Magical Cat
Chapter 100 Worries
Li En's eyes sharpened, and he couldn't help but show a look of tension.
But then he lowered his eyelids and looked down at his own claws.
"The Dou Xin Hui?"
He pretended to be hearing this for the first time.
Even after a brief encounter, Li En could guess that the Tongxin Club had bigger ambitions.
I imagine the old dean would only become more wary of this kind of organization.
Moreover, Li En didn't know much about the Tongxin Society and was unclear about their role in this world.
At this moment, he naturally cannot admit to having any relationship with Tongxin Society.
"Never heard of it?"
The old dean's face was full of amusement, as if he had already seen through Li En's true nature.
"Tongxin Society is a newly emerging large church that guides people towards goodness, provides disaster relief and poverty alleviation, and protects people in war-torn areas. Because of its countless acts of kindness, the number of believers among the people is growing day by day, and it is about to catch up with those traditional churches."
Li En didn't say anything, but nodded repeatedly, as if he had learned something.
"So this is a good church?" Li En asked.
"At least that's how it seems." The old dean's words were loaded with meaning.
Li En's eyes darted around, and she steered the conversation elsewhere: "Who are you referring to as the traditional church? Aren't they worried when they see people poaching believers?"
"There are many traditional churches, including the Church of Light, which believes in light, and the Church of the Earth Mother Goddess, which believes in nature," the old dean patiently explained.
"No one believes in magic?" Li En was somewhat surprised.
The fact that there was no church that believed in such power in such a magical world was truly surprising to the cat.
"There are organizations like the Energy Ring or the Rune Codex, but they're not churches; they're more like academic conferences."
The old dean's tone was relaxed, and he didn't seem to intend to interrogate Li En.
Li En breathed a sigh of relief.
But the fact that the other party was able to find him so precisely and ask about the Tongxin Association clearly shows that they were somewhat confident.
"I've been getting entangled with these powerful people lately," Li En complained.
He tried to change the subject, avoiding any discussion of matters related to the Tongxin Association, and instead asked the old dean all sorts of questions.
The old dean patiently answered Li En's questions one by one, but he would always steer the conversation back to the Unity Society.
Li En denies any relationship with the Tongxin Association, and there is no relationship between them.
The old dean simply talked to him about whatever he wanted to say.
According to the former dean, the Tongxin Society has indeed done a lot of good deeds over the years, and has therefore won a large number of believers.
However, it is not hard to tell from the old dean's words that he is wary of the Tongxin Society.
He seemed to regard Li En as a magical beast that had mistakenly entered the Tongxin Society.
The purpose of visiting him tonight was not to force him to leave the Tongxin Society, but simply to help him better understand what kind of organization the Tongxin Society really is.
As the two, one human and one cat, chatted, Li En couldn't help but become puzzled.
"If what you say is true, then isn't the Tongxin Society a good organization?"
The old dean shook his head: "In this world, no one will do something without any benefit. Wealth, power, and beliefs can all be the ultimate goals."
Then he sighed deeply: "But I can't see the purpose of the Tongxin Society for the time being, which is enough to prove that they have big plans, otherwise it wouldn't be worth all they have done so far."
Li En hadn't expected the old dean's logic to be so simple and crude, just for this reason.
"Maybe the Tongxin Society wants to compete for the title of the world's number one church? As long as they have enough believers, they can get all the benefits you mentioned, right?" Li En shrugged, thinking that the old dean was worrying too much.
Doesn't this kind of thing happen every day in every corner of the world?
What is there to worry about?
But the old dean shook his head: "Conflicts of interest that are out in the open are relatively simple; battles between nations are never-ending. But battles between churches are different; they are battles of beliefs."
"It is a battle in which one can disregard worldly interests and annihilate the enemy for the sake of one's beliefs."
Li En didn't speak, but listened silently.
"I see this potential in the Tongxin Association."
"I also hope that I'm overthinking these things."
The old dean looked out the window, lost in thought.
Li En remained silent for a moment, still puzzled: "Then what does this have to do with me? I'm just a kitten, a young magical beast."
Li En didn't think such a big event had anything to do with him.
He just wanted to wait until Elaine graduated from the academy so they could go on adventures together, just like in an anime, seeing different landscapes, searching for all sorts of treasures, and incidentally eliminating some monsters.
If I could encounter all sorts of kemonomimi girls and other beautiful girls from different races on the road, that would be absolutely perfect.
Li En felt that this was enough; he didn't seem to want anything else that much.
He had long since become indifferent to the fiercely competitive society of his past life.
Too many desires will only make you more miserable and unhappy.
Only by limiting desires can one eat well and sleep well.
Seeing that Li En was not interested in what he was saying and even yawned, the old dean stopped rambling.
Actually, for someone of Li En's age, it's already a miracle that they were able to communicate for so long.
The old dean knew very well that he couldn't expect too much from a juvenile magical beast.
It is already very rare for Li En to be able to communicate with demonic thoughts and to have such a mature mind.
This also eased the old dean's worries considerably.
The college was well aware of Elaine's background as a student sponsored by a commoner.
Although Li En's magical beast is special, its origin is clear and there is nothing to doubt.
The entire academy knew that Waver had abandoned the magical beast.
Elaine simply took in the abandoned Lee En.
Most of the faculty at the college appreciated Elaine's approach to this matter.
They just didn't say it outright because of their status.
But what Elaine and Webber did further illustrates that nobility of status has nothing to do with nobility of behavior.
Most of the people in the academy are nobles; those of commoner origin like Elaine and Melina are a very small minority.
Only the staff who do not participate in teaching are composed of civilians.
But in the matter of Li En being abandoned, everyone knows that Elaine's behavior was truly noble.
A mage who casually abandons even magical beasts is not worthy of any respect.
They should even be despised.
But the old headmaster had to admit that the magical world was going downhill, and as long as people could pursue greater power, things that shouldn't have been done in the past had become commonplace.
The former dean believed that this decline in morals was the beginning of the collapse of social order.
When nobles cease to be nobles, commoners will naturally no longer be content to remain commoners.
Originally, no one would have worried about such a future.
Because true power is ultimately held by only a few.
But the emergence of the Tongxin Society made the old dean feel uneasy.
He always felt that something different was about to happen.
