As expected, the two, exhausted from their journey and the ensuing chaos, slept until noon.

Chen Yiran actually woke up a few times during the night, but had no motivation to get up and decided to go back to sleep.

I dawdled in bed, too lazy to go out, so I called room service and ordered two steaks.

It was already past 1 a.m. after we finished eating, so we dawdled before checking out and continuing our journey.

From Santa Barbara to Santiago, this time without any stops along the way, the Wild Rush took only three and a half hours.

The hotel I booked was the Grant Luxury Collection Hotel, located in the city center.

This is a century-old establishment that opened in 1910 and is named after US President Grant. It has hosted many political figures and celebrities throughout history, including various US presidents and foreign prime ministers; even Einstein stayed here.

To celebrate its centennial, the hotel temporarily closed for several years and underwent a major renovation, now retaining its original style while remaining modern enough.

The location is also excellent, situated in the Gaslamp Quarter, making it convenient to go anywhere. It's only an eight-minute drive to the San Diego Zoo.

Gaslamp Quarter is located in downtown San Diego, where Victorian buildings have been converted into a street lined with bars, restaurants, and shops.

The Mexican food here is generally quite good, as Santiago is close enough to Mexico to be considered a local specialty. The tacos, burritos, and guacamole are all very authentic.

After eating there, Chen Yiran and Hannah felt it wasn't as good as what they had in Silicon Valley, perhaps because it was too authentic.

After a night's rest and recuperation, the two were full of energy and got up at seven o'clock the next day. Hannah was so excited that she didn't even want to eat breakfast and wanted to leave immediately, but Chen Yiran stopped her. He gave her a good talking-to about the importance of food for survival.

After having breakfast, at eight o'clock in the morning, the two got into a white van waiting at the hotel entrance.

This is one of the zoo's services, providing shuttle service in the morning and evening. The driver was a Latino guy, always smiling. Upon seeing them, he immediately gave them badges and a few small gifts, making them feel very welcome.

"Wear this, and you can go anywhere in the park."

Chen Yiran glanced at it; it read "Exclusive VIP Experience".

The car drove directly to the zoo's staff entrance, bypassing the queue and security check at the main entrance. A middle-aged woman in a uniform was already waiting, her name tag reading Sandra. She introduced herself as a zoologist with over twenty years of experience, and that she was the two of them's personal guide for the day.

There was also a four-seater electric sightseeing vehicle parked next to it, equipped with a sunshade and a refrigerator.

"Get in the car. You're in charge of the pace today. You can tell me where you want to go," Sandra said.

Before Chen Yiran could react, Hannah had already sat down, taking out sparkling water from the refrigerator, and said without hesitation, "Let's look at the panda first!"

Sandra seemed to have anticipated this, and said with a smile, "Alright, first stop, Panda Canyon."

Panda Canyon is the only exhibition area in the park with a one-way visitor route, dedicated staff to manage the length of stay, and real-time updates to the queue signs.

On weekdays, the queue can last for at least half an hour, while on weekends it's usually at least an hour, and during summer vacation or peak seasons, two hours is not uncommon. Even if you only get to stay for three to five minutes after getting in line, it doesn't dampen people's enthusiasm for the pandas. Yunzi, a male cub born in August 2009, made his first public appearance this January, further solidifying the area's popularity.

Bypassing the long queue at the public entrance, Sandra led them through the staff entrance directly to the VIP viewing area, where there were already several people, all of whom had purchased VIP tickets.

Three giant pandas. Baiyun, a nineteen-year-old female panda, is slowly peeling bamboo, taking two bites of each piece before throwing it away, and then peeling another one.

Gao Gao, a male panda, is doing something, but you can only see his furry butt sticking out from behind a rock.

Yunzi, currently the most popular animal celebrity in the United States. The little guy is flipping around on the tree branch like a fluffy ball, sometimes hanging upside down and sometimes rolling around on the grass, which draws shouts from outside.

When Chen Yiran visited this park in her previous life, it was during summer vacation. The huge "2 hours" sign at Panda Canyon stunned the group. A few Chinese people, queuing for two hours in America to see pandas? They decisively decided to turn back, but still reluctantly took the cable car. The park's cable car happened to pass through Panda Canyon, and if you were lucky, you could see pandas in an area that wasn't closed off.

However, Chen Yiran and his friends weren't lucky that time and didn't see any. But Chen Yiran wasn't too disappointed; he wasn't a big panda enthusiast and didn't have that much of an addiction.

This time, there was no queue, so we could take our time and have a great experience, especially with the adorable baby pandas that were less than a year old. Yunzi fell from a tree branch, rolled on the ground, got up, and continued playing, walking with a waddling gait.

After staying there for more than ten minutes, Hannah was already leaning on the railing, unwilling to leave: "It's so cute! Why can't more be bred? It would be so nice to keep them as pets."

Chen Yiran had finished taking photos, and his true nature as a scumbag had been revealed. He felt he had seen enough and wanted to leave.

Then I realized it was a good thing Hannah bought the park tickets this time, otherwise it would have been a huge loss. It's a bit awkward to have to pay so much to see pandas from your own country.

After much persuasion, Hannah was finally convinced to leave the panda area. After all, she could come back and see the pandas after the park closed at night, which is what super VIPs do.

