Chapter 71 Kovina's Slash Training
Chapter 71 Kovina's Slash Training
When Lorne and Nelly arrived at the training ground, they saw from afar that Kovina had already arrived.
Under the pale moonlight, a female paladin of the Sun Elf, clad in silver armor, stood among five training dummies, practicing her slashing techniques.
Sweat had soaked through her long, pale golden hair, and the entire elf was steaming.
Lorne gestured for Nelly to be quiet, and the two elves tiptoed to the sidelines without disturbing the paladin's practice.
Kovina, with her back to the two elves, was completely oblivious and focused on her practice.
She raised her sword high with both hands, focusing her attention as she slashed at the training dummy in front of her.
The moment the blade struck the dummy, a soft white light suddenly shone, enveloping both the blade and the dummy.
Lorne was curious as to why Kovina would use a training dummy to practice the Merciful Slash.
Shouldn't this be trained on live animals?
Besides, isn't Kovina already quite proficient at the Merciful Slash? Why does she need to practice it again?
Lorne activated his "Psionic Sensing" vision to carefully observe Kovina's psionic fluctuations.
Each time Kovina slashed, the blade would split into two weak streams of magic, locking onto two training dummies outside the main target.
This is clearly not the magical phenomenon that Merciful Slash should produce. Kovina is probably practicing a group slashing technique.
At one point, Kovina unleashed a strike, and the family member who was hit and another dummy that was not hit simultaneously emitted a soft white light.
System battle report: [Kovina cast [Split Slash - Merciful Slash] on training dummies A/B.]
System message: [Prerequisites not met; [Split Slash] cannot be learned.]
"It's done?" Kovina exclaimed in surprise, her eyes filled with uncertainty.
"Congratulations!" Lorne smiled and clapped.
Nelly clapped along.
Kovina was slightly startled and turned around to see Lorne and Nelly standing side by side on the sidelines, smiling and clapping at her.
"When did you arrive?" Kovina put away her weapon and stepped out of the dummy formation.
"It's been about fifteen minutes," Lorne told the truth.
"It's been that long? I didn't notice at all." Kovina looked embarrassed.
"You're too focused, we don't want to disturb you." Lorne pointed to the training dummies. "That was the Merciful Slash, right? But it hit two dummies at once?"
"Oh, it's a slashing technique called [Split Slash]. It allows you to hit multiple enemies at once when casting a slashing spell, spreading the damage evenly. It's a pity I haven't fully mastered it yet, otherwise I could teach you."
Lorne checked the detailed information of [Split Slash] through the system battle report.
[Split Slash] (Slashing Skill Level 5)
When you cast Spell Slash, it consumes an additional Quickcast action, which can distribute the damage evenly among up to 2 creatures within a radius (subclass level) of 1 meter.
Lorne glanced at the system identification information above Kovina's head again.
[Kovina, Sun Elf, Level 24 Paladin (Command Mastery Level 7, Oath Mastery Level 5, Slash Mastery Level 4, Aura Mastery Level 4, Divine Power Mastery Level 4), HP 420/420]
If all goes well, once Kovina fully masters the Split Slash, her slashing skill will reach level 5.
"How do you know when you've completely mastered it?" Lorne asked.
Kovina replied, "Being able to successfully cast all the slashing spells I've learned with 100% success rate using Split Slash means I've completely mastered it."
Lorne nodded. It seemed that the system's "prerequisites not met" message meant that he needed to learn a certain number of slashing spells first.
"How many more are you missing?" Lorne then asked.
"I'm only missing the Merciful Slash," Kovina said with a bitter face. "The Merciful Slash is very special. I can't refer to previous experiences, so I can only figure it out slowly on my own. Actually, half of that last move was a fluke."
Lorne nodded knowingly, thought for a moment, and said, "Try casting a Split Slash with another slashing spell; it might help. By the way, don't use Holy Slash."
Knowing that Lorne intended to save the Holy Slash for the moment he became a paladin, Kovina thought for a moment and asked, "How about Blazing Slash?"
"Okay." Lorne nodded.
Kovina walked back to the dummy formation, drew her hand sword, gripped it with both hands, and focused on slashing.
The moment the blade struck the dummy in front of it, both the dummy and the adjacent dummy reacted simultaneously and began to smolder.
[Kovina unleashed "Split Slash - Blazing Slash" on training dummies AB.]
[The prerequisites have not been met; [Split Slash] cannot be learned.]
You have learned [Blazing Slash].
【Blazing Slash】(Paladin)
One ring, shaping energy, swift spellcasting.
When a melee weapon hits a target, it deals an additional 1d6 fire damage and inflicts a smoldering status that lasts for up to 1 minute.
