Soul Returns to Hong Kong: From Tailor Shop to Richest Woman

Chapter 32: The father's drunken words shattered the little tyrant's heart.

The door clicked shut, and Lin Ying's footsteps disappeared into the corridor outside.

Su Jun sat motionless in the chair in front of the dining table for a long time. After a while, he rushed to the sofa, plopped down in the cushions, and grabbed the martial arts comic book he usually liked to read from the coffee table.

Normally, whenever he opens this comic book and sees the protagonist slap seven or eight villains away, he can roll around on the sofa. But today, staring at those black and white lines, even though the villains are being beaten to a pulp, not a single word can get into his mind.

Lin Ying's last words kept echoing in his ears.

"Your father is only in his early thirties this year."

"What if he brings you a young and beautiful stepmother?"

"The stepmother gave birth to two more well-behaved and obedient younger brothers."

"By then, will there still be a place for you, the young master who always gets the lowest score in exams, in this family?"

Su Jun flipped through the comic book in his hand from beginning to end, then from end to beginning, and slammed it back onto the glass coffee table with a "thud".

The kitchen door opened, and Maria, the Filipino maid, came out carrying a plate of cut fruit. Seeing the second young master tossing and turning on the sofa, she quickly stepped forward and asked, "Young master, would you like some mango?"

"I'm not eating!" Su Jun grabbed a handful of hair and asked, "When is my dad coming back?"

Maria shook her head and answered honestly, "Brother Hao called and said that things were very troublesome on set today. The director wants to add more explosion scenes, so he might not get back until late."

Good night.

Upon hearing those two words, Su Jun couldn't sit still any longer. He got up from the sofa, paced around the spacious living room a few times, and finally ran to the balcony, grabbing the railing with both hands and looking down.

The night view of Causeway Bay is bustling, with rows of car headlights gliding by on the road, and the sounds of car horns and trams ringing in the distance. He usually loves to join in the fun, but today he frowned as he listened to these sounds.

Around 8 p.m., the sound of a key being inserted into the lock and turning could finally be heard at the door.

Su Jun rushed to the door, only to find his older brother, Su Cheng, pushing it open.

Su Cheng is twelve years old. He is wearing a loose T-shirt with a skull print, his hair is a little messy from the wind, and he is carrying a half-empty glass bottle of soda. He grins as he changes his shoes and walks inside.

"What are you doing standing in the middle of the living room?" Su Cheng changed into his slippers and looked at his younger brother, who was standing motionless. "Did Dad punish you so badly that you went crazy?"

Su Jun rushed over and grabbed Su Cheng's arm: "Brother, come here, I have something extremely important to tell you!"

Su Cheng frowned, letting his younger brother drag him to the sofa and press him down to sit: "What's the big deal? You stole Dad's money again to buy rare comics, and you got caught?"

"No!" Su Jun said urgently, "Lin Ying told me something really scary today!"

Upon hearing the name Lin Ying, Su Cheng couldn't help but laugh out loud, tilting his head back to take a sip of soda: "Weren't you getting tutoring from her today? How did it go? Being controlled by a nine-year-old girl, did you get a slap on the hand?"

"Don't mention that! I'm talking to you seriously now!" Su Jun slapped his thigh twice. "She said that Old Dou might remarry in the future!"

Su Cheng's smile faded slightly. He leaned back on the sofa and shook the soda bottle in his hand: "What's so strange about that? Old Dou is in his thirties, he's rich and confident, he's not a monk."

"What if the stepmother has another son?" Su Jun stared at his brother.

Su Cheng stopped holding the soda bottle in his hand and didn't bring it to his mouth.

Su Jun said sadly, "Lin Ying said that Dad's money will always be Dad's money, not our money! We're not only children! If our stepmother comes in and has two kids who are good at being spoiled and get perfect scores on tests, why should we, who have bad grades, are always scolded, and are disobedient, get the biggest share of the inheritance?"

Su Cheng fell silent. He had wanted to say that the girl was just bluffing, but the words wouldn't come out. Because he was a few years older than Su Jun, he knew better than anyone that this was possible.

The two brothers from the second wife's family had no mother; that place had been empty since they were little. The adults whispered that the woman who gave birth to them had long since run away to a foreign country; although the family was not short of money, had Filipino maids to cook for them, and had uncles and aunts from the first wife's family to say a few words of advice during holidays, very few people truly cared about them.

Old Dou, Su Zhihao, has now switched careers to the film industry. He's got money to burn, a large entourage, and still holds considerable influence in Kowloon City. If he wanted to find a woman, it would be a simple matter of a word.

Su Jun looked at his brother without speaking: "Brother, are you just scaring people by saying Lin Ying is something else?"

Just as Su Cheng was about to speak, the sound of a key turning came from outside the door again.

This time, the door was pushed open, and Su Zhihao walked in.

Su Zhihao reeked of alcohol. After entering the house, he casually tossed his car keys onto the entryway cabinet with a clatter.

"Maria! Pour me a glass of ice water!" Su Zhihao tugged at his collar, walked unsteadily to the sofa, and lay down on it.

Su Zhihao was really annoyed by those people on set tonight.

Su Jun and Su Cheng exchanged a glance.

Su Jun took a small step forward, emboldened: "Old Dou."

"What are you doing?" Su Zhihao asked, his eyes closed, rubbing his temples hard. "Did you get into trouble again? Did Lin Ying not keep an eye on you this afternoon?"

"No." Su Jun's palms were sweaty. "Dad, I have something to ask you."

Su Zhihao opened his eyes: "Speak."

Su Jun took a deep breath and asked, "Will you... get married again in the future?"

Su Zhihao was stunned for a moment; he thought this brat was going to talk about the school and call his parents, or ask for money to buy toys, but he didn't expect him to say something like this out of the blue.

As the alcohol took effect, Su Zhihao assumed it was just some kid chatting casually after watching too much TV, and laughed it off: "Why are you asking this? I'll definitely marry someone I like! I'm only in my thirties, do you want me to be alone for the rest of my life?"

Upon hearing this, Su Cheng's face turned pale instantly.

Su Jun wasn't giving up and continued to press, "If you get married again... will you still have children?"

"Nonsense!" Su Zhihao waved his hand forcefully. "I'm a man! How could I not have more? You two never study, what kind of nonsense fills your heads!"

After those words were spoken, the living room fell silent instantly.

Maria stood to the side with a glass of iced water, watching the expressions on her two sons' faces, not daring to even offer them the glass. Su Zhihao stood up, snatched the glass, and drank most of it in one gulp, completely unaware of his sons' unusual behavior.

Su Zhihao slammed the glass down on the coffee table: "Alright, if you have nothing else to do, go back to your room and sleep! Ah Jun, have you finished your homework for today? If you come in last place again on the final exam, I'll really take all your crappy comics and use them to fill the sea!"