Sandra asked where the next stop was.

Hannah answered without hesitation, "Koala, of course it's a koala."

Koalas and pandas are the two biggest attractions in San Diego, home to the world's largest koala population outside of Australia. Sandra led them into a koala breeding area that is not open to the public.

Disinfect yourself and put on gloves before entering.

A dozen or so koalas were scattered on various tree branches. They were all sleeping.

One of the zookeepers introduced, "This is our star koala, named Milo. She's very gentle, and you can gently pet her back."

Milo was curled up on a tree branch, its gray fur fluffy, its ears round, and its nose black, like a plush toy. But it didn't move at all, its eyes tightly closed.

Chen Yiran reached out and touched Milo's back. The fur was coarser than he had imagined, somewhat like wool. Milo didn't react at all, not even moving its ears.

"How long do they sleep each day?" Chen Yiran asked.

"Twenty to twenty-two hours."

"What are you going to do during those two hours when you're awake?"

"Eat eucalyptus leaves, then find another tree to sleep under."

Milo happened to open one eye and glance at Chen Yiran, then closed it again.

How should I put it, that look in his eyes was like, "Why aren't you leaving yet?"

"So basically it's all about eating and sleeping," Chen Yiran said.

"right."

"Hannah, look, just like you."

Chen Yiran received a level one heavy punch from Hannah, which raised the severity of the attack to another level.

Hannah squatted down to look at a koala named Buster, which was even worse. It was sprawled out on the branch, belly up, with its paws dangling and hooked on the twig. One side of its fur was fluffy, and the other side was shriveled, like a rag doll that hadn't been wrung out of a washing machine.

The zookeeper said Buster is the laziest koala in the whole park. He's too lazy to even eat and has to ask the zookeeper to put eucalyptus leaves in his mouth.

The zookeeper also explained, "Koalas have very small brains, only 0.2% the size of a human brain, and their surface is smooth without any wrinkles. It's one of the most rudimentary brains among mammals."

As they were talking, Buster moved. It slowly stretched out its paw, grabbed a eucalyptus leaf, chewed it a couple of times, and then stopped moving again.

The whole process takes ten seconds.

The fact that this creature has survived to this day is a testament to Australia's excellent matching system.

I don't know if this stuff tastes good. If it were in China, any dynasty that experienced a famine would have eaten them all.

After leaving the koala enclosure, we visited the Elephant Odyssey and the Polar Bear Beach.

The Elephant Odyssey exhibit was newly opened last year. Sandra took them backstage to watch the keepers give the elephants a check-up, using a stethoscope that was smaller than one of the elephant's toes. Polar bears swam around in the water, and through the glass, you could see their huge paws paddling, propelling them several meters at a time.

Then she fed the giraffe. Hannah held a branch above her head, and the giraffe lowered its head and flicked its half-foot-long tongue with precision, like surgical forceps. Hannah flinched, but the branch was still snatched away.

"Its tongue is purple!" Hannah exclaimed.

Chen Yiran knew this; she had learned it from watching videos in her past life, so she had absolutely no intention of feeding him. The long, purple tongue was really disgusting.

We strolled around until noon and had lunch at Albert's restaurant in the park. The private room overlooked the tropical garden, and the view and food were quite nice.

In the afternoon, their enthusiasm for the monkey forest and reptile house wasn't as high as it had been in the morning. There was also an endangered species breeding center where they saw the California condor, a massive creature with a three-meter wingspan, which had almost gone extinct but was rescued. But it really is ugly; no wonder it's not very well-known.

Humans are visual creatures, and those who are popular are generally cute. After wandering around all afternoon, the park finally closed, and it was the time Hannah had been most looking forward to, a time for her to enjoy her super VIP privileges.

Before the park closed, the two went to the VIP rest area, where Kathy Hawk, the chief panda keeper, was there. She shared some of the pandas' personality traits with them, told them the behind-the-scenes details of the evening panda feeding process, and began preparations for the special closing ceremony.

At 5 p.m., the park closed and began clearing the area. Kathy and Sandra led the two of them through the staff entrance to the zookeepers' designated observation area, which was just a few meters away from the pandas.

This time of day is the pandas' regular evening feeding period, and it's another peak activity period for them besides the early morning. Kathy began to explain each panda's dietary preferences, health status, interesting stories about their growth, and even showed some panda health checkup data.

Afterwards, Kathy took the two of them on a tour of the backstage feeding area, the panda's nighttime roosting area, the medical examination area, and the dedicated bamboo storage room.

Hannah was very serious, as if she wanted to work here in the future.

It wasn't until six o'clock that the two of them left the park with their bags and packages.

In addition to some plush toys, the park also gave out official commemorative postcards, a commemorative album of giant panda breeding, and a commemorative certificate of visit signed by the zookeepers.

Hannah was still a little unsatisfied and began to plan with Chen Yiran how to get to touch the panda in China and what procedures to follow.

Just then, Chen Yiran's phone vibrated. It was a notification from his home security camera that a car had been detected at the door.

Chen Yiran was a little excited because the image on the screen showed a TED car.

TED knew he was out having fun, so he stopped in front of his house for a while before leaving.

Besides the fact that she insidiously obtained his hourly lawyer's fee, this should also mean that there has been a result on the acquisition side.
