask. Probably not, right? We weren't on duty at the time, so the responsibility can't be pinned on us." Jude felt Allen's gaze and then got to the point, "But Deputy Warden Chambers used this as an excuse to pressure the warden, wanting to transfer all the heretics imprisoned in the heresy ward to the church temple."

"What did the warden say?" Allen couldn't help but ask.

"The warden didn't agree. After all, it was His Majesty Leonard's order to imprison heretics in the capital's heavy prison. Just because a prisoner escaped from the ordinary ward, it's not enough to make His Majesty Leonard relent," Jude said. "But whether he will compromise later is uncertain."

Allen's expression became more serious.

Colin prayed sincerely, "I just hope it doesn't affect the heretics' block. I rely on my monthly shift to catch up on sleep there..."

7:30 p.m.

Special prison building and temporary rest room for prison guards.

While changing into casual clothes, Allen whispered to Jude, "I'm going to report the situation to the chairman, and we'll go to your house tonight to discuss how to deal with it."

"Okay." Jude agreed, and after changing his clothes, he went to meet his brother Connor outside the special prison building.

"You went to see Steele?" Connor stood still, seemingly not intending to go home after get off work.

"Yes," Jude answered honestly, "I wanted to ask what happened."

"This is not something you should be worrying about. Even if you want to ask, you should ask me. Going to the deputy warden's office all the time is not a good look," Connor reminded him, frowning.

Jude knew he would definitely get a scolding for doing this, so he could only nod repeatedly and admit his mistake: "I won't do it again next time."

Seeing that Jude's attitude was proper, Connor didn't press the matter further. While taking out his car keys from his pocket, he instructed, "I have to be on duty tonight. You drive my car back."

Jude paused for a moment, then slowly took the key.

He has been practicing driving a lot under Connor's guidance recently, and although his driving skills are not yet proficient, a few minutes' drive is no longer a challenge for him.

"Will it work?" Connor asked again, still uneasy.

"Brother... will the heretics be transferred to the church temple?" Jude changed the subject, wanting to see if Connor, as a priest, had any more information.

Why do you ask that?

"You're a priest. If the heretics are transferred, you'll definitely be transferred out of the prison too," Jude reasoned.

"Afraid I'll leave?"

"Um."

Connor seemed unsuspecting: "You know, I'm both a priest and have a close relationship with Steele. Both the ecclesiastical and royal factions treat me as an outsider. So if the ecclesiastical faction really has any plans, they won't reveal them to me."

The circumstances are real.

But no further details were given.

"Okay..." Jude secretly rejoiced that he had gone to see Steele at noon.

"I have something to do, drive carefully on the road." Connor glanced at his watch, didn't say anything more to Jude, and hurriedly headed towards the special prison building.

Jude sighed and drove back to Hearthstone Street alone.

It was a little past nine o'clock in the evening.

As usual, Chairman Frost and Fat Allen climbed in through the bedroom window.

Jude, unfazed, invited them to sit down in the living room.

"Alan has told me everything. We're in a very passive position right now, and we need to come up with a feasible rescue plan as soon as possible." Chairman Frost stared intently at Jude. "Do you have any ideas?"

"No." Jude was deeply troubled by this. "Rescues are difficult enough as they are, and now there's been another prison break. The prison's security has been raised to the highest level. At this critical juncture, the chances of a successful rescue are probably no more than 10%."

President Frost didn't mince words, stating bluntly, "Releasing thirty-nine of our kind from the heresy ward isn't difficult for us. The only challenge is how to get them out of the special ward building in one go before the Holy Church's support arrives. Jude, could you perhaps find a solution with your brother and his wife, Steele?"
