Chapter 97 The Shark
Chapter 97 The Shocking Shark (Fourth Update, Seeking First Subscription)
"Ah—you've come!"
Blake smiled politely and said, "Please have a seat! How did you rest? Wouldn't the deluxe private room be more comfortable?"
Chalice gave Blake a perfunctory reply and went straight to the point, asking, "Director, what brings you here?"
"Actually, it's nothing important. I just wanted to check on you and see if there are any aftereffects."
Blake thought for a moment, then took a document out of the drawer.
"If you're feeling alright—I have a new mission for you, and this time the information will be absolutely clear and comprehensive!"
"ha!"
Charys chuckled, "To be honest, I'm still a little worried, and I don't plan to take on any missions anytime soon. And even if I did—I'd go back to Simon Island to do it."
"That's perfect."
Undeterred, Blake pressed on, saying, "There's a classified mission taking place in the southwest of Simon Island."
"Detailed information has been sent to Simon Island. If you'd like to take the mission, you can go back and find Jack."
I said—
"You can't just use anyone you can get your hands on to the point of exhaustion," Chalice complained helplessly. "Is the Navigators' Association really that short-staffed?"
"Ugh!"
Blake sighed, "You don't know—there's been so much going on lately."
"Besides the activities of the evil cult, pirates from the east have also come to the Gran Islands, and there have been several incidents of merchant ships being hijacked. I really don't know what the expensive fleet they maintain is doing—"
"The key point is that these months are still the period when marine mammals mate, migrate, and compete for waters, so the sea surface is unstable and the waters beneath the surface are not peaceful either."
"With all these factors combined, the association, the church, and the governors in various regions are all extremely busy. Let's just hope nothing major goes wrong."
Chalice thought to himself that he shouldn't say such things carelessly.
I had originally planned to stay on Maro Island for a few more days and enjoy a few more lavish meals at the Corleone family's house.
Now, after Blake's bald rant, his instinct was to head out to sea and escape.
"You're leaving today? Is the ship ready for repairs?"
Blake was somewhat surprised, but he still agreed.
"Alright! You submit a report now, and I'll approve it on the spot. Charys, are you really not considering taking on a few missions while you're at it?"
"Don't make this sound like a sales pitch!"
Chalis couldn't resist Blake's demands and eventually accepted two relatively simple classified missions.
And it can be submitted on Simon Island.
"be safe!"
Blake had resolved another portion of the performance targets and was in a very good mood as he saw Cherries off.
"Give my regards to Uncle Jack!"
The deck of the Homecoming ship.
The crew members greeted the newlyweds with eager eyes.
With an encouraging look from Cherries, Luca, having changed into his sailor shirt, cleared his throat and bravely stepped forward to introduce himself.
Because Cherries had given prior notice, and also because the crew members had seen Luca to some extent before.
So when this young man of considerable background officially joined the Homecoming as an apprentice sailor.
No one dared to laugh at Luca's nervousness and stuttering.
Chalice made it very clear beforehand.
This new guy just needs to start as a sailor; it doesn't mean he'll be a sailor for life.
The crew members are required to care for and educate Luca; those who perform well receive bonuses, while those who perform poorly are fined.
In fact, Chalice didn't want to receive this special treatment either.
Some sailors are just really despicable.
This kind of "cheapness" is a habit they have developed over a long period of time.
They fawned over the captain, first mate, and bosun, while exploiting newcomers with less experience.
The dangers and pressures of sailing.
It also exposes the uglier side of human nature.
Therefore, Chalice had to make things clear to them, otherwise there was no guarantee that someone wouldn't "bully" Luca, who didn't seem to have much of an imposing presence.
Luca is now a true member of the Night's Watch.
Cheryl's attention to these seemingly trivial matters was also a way of protecting these "bullies."
If these scoundrels were to cause Luca, who has never suffered any hardship since childhood, stress, his superhuman physical abilities would be more than enough for him to personally beat them to death.
Fortunately, Chalice's prestige was still quite effective.
The sailors shouldn't worry about what they think.
At least they did a good job of putting on a good show.
The applause was very enthusiastic!
The friendly whistles were also very cheerful!
Luca beamed with delight at being recognized, excitedly tugging at his somewhat crudely made blue and white striped shirt.
"Alright!" Chalice clapped his hands, drawing everyone's attention. "This mission is simple; the route back to Simon Island is familiar to everyone."
He surveyed the crew. "My requirements should be familiar to you all. Enough with the pleasantries, let's do a final check of the weapons, ammunition, and equipment. We're ready to set sail!"
"Yes, Captain!"
Luca was a beat slower, but he finished shouting along with everyone else.
Charioteer specifically arranged for Eddie to mentor him. The bosun's job was plentiful but not strenuous, and it didn't involve much physical labor.
Although he had already made arrangements with the Corleone family, he couldn't really use Luca as a sailor.
Doing some physical labor is fine; consider it an experience of life.
Buck, the murmuring poet, is quite secretive.
However, he cannot escape the [Exploration Log], as Charys can discover him by observing the [ships] in real time.
Combining ships with nautical charts can achieve an effect almost similar to radar.
It was precisely because of this extraordinary ability to observe that Chalice was able to escape danger on numerous occasions.
However, this kind of "radar" cannot be completely foolproof.
Chalice learned from Blake that things might be getting tense on Maro Island recently.
For no apparent reason, he recalled the stranger who had followed him in the dark alley and said some strange things.
The evil god statue caught him off guard.
Fortunately, the final result was a close call, and they even gained a considerable benefit in the process.
However, Charys was still somewhat anxious.
It seems there's something worse than the statue of the evil god.
But he never found any clues.
Cherries decided to leave Maro Island altogether.
If you can't afford to mess with them, you can at least avoid them!
At least I have acquaintances on Simon Island, and the Seventh Fleet too!
After the crew completed their inspections, the Homecoming slowly began to sail out of the port of Mara Island.
The previous statue of the evil god did not cause much of a stir.
Under the combined blockade of various forces, the information was well controlled.
There are quite a few people who are capable of knowing, and it's impossible to keep it a secret.
Those who lack the ability to know naturally have no right to know.
They sailed like this for most of the day.
After skillfully adjusting and planning the route once again, Chalice prepared to go and see what the newly boarded young man was doing.
Unexpectedly, Wirtz, who was at the helm, shouted, "Captain! There's something to your right!"
Cherries set up his telescope and looked in the direction Wirtz had reported.
Several gray-black lines were seen swimming rapidly toward the Homecoming Ship!
"They look like a swarm of sharks—what's going on!?"
Chalice frowned, instinctively sensing that something was wrong.
"They didn't kill a sea monster—and the goods were all supplies. Where's the blood? Besides, the sharks' target—is all too clear!"
"Captain, is this ship specifically targeting us?"
"Hard to say—for everyone!"
Chalice's eyes flashed coldly. "A horde of blind sea monsters are approaching! Sailors, check your weapons! Gunners, take your positions! Report back once you're in position, prepare for battle!"
