My Magical Card Tavern

Chapter 7: A Visit to the Church of Holy Light

"If you are not a citizen of the Northern United Kingdom, then please pay the entrance fee of one copper coin."

Silver Star City, as one of the top cities in the Northern United Kingdom, has an entrance fee that is more symbolic than practical.

For those who can travel far and wide, even for groups like bards and travelers accustomed to living a life of hardship, a copper coin is not a big deal.

But today, the guards at the gates of Silver Star City felt they were in deep trouble.

The person opposite was wearing an oddly styled but exquisitely made outfit, which looked like the new fashion pursued by a young master from a wealthy family.

The problem was that the copper coin the other party produced was covered in dirt and dark red marks, making it clear that the coin was of dubious origin.

The guards at the city gate were also knowledgeable men, and they immediately realized that the copper coin in the other person's hand must have been dug out from a pile of corpses.

Even adventurers wouldn't fail to thoroughly clean up their money after receiving it.

This isn't a normal visitor; this is an outlaw!

"Please identify yourself immediately!"

The guard was a little nervous, while Ginell in front of him looked helpless, as if he realized that his behavior was inappropriate.

"Well, listen to me, there's a reason why I did this."

"If you raise the city entrance fee even a little, I'll take the extra money."

To put it more humorously, the strength of the Northern Union led to this misunderstanding.

A copper coin, a copper piece—Ginnell really worked hard to find this copper coin.

He did indeed take on side jobs while in the dungeon, much like those adventurers who called themselves Raven Path apprentices, scavenging useful items from dead adventurers.

This copper coin was dug out of a pile of mud.

As for the cause of that puddle of mud, Ginell hadn't thought about it carefully.

Driven by his rat-like instincts and hoarding mentality, and believing that even a handful of copper coins is money, Ginell didn't waste any coins and picked them up.

The guard immediately gripped the hilt of his sword, his eyes fixed on Ginell.

He noticed a small hammer hanging from the other person's waist, and knew he couldn't afford to be careless at a time like this.

"Please identify yourself immediately!"

After thinking for a moment, Gianna raised a finger and ignited the holy light within her.

"Is this alright?"

The guard's expression changed in an instant.

"So they were believers who received the Holy Light's approval."

"I'm very sorry to have any doubts about you, please come in."

The moment the guard saw the Holy Light, he had already conjured up a whole drama in his mind for Ginnell, thinking that this believer of the Holy Light might have just returned from the front lines of fighting evil.

It's understandable that there would be bloodstains and dirt on one's clothes and money.

Ginnell smiled and sent a ray of holy light blessing to the guard in front of him.

Strictly speaking, this cannot even be considered magic; it is merely the use of holy light to circulate within the target's body.

The guards were invigorated; the fatigue from their work was quickly washed away by the holy light, and they became even more convinced of Ginell's identity.

"Welcome to Silver Star City."

"If you want to find the location of the Church of Holy Light, remember to walk straight after entering the gate, and turn left at the third intersection, which is Holy Light Avenue."

Ginnell walked slowly into Silver Star City, where the bustling city was filled with a unique vitality.

Shops adorned with green vines and fruit, humans and minotaurs raising their glasses in restaurants, and well-equipped, serious-looking adventurer teams walking briskly down the street.

The clatter of carriages echoed across the smooth road, a testament to the perfect fusion of alchemy and magic, and the very foundation of Silver Star City's prosperity.

At least there were no potholes on the ground, and no obvious sanitation problems. Regardless of whether they were dressed luxuriously or simply, people on the street maintained basic courtesy. This is something that can only be achieved with a strong system.

Pedestrians and vehicles are separated, and there are safety barriers along the roadside as warning signs. In the corner, it is written that the safety barriers are sponsored by a certain alchemy workshop, and the workshop's address is even written down in a rather thoughtful way.

The only exception was the people who entered the city with Ginell. They were curiously observing the young man, their eyes filled with admiration and a hint of restraint.

Believers in the Holy Light—that's a top-notch reputation.

The blessing of holy light alone has great practical significance for ordinary people, as it can eliminate their pain and fatigue, and most likely won't cost too much money.

When Genele noticed the gaze, he looked down and saw several children dressed in somewhat shabby clothes.

Their faces were still dusty, and their dirty hands clutched their parents' pants. The weariness and dust on their bodies only made their jewel-like eyes stand out even more, along with the curiosity in them.

Ginnell smiled slightly, and the golden light emanating from his body immediately became visible to the naked eye.

"The Holy Light protects you."

The gentle holy light wiped away the stains on the child's body and healed the pain and injuries on the adult's body.

After the golden light faded, the children's expressions changed from curiosity and restraint to affection, but the person they wanted to get close to had already left.

"A true believer in the Holy Light."

Those who visited the Church of Holy Light bowed and prayed, hoping that the light would lower its eyes and look upon the young man who blessed them.

Ginnell walked quickly, partly to avoid being watched, and partly because he didn't understand the local laws of Silver Star City.

Although Holy Light is indeed different from other power systems, strictly speaking, using Holy Light on the street is not much different in nature from using magic in the street.

Ginnell has other things to do today and can't possibly sit down for a chat with the Silver Star City police department.

At the third intersection, turn left.

Silver Star City, Holy Light Avenue.

In the most bustling and central location of this street stands a tall and simple stone church, its white exterior bearing the marks of time.

Ginnell stood at the church entrance for a few minutes, and no matter how he looked at it, he felt that there were several grotesque marks that did not seem to be natural marks, let alone man-made ones.

It's like the hideous, irreparable marks left on the horns and scales of evil when a certain god personally descends upon the church to drive away evil.

The Church of Holy Light is large, but it is not as dark and mysterious as Ginnell had imagined; instead, it is filled with warm light.

Even in a corner of the church, you can close your eyes and feel the comfort of being surrounded by light without feeling any glare or heat.

Warmth, inclusiveness, and impartiality demonstrate the sublimity and compassion of the Holy Light.

To put it bluntly, the interior of the church is actually very suitable for drying clothes and crops, and it will most likely become a favorite activity center for the elderly.

Many people, like Ginnell, joined the Church of Holy Light, but they all had their own goals.
