After a delightful dinner of noodles with soybean paste, the Singapore delegation returned to their accommodations.

This is the former luxury hotel on Lanai Island, now renovated. It faces the beautiful coastline, boasts stunning scenery and complete facilities, and the infinity pool seems to beckon the delegation members to come and enjoy themselves.

But none of them were in the mood for it; they continued the meeting like beasts of burden until midnight.

Although Chen Yiran's proposed plan was very bold, it did not exceed their original tactical plan, and they still had contingency plans for it.

In the most extreme scenario outlined in the tactical plan, the new cabinet's contingency plan at the time was to discuss it further later, believing that they would have better ideas in the future!

So now a bunch of people are frantically drinking coffee, cursing their past selves for coming unprepared. If they had prepared a contingency plan beforehand, they could be enjoying a beach vacation right now!

After several hours of back and forth, neither group could convince the other.

Khaw Boon Jin is the Minister for National Development, overseeing Singapore's Urban Redevelopment Authority, Housing & Development Board, and land allocation issues. He was the most vocal at the beginning of the meeting, but after being rebuked for a while, he fell silent and simply retreated to the side.

Now that he'd been directly called out, he sighed and said, "I know what you're saying is true, and I believe this could be a very good opportunity. But from my personal perspective, we simply don't have enough space. To put it bluntly, even if 550 million people never die, we'll never have enough houses!"

Our area is already small, and now we need to build a data center. In the future, if we really agree to Chen Yiran's proposal, we'll have to build a dedicated data center and trading center.

Where does the land come from?

You're all giving me lectures, but I won't ask any of that. I'll say it again: our department doesn't oppose it, but we don't agree with it either.

Unless you conjure up some land for me!

Xu Wenjin's words spurred a group of people to start talking about the risks of the plan. They didn't directly oppose it, but rather discussed the drawbacks based on their own ideas.

Minister for Communications and Information Yahya Pradesh mentioned the Personal Data Protection Act, a new law that came into full effect in Singapore in July 2014. He said that it is alarming that Aurora Group has access to the whole brain data of Singaporeans, which is essentially a direct challenge to this law.

Several financial heavyweights, including executives from the Monetary Authority of Singapore and Temasek, have expressed concern about such a massive liquidation plan.

Temasek CEO Ho Ching also bluntly stated: "To summarize, we all know that this is an opportunity. We also believe that if Singapore can truly become the world's information settlement center, Singapore may gain some advantages in the turbulent future."

However, I personally am uncertain whether Singapore can withstand this wave of wealth. Using human lives as currency is, in any sense, highly incompatible with modern people's concepts of freedom and democracy.

Which countries will directly oppose this? How will religious countries view us? What will the US reaction be? Although Chen Yiran deliberately limited our settlement scope to Asia, it seems to have left an opening for the US.

However, interest rates are very likely, or rather, will challenge the dollar's hegemonic status.

That's for sure; no currency in human history can compare to interest. Will the Americans turn against Aurora then? Or, to put it another way, does Aurora have the power to get the Americans on board?

Where there are conservatives, there are also more radicals.

Health Minister Gan Kim Yong said calmly, "You've all mentioned the objective difficulties, so I'll also mention them. Minister Xu just mentioned the land issue, right?"

Have you all forgotten about our current newborn situation? Our fertility rate is declining year by year, currently at 1.25, which is already an extremely low fertility rate! At the current rate, in another ten years, our fertility rate may even drop below 0.9! We are about to become a super-aged society!

Tell me how to solve this?

This is a golden opportunity! We no longer have to worry about the population problem! The aging problem has also been solved! You've all seen how Claude Doffin is after his rebirth.

That's a robot! It has unlimited energy! Its work capacity is at its maximum, making many mechanical operations even easier.

This is the future! This is the high ground! If we don't seize it, we'll be left behind. All the problems you're raising seem irrelevant to me. There's no such thing as a risk-free, all-encompassing business!

In short, my bottom line is that if this ultimately cannot be achieved, then you should find a way to get the aurora borealis to provide us with one of Singapore's 5.5 million new student places.

Minister for Trade and Industry Lim Hsun Kiong also expressed his support, saying, "I know that everyone read some science fiction books from decades ago in preparation for this negotiation, but the science fiction fantasies of that time are different from reality."

