On the mountain, Xiao Jin looked up, watching the dark figures flash by among the treetops.

She stood on tiptoe, waved her little hand, and shouted to the sky, "Hey—Xiao Jin is here—"

But her voice echoed through the dense forest like a pebble thrown into a deep pool, leaving no trace.

The drones flew high, and the tree canopy was so dense that the two small figures were completely swallowed up by the branches and leaves.

Fu Yuzhou also looked up, stamping his feet in frustration.

He bent down, wanting to pick up Xiao Jin and lift her up a little higher so that the drone could capture the shot.

But as soon as he wrapped his arms around Xiao Jin's waist and lifted her up with all his might, Xiao Jin didn't budge.

He tried again, his face turning red from straining, but then he slipped and fell on his bottom into a pile of fallen leaves.

Xiao Jin looked down at him and couldn't help but giggle.

Fu Yuzhou sat on the ground, both anxious and embarrassed, his ears burning red, muttering, "How...how can you be so heavy..."

"Xiao Jin isn't heavy!" Xiao Jin patted her little tummy indignantly, then squatted down, put her two little hands under Fu Yuzhou's armpits, and easily lifted him up. "See, Xiao Jin can carry you!"

Fu Yuzhou kicked his legs twice in mid-air, but before he could direct Xiao Jin to turn, Xiao Jin suddenly sniffed.

She paused for a moment, took two more deep breaths, and turned her head towards the direction downhill.

Fu Yuzhou, being held up by her, also sniffed the air, looking bewildered: "Xiao Jin, what's wrong?"

"It's curry." Xiao Jin's eyes lit up instantly.

Twenty minutes ago, at the foot of the mountain, it was already getting dark.

Standing beside the search and rescue team, Yun Zi'ang gazed at the increasingly dark forest, then suddenly stopped and turned to Yun Ziqian, saying, "Brother, I've thought of a way."

Yun Ziqian, who was using a walkie-talkie to coordinate manpower, looked up upon hearing this: "What's the plan?"

"Let's cook," Yun Zi'ang said. "Let's cook at the foot of the mountain. The aroma of the food can travel far, and Xiao Jin will come running back as soon as she smells it."

Yun Ziqian looked at him, remained silent for two seconds, and then showed a rare expression of speechlessness and helplessness: "Xiao Jin isn't a dog."

"We'll try anything, even if it's a last resort!" Yun Zi'ang's eyes reddened with anxiety. "If it gets completely dark, the mountain paths will be impassable, and the search and rescue teams will be completely lost. The curry smell is strong, and Xiao Jin had curry chicken yesterday; she has a very sensitive nose. What if?"

Yun Ziqian looked at him for two more seconds, then turned to the person next to him and said, "Go, move the pots from the factory down and find some stones to build a stove. Be quick."

Not long after, a large pot was set up on the open ground at the foot of the mountain.

Someone rummaged through the car and found several jars of curry sauce, a bag of potatoes, and several boxes of chicken. They poured everything into a pot, added water, and set it on a makeshift stove to cook.

Flames licked the bottom of the pot, and the water quickly began to bubble and boil. The rich aroma of curry rose with the steam and was carried up the mountain by the mountain breeze.

Yun Ziang squatted beside the pot, stirring the curry in it with a stick, his eyes fixed on the road leading up the mountain.

It was completely dark. The beams of flashlights swayed back and forth in the mountains and forests. Search and rescue teams went up wave after wave, but the message coming back from the walkie-talkie was always "not found yet."

As he stirred, he suddenly felt his eyes sting and tears fell, landing on the stone beside the pot.

He wiped his face haphazardly with his sleeve and continued stirring.

Suddenly, the bushes next to me twitched.

Immediately afterwards, a dusty little head emerged from the bushes, with a few broken leaves and two withered branches on its head. Its little face was covered in dust, except for its eyes, which shone brightly.

Another small head popped out from behind her, equally covered in dust and panting, still calling out, "Xiao Jin, wait for me—"

Yun Zi'ang suddenly stood up.

He saw the dusty little face clearly, his lips trembled, and he called out in a hoarse voice, "Xiao Jin!"

Xiao Jin also saw him.

Her eyes lit up, and she jumped out of the bushes, running towards this place on her short legs.

Yun Ziang opened his arms and rushed forward, squatting down to try and hug her.

But Xiao Jin ran up to him, ducked down, and slipped under his arm like a slippery little fish.

Yun Ziang missed his target. When he turned around, he saw that Xiao Jin had already gone straight for the big pot.

"Curry!" Xiao Jin leaned over the pot, tiptoeing to peek inside, her saliva almost dripping in. "Xiao Jin smells curry! Xiao Jin wants to eat!"

Fu Yuzhou followed behind her and finally caught up, panting heavily as he held his knees.

He looked up at Yun Zi'ang, then at the stunned adults around him, and whispered, "She...she ran too fast..."

Yun Ziang stood there stunned for a second, then rushed over in three steps, scooped Xiao Jin up from the edge of the pot, ignoring the ash covering her face, and held her tightly in his arms.

Xiao Jin was so tightly embraced by him that she could hardly breathe. She pressed her face against his shoulder, still craning her neck to look into the pot: "Grand-nephew, the curry is burning... Xiao Jin is hungry..."