Until the spell ends, the target takes 1d6 fire damage at the start of each of its turns and makes a Constitution saving throw.
If the save fails, the spell continues to work; if it succeeds, the spell terminates.
Ascending Ring Casting:
For each level up, all damage dealt by this spell increases by 1d6 points.
Although Lorne had not learned the Split Slash, he had learned the Blazing Slash and the Merciful Slash. By comparing the two Split Slashes cast by Kovi through the high-dimensional observation perspective of psionic energy fluctuations, he easily found the differences between them.
But his intuition told him that comparing just two samples wasn't enough, so he asked Kovina, "Are there any other slashing spells?"
"Would Frost Slash work?"
Which ring road?
"The first ring road."
"Can."
So Kovina cast Frost Slash on the dummy again.
The moment the blade struck the primary target, a layer of frost simultaneously formed on the surfaces of both training dummies.
[Kovina cast [Split Slash - Frost Slash] on training dummies A/B.]
[The prerequisites have not been met; [Split Slash] cannot be learned.]
[You have learned Frost Slash].
Frost Slash (Paladin)
One ring, shaping energy, swift spellcasting.
When a melee weapon hits a target, it deals an additional 1d6 cold damage and inflicts a frostbite status for up to 1 minute.
Until the spell ends, the target will take 1d6 points of cold damage at the start of each of their turns and will have a Constitution saving throw.
If the save fails, the spell continues to work; if it succeeds, the spell terminates.
Ascending Ring Casting:
For each level up, all damage dealt by this spell increases by 1d6 points.
Lorne carefully recalled and compared the three split slashes, and then said to Kovina, "Blazing Slash and Frost Slash are both Evocation-type, so you pour all your magic into the weapon and use the weapon to perform split slashes."
"To give an analogy, your magic is like kerosene. The Evocation school is like pouring kerosene all over a weapon, igniting it, and then splashing it out with a slash."
"But Mercy Slash is a prophetic skill, so you should first pour most of the oil on the two targets, leaving only enough to ignite the weapon before splashing it."
Lorne's analogy was very vivid, and Kovina understood it immediately, but she didn't seem to have gained anything from it; instead, her expression became even more bitter.
"What's wrong?" Lorne asked.
Kovina smiled wryly, "That's what my mentor taught me too, but knowing doesn't mean you can do it, otherwise the training of professionals wouldn't be so difficult."
Lorne nodded knowingly: "You keep practicing, let me think of another way."
"Okay." Kovina continued practicing.
Lorne used his psychic senses to observe carefully, trying to find supernatural knowledge that could be helpful to him from the characteristics of psychics and martial artists.
Psionicists and martial artists are both professions that directly cultivate the "Tao".
In other words, it means "If you understand one method, you understand all methods."
Even if Kovina doesn't master either of those professions, learning even a little bit of the basics would be extremely beneficial.
All Lorne has to do now is translate the cryptic text into knowledge that Kovina can understand.
Fortunately, the MindNetwork made this job much easier.
"Okay, stop for a second," Lorne said to Kovina.
Kovina stopped practicing and looked at Lorne.
Lorne directly sent the cultivation secrets to Kovina via the mind network.
As Kovina absorbed this knowledge, her pupils dilated rapidly, as if a savage who had always lived in a dark cave was seeing the vast starry sky for the first time.
After she had fully digested this knowledge, she turned around and swung her sword at the training dummy without saying a word.
The moment the sword struck the dummy in front of them, a soft white light appeared on both dummy bodies simultaneously.
[Kovina cast "Split Slash - Compassion Slash" on training dummies AB.]
[Kovina has learned [Split Slash].]
"It's a success!" Kovina's eyes lit up, then her gaze became unfocused.
[Kovina has acquired the cultivation comprehension (Grandmaster) level, increasing her cultivation efficiency tenfold.]
Kovina's "Paladin" skill has been upgraded to level 25, and her "Slashing Skill" skill has been upgraded to level 5.
About three seconds later, she came to her senses, opened her eyes wide and looked at Lorne and Nelly, her voice trembling slightly with excitement: "I...I leveled up."
"Congratulations!" Lorne smiled and clapped.
Nelly clapped along.
You have learned the Mythology feat [Evangelism], gaining 50 x 10 experience. (510/1000)
[Preaching and Enlightenment] (Mythology Specialty)
Through spiritual communication, enlighten a wise being and enable them to acquire the legendary skill of [cultivating enlightenment].
[Cultivation Comprehension] has different levels, and the level that the enlightened one can learn is determined by the [Preacher's total professional level] and [one's own comprehension].
Lorne raised an eyebrow slightly.
This skill is pretty powerful. I need to find a chance to teach it to all the elves in the fortress before the war.
