Chapter 66 Gorgon and the Daedric Artifact

Chapter 66 Gorgon and the Daedric Artifact

Under the bright moonlight, Lorne walked out of the forest unhurriedly, dressed in white with white hair, spotless, like a fairy descending to earth.

A loud shout came from the city wall a hundred meters away, followed by a cacophony of voices.

Lorne frowned slightly in confusion, thinking to himself that this commotion was a bit too much; there shouldn't be enough room for so many elves on the city wall.

Looking up at the city wall, the troop deployment was the same as always, with each soldier standing straight and not looking to the side, and no one whispering to each other.

Could the commotion be coming from behind the city wall?

Lorne quickened his pace slightly, becoming more certain of his suspicions the closer he got to the city wall.

When they were 20 meters away from the city gate, the sound of metal hinges rubbing came from the gate tower, and the originally half-hanging gate slowly rose up.

Lorne frowned slightly.

In wartime, the city gate's sluice gates are not allowed to be fully retracted, so that the gates can be quickly lowered if the enemy launches a surprise attack.

Now that the gate is fully retracted, it means they intend to open the gates to welcome us.

As Lorne had predicted, after both gates were fully retracted, the two large iron and pine doors behind them slowly opened.

It has opened inwards, and judging from the momentum, it's not just half open, but fully open.

Lorne's expression turned even uglier.

What the hell?

Although the orcs are unlikely to raid the fortress tonight, leaving the gates wide open is suicidal.

Lorne had already reached the city gate and was about to shout to stop them when a thunderous cheer suddenly erupted from the gate.

The sound waves crashed towards Lorne like a dam releasing floodwaters, making his head buzz.

In a daze, he even had the illusion that "the war has been won".

What exactly happened?

Could it be that reinforcements have arrived ahead of schedule?

Lorne craned his neck slightly to look into the doorway, but all he saw were familiar faces; he didn't see any reinforcements.

What on earth are these elves doing?

Lorne's eyes twitched slightly, but seeing that the situation was beyond his control, he could only force a smile and quicken his pace to go inside.

Get into the city sooner, close the gates sooner, feel at ease sooner, and find out sooner who was out of their mind to do this.

"Long live Your Majesty!"

As Lorne walked out of the gatehouse, one of the elves shouted, and the other elves followed suit.

The shouts were not in unison at first, but gradually they became rhythmic and formed a wave of sound.

Lorne instinctively wanted to reply with "Long live the elves," but he swallowed the words back.

He felt that the current situation of inexplicably opening the incense cake halfway through the game did not deserve the name, so he planned to save it for the moment when the war was truly won, or for other more commemorative occasions.

So he said nothing, but smiled awkwardly yet politely, nodded and waved to the elves lining the way, and strode into the main castle.

You have completed the campaign event "Half-Chapter Champagne," gaining 20 x 10 experience points. (210/1000)

In the main castle command room, Lorne stood by the window looking down towards the north gate. He breathed a sigh of relief when he saw the gate fully lowered and the main gate closed again.

The elves are dispersing, and it will take some time for Kovina and the others to return from the city wall, so they can't figure out what just happened.

Lorne took Gorac's corpse out of the storage space and placed it on the pine wood floor of the command room hall. He then aligned the severed head and focused on refining a substitute body.

The bleeding from the body stopped, and the cut on the neck healed at a speed visible to the naked eye.

To maximize his gains, Lorne still chose to allocate all attribute enhancements to Strength when crafting this body.

You have successfully refined a level 14 orc warrior (corpse) into [Alien Body - Substitute Body].

Lorne first used [Cleanse] to clean up the bloodstains on the ground, then greeted the guards at the door before changing into a new orc body.

He named this alien substitute body, crafted from the corpse of Gorac, "Zaku 2".

Lorne sat cross-legged on the floor, concentrating on processing Gorac's memories and searching for intelligence that would be beneficial to the battle.

When Kovina, Seina, and Monteridge entered the command room, Lorne was still sitting cross-legged on the floor with his eyes closed, his brows furrowed, and his face solemn.

Lorne had informed the gatekeeper beforehand, asking him to tell Kovina and the others what he was doing, so the three elves didn't disturb Lorne and waited quietly to the side.

Fifteen minutes later, Lorne opened his eyes, stood up from the ground, and his expression remained solemn.

"Is there bad news?" Kovina asked worriedly.

Lorne, in his orc form, nodded, pointed to himself, and said, "This body originally belonged to Gorac, the First Chapter Commander of the Orcs. He was Goracon's younger brother, and knew many of Goracon's secrets."

"Gorgon found a Daedric artifact in an ancient ruin in the Abyss, which can summon and command the demon legions of the Abyss Lord Gorgath by sacrificing a soul."

"With this Daedric artifact, Gorgon doesn't need any complicated sacrificial rituals. As long as there are souls of those who died in the killing nearby, he can capture and sacrifice them directly."

"In other words, even if Gorgon doesn't capture enough elves, he can still use this artifact to directly collect souls from the battlefield and summon a demon army after the war begins."

"The only good news is that the souls of orcs are far less valuable to the elves than to that demonic artifact."

"Therefore, if you use orc souls as sacrifices, you need at least a thousand, and you can only summon low-level demons. If you want to summon powerful demons, you need to sacrifice even more."

At this point, Lorne felt a wave of lingering fear.

When I used the Golden Cicada Escape Technique to abandon the Zaku, the attraction I felt from the Gorgon in my soul state was probably the Daedric Artifact trying to devour my soul.

Fortunately, he had only faked his death to escape, so he could not be targeted by the demon artifact.

Lorne continued, "This demon artifact has already merged into Gorgon's body. Only by completely killing Gorgon can it be removed and sealed."

"But after Gorgon fused with the Daedric Artifact, he could transform into a demon at any time, exponentially increasing his power."

"Therefore, killing Gorgon is by no means an easy task."

After Lorne finished speaking, Kovina, Seina, and Monteridge all looked solemn, and the command room suddenly became quiet and somewhat oppressive.

Kovina was the first to break the silence, saying, "I heard from Salowell that you sent Mog'k'shakar to Gorgon before leaving the orc camp?"

"Yes." Lorne nodded, then sighed and said, "But according to Gorak's memories, although Goragon is a barbarian, he has been very clever since childhood. When he's not in a berserk state, he's both cautious and cunning. I don't think he'll accept the challenge."

Kovina nodded, then fell into deep thought again.

Monteridge said, "We can take the initiative and ambush Gorgon before he reaches the fortress. The scouts in the orc camp have been mostly cleared out by you and Her Highness Nelly, so we should be able to sneak past the orcs' guard line."

Upon hearing this, both Kovina and Seina's eyes lit up.

After careful consideration, Lorne shook his head and said, "Gorgon didn't come alone. He led a force of at least seven thousand orcs. Even if we send out all our elite troops, we still can't succeed."

After careful consideration, Kovina and Monterich both nodded in agreement.

Saina sighed and said, "Sigh, if only little Lorne could really glare at anyone and make them explode in the head."

Lorne: ? ? ?