People naturally admire underdogs who rise to the top and ordinary heroes, which is why most science fiction novels depict this theme. However, personally, I believe that looking at the immediate future, we have no reason to reject the aurora borealis.

Aurora is a Singapore-based company. If you don't agree now, they're planning to move out. Have you thought about the consequences?

All those chipmakers, engineers, and data centers that have provided us with so many jobs are gone!

One more thing, I just mentioned Mr. Claude Doffin. You don't think he's just representing himself, do you? His leading role is quite significant; many of Trafigura's shareholders are quite old.

From a company structure perspective, Trafigura Group is more like a giant corporation from a science fiction novel than Aurora Group. They are very likely to take over the entire mechanical transformation of Aurora Group!

Here's the problem: Trafigura is also a company registered in Singapore! This means that if we don't handle this properly, we could very well lose them in the future.

And let me remind you, Chen Yiran is from Beijing, no matter what! I don't really believe the Chinese government would agree to him doing these things in China.

But what about Hong Kong? It's not impossible that they might open a back door for Chen Yiran in Hong Kong. How should we deal with that?

With the development of AI, the economic model is no longer what it used to be, and the financial industry no longer needs to form large financial markets in multiple locations to address time zone issues.

If Hong Kong joins, we could be kicked out! Make a decision!

-----------------------------------

A few days later.

In the virtual world known as the Oasis, Lin Weiming and his mother are playing squash.

This was a sport my mother used to enjoy. I heard she started playing it because my father wanted to curry favor with his boss. But who knew that the boss would soon change his interests and start playing golf.

Later, his father told him that his boss was actually just trying to curry favor with those in power, which was why he kept changing jobs.

After a while, the mother stopped first and said with a smile, "The system is reminding me again, telling me I can't exercise anymore."

Lin Weiming felt a little sad. ALS is still very complicated. After the body can no longer move, the ability to use imagination will compensate twice as much. If the Wanderer is not restricted, it may cause damage.

His mother noticed his sadness and smiled, saying, "I'm doing quite well. Think about your father; he didn't even get this kind of treatment when he died. I never dared to imagine that I would be able to use this high-tech equipment and play squash again before I die."

Lin Weiming frowned as he followed his mother toward the restaurant: "Don't be so pessimistic. Why are you dying? Look, because of your illness, we were able to get a Wanderer through the queue. Maybe medical insurance will even cover newborns in the future."

"Stop dreaming. How much would that cost per person? How much would that cost for the whole of Singapore? The government doesn't have that much money to waste."

Upon entering the restaurant, they greeted people familiarly. These patients were basically from the same section within the Oasis, and they had made quite a few friends during this time.

Although eating in the virtual world only sends various signals to the brain, the authorities still do not recommend overeating.

However, the group of terminally ill patients didn't listen much, and the practice of overeating and drinking was very common here, since it was all cheap and ridiculously inexpensive anyway.

Lin Weiming was forced by his elderly mother to follow the official advice, so he ate only his normal portion size, looking at his mother with a hint of resentment.

"Don't look at me with those puppy eyes of yours. It's no use looking at me. As Aurora said, binge eating in the virtual world can easily cause health problems in real life, since it's a kind of stimulation to the brain."

Lin Weiming looked helplessly at the table in front of his mother, which was filled with hairy crabs, Australian lobsters, mantis shrimp, Buddha Jumps Over the Wall, Wagyu beef, and pizza.

"Then you should be more careful, you're eating way too much."

"I'm practically dead! I don't eat just anything."

Lin Weiming began to daydream again. He wished his mother could be reborn. Rebirths using wet brains were said to be without such limitations. If problems arose, they could just add some new neurons to replenish them.

After they had eaten and drunk their fill, the two of them watched TV in the restaurant, both of them somewhat silent.

Lin Weiming was actually feeling hungry. The Wanderer's brain-computer interface did not block his actual physical sensations. Unlike his mother, his health was not something that could be restored by simply drinking a couple of sips of porridge or getting an injection in bed. He had to go out to eat.

But he didn't want to log out; there was no such heartwarming scene outside, only his immobile mother at home.

It was the elderly mother who was the first to emerge from her somewhat sad mood, saying, "You should go offline and eat. I'll watch TV here. Watching TV here won't tire you out; you don't have to strain your eyes like that."

"I'll stay with you a little longer."

Just then, the movie playing on the restaurant's TV suddenly stopped and was interrupted by breaking news.

The government's press conference has begun.