Yun Ziang buried his face in her messy hair, his shoulders shaking several times, before finally managing to squeeze out a muffled sentence:

"You little ingrate, I've been looking for you all afternoon, and the first thing you do when you get back is eat."

Xiao Jin reached out her little hand and patted his back, just like he usually comforted her: "Don't cry, grand-nephew, Xiao Jin is back."

She paused, then added softly, "Is the curry really safe to eat?"

Yun Ziang was so angry at her that he laughed. He picked her up, stood up, and turned to walk towards the pot.

Fu Yuzhou stood still, his hands still in the same position as when he was supporting his knees.

He looked up at Xiao Jin, who was being carried away by Yun Ziang, then looked down at his mud-covered body and scraped hands, and suddenly didn't know where to go.

On the mountain, he followed Xiaojin closely. When she ran, he ran; when she stopped, he stopped. He had only one thought in his mind—don't fall behind.

Now that Xiao Jin has been taken away, he feels like he's lost a pillar of support, standing alone in the empty ground, surrounded by adults running around and flashlight beams waving.

Someone spotted him.

A young man in a black suit ran over first, squatted down, and asked urgently and cautiously, "Are you the young master of the Fu family? Are you injured? Where does it hurt?"

Fu Yuzhou didn't speak, he just shook his head.

More people gathered around, asking questions all at once. Someone shouted into a walkie-talkie, "Notify President Fu, the children have been found! Yes, both children have been found!"

Fu Yuzhou was surrounded and listened to the sounds coming from all directions. Suddenly, he felt it was very noisy.

He took a step back, then another, and his back bumped into a crooked tree.

He slowly squatted down against the tree, buried his face in his knees, and gripped his trouser legs tightly with both hands.

He didn't know how much time had passed.

It may have only been a few minutes, but it felt like an eternity to him.

Then he heard a series of hurried footsteps, a sound unlike anyone else's—fast, heavy, and even a little unsteady.

He looked up and saw a person running from the foot of the mountain. The person's suit jacket was nowhere to be seen, the shirt sleeves were rolled up in a mess, the forehead was covered in sweat, the hair was disheveled, and the expression on the face was one he had never seen before.

Fu Zongxu.

Fu Yuzhou stared at him blankly.

In his memory, his father was always the man who buttoned his shirt to the top, walked with a brisk pace, and spoke concisely and calmly.

He had never seen Fu Zongxu like this before.

He ran so fast, so disheveled, that he even stumbled on the road and almost fell, but he steadied himself and continued rushing forward.

Fu Zongxu rushed to Fu Yuzhou, squatted down, and pulled him into his arms.

The force was so great that Fu Yuzhou felt as if his bones were about to be crushed, but he couldn't break free. His father's arm was trembling, very slightly, but he could feel it.

He smelled Fu Zongxu's scent—the smell of sweat, the astringent smell of crushed mountain grass, mixed with his usual cologne, creating a strange, tearful aroma.

"Zhouzhou." Fu Zongxu's voice was very low, almost inaudible.

Fu Yuzhou finally burst into tears. It wasn't the silent, lip-biting sob he had heard in the cave before, but a loud, uncontrollable cry that burst from his throat.

He clutched Fu Zongxu's shirt with both little hands, buried his face in his chest, his shoulders trembling as he cried, his whole body shaking.

He cried so loudly that he drowned out the voices around him.

Some people quieted down, some turned their heads away, and Yun Ziqian stood a few steps away, watching this scene without stepping forward.

Fu Zongxu hugged him tightly, placing one hand on the back of his head and patting it gently.

Only when Fu Yuzhou's crying changed from wailing to sobbing did he relax a little and look down at his son's face.

Fu Yuzhou's eyes were swollen, his nose was red, and his face was covered in tear stains and dirt, looking disheveled and pitiful.

"Is your leg injured?" Fu Zongxu asked, his voice still a little hoarse.

Fu Yuzhou shook his head, sobbing.

"Where are your hands?"

He shook his head again.

Fu Zongxu reached out and wiped away the tear stains on his face, then picked a withered leaf from his hair and tossed it away.

Then he stood up and picked Fu Yuzhou up from the ground.

Fu Yuzhou hugged his neck, rested his little head on his shoulder, and gradually stopped crying.

He looked over his father's shoulder and saw that not far away, next to a big pot, Xiao Jin was holding a bowl, shoveling curry into her mouth with her cheeks puffed out. Yun Ziang was squatting next to her, holding a tissue, wiping her face while muttering something.

Fu Yuzhou suddenly whispered, "Dad."

"Um."

"Xiao Jin saved me today."

Fu Zongxu paused for a moment.

He turned his head to look at the pot and Xiao Jin. Xiao Jin looked up at him, waved a spoonful of curry at him, and mumbled something with a mouthful of rice in her mouth, probably calling them to come and eat.

Fu Zongxu looked at her for two seconds, then said to Fu Yuzhou in his arms, "Then you should thank her properly."

Fu Yuzhou buried his face in his shoulder again and mumbled an "Mmm".

Fu Zongxu carried him and walked towards the curry pot.

The night breeze blew from the foot of the mountain, carrying the aroma of curry far and wide, mingling with the scents of earth and grass, slowly spreading across the open space.
