Game of Thrones: Dance of the Dragons

Chapter 23 My dear uncle, how could you be so kind?

Back in his room, Baylor saw Larry's raven by the window, the familiar letter still tied to its right leg.

He walked over with practiced ease, and the moment he saw the message, his usually calm heart began to leap with excitement.

The letter, as requested by Baylor, was simple and quick, consisting of only one line:

It has been confirmed that the Glutton has been loitering around Dragonstone for the past seven days, raising the alarm of Vomisol and Silverwing.

Baylor's expression was perfectly calm; he had already had a vague guess in his mind when the acting lord uttered his deduction.

While it's true that the Glutton is the most powerful wild dragon, Vormisor and Silverwing are also representatives of the Targaryen family's strongest fighting force.

What's more, they're a husband and wife, a perfect one against two.

Let alone the gluttons, even Vaghar would suffer a great defeat in front of these two dragons.

"Alas, what a pity, we still haven't been able to pinpoint the Glutton's exact location," Baylor sighed softly.

He then placed the paper next to the candle and lit it. After it burned completely, he threw the pieces out the window.

"Knock knock knock—"

"Your Highness, Prince Damon has come to visit."

"They say they have come on the king's orders to impart their experience and knowledge in dragon taming to you," Ilik replied respectfully.

Baylor glanced at the clock on the wall and declined, saying, "It's too late now. Please tell me tomorrow."

Ilik replied to Prince Damon in the same way.

Damon remained unperturbed, placing his hands on his lower abdomen and saying, "This is the King's personal order, Ser Ilic. Do you dare disobey?"

The Kingsguard are loyal to the King; disobeying the King's orders is tantamount to betraying the honor they take pride in.

However, taking care of and protecting the young Prince Baylor was also an order given by the King.

"Let him in, Sir Illic."

Not wanting to put his loyal knight in a difficult position, Baylor took the initiative to speak.

"Yes, Your Highness!"

Illick opened the door, but indicated that Damon must hand over the accessories first.

"Why are you so wary? Would I ever hurt my own nephew?" Damon was clearly amused.

Ilik spoke earnestly, "Prince Damon, I don't know what kind of person you are, but my mission is to protect the prince."

"I must provide the highest level of protection against any weapon that could pose a threat to him!"

Damon didn't bother arguing with him. After handing the Dark Sisters over to him, he was able to enter Baylor's room without any trouble.

Upon entering, Damon saw Baylor reading some history books written in the ancient Valyrian language.

"Read fewer books."

"I think your father doesn't want you to become the next Grand Maester Vigen," Damon said, unusually adopting the demeanor of a good uncle.

"Good uncle, how can you know yourself and your enemy in battle without reading more books?"

These were the words Baylor saw in his dream. He found them incredibly apt for describing combat and learning.

Damon knew this kid was quick-witted.

Otherwise, Alison, who is always good at arguing, wouldn't have needed to take the initiative to cooperate with him.

"Your father, let me teach you some knowledge about taming dragons."

"I know you're tired, and so am I. Let's finish this quickly."

Baylor nodded and gestured for Damon to begin.

"To tame a dragon, you need to fully understand its personality and habits."

"Take Vormisor as an example. Its temperament is extremely volatile and restless, which is a great test of the courage of the dragon rider."

"If you want to tame it, you must never be timid, and you must never run away."

"And Silverwing..."

Baylor listened intently.

One has to admire that, although his good uncle Damon is unrestrained and often rebellious, he is worthy of the title of dragon knight.

such a pity……

If Uncle Good hadn't met with Allison in private and hadn't uttered such treasonous words as "Crown Prince for a day."

Perhaps they will become a good uncle and nephew?

……

As the explanation drew to a close, Damon got up to leave the room.

Instead of sitting, Baylor got out of bed out of politeness, ready to see him off.

"No need. Just remember my words and train the dragon well," Damon waved his hand.

"I will," Baylor nodded in response.

Whether it was a sudden pang of conscience or not, the moment Damon grasped the doorknob, he stopped his movement to open the door and turned to look at Baylor behind him.

"Be extremely careful when taming dragons."

"Also, the Dragon Guard will send information about the dragon tomorrow. If you're really unsure, you can wait a bit longer, or try to find out more information."

"This will do you no good."

Baylor was clearly surprised.

He knew something about Allison and Damon's private meeting and guessed that they might use this opportunity to stop him from taming the dragon, or create some plausible accident.

However, judging from his uncle's reaction and attitude, was he reminding him that there might be problems with the news about the dragon tomorrow?

Baylor couldn't quite grasp Damon's thoughts.

It's unclear whether he was genuinely trying to remind me, or whether he was using this opportunity to make me doubt myself...

"Uncle, why are you suddenly so concerned about me? This isn't like you at all!"

Baylor maintained a smile on the surface, but his eyes and words betrayed undisguised suspicion.

"Really? I think I care about my dear nephew quite a bit."

"After all, you're the eldest son my brother has been waiting for for ten whole years. If you were healthy, that bitch Allison wouldn't have had so many wicked thoughts."

Damon's meaning is clear: the root of the problem lies in your poor health.

Prince looked at him coldly. "How are you any better than the Queen?"

"Calling your newborn nephew 'King Chu for One Day,' dear uncle, is this what you call concern?"

Baylor, of course, understood what he meant.

Moreover, he not only remembered it, but he has held a grudge ever since.

If it weren't for the curse that kills one's relatives, Beller wouldn't mind killing his good uncle with his own hands and handing over his dragon Koracchus to a family member he trusted.

"I apologize, but I don't admit I was wrong."

"Because once it's said, it's said, there's no reason to take it back." That's the kind of person Damon is.

Complex and rebellious, yet deeply loyal to his family and Viserys.

Moreover, his conquest of the Stepstone Islands was not entirely driven by ambition. If the Kingdom of the Three Daughters were to advance further, Dorne across the Channel would pose a serious threat to the Targaryen dynasty's rule.

His father, Viserys, did not like the stressful war and preferred negotiation and peace.

This is precisely the main reason why the Kingdom of the Three Daughters and Dorne dared to secretly plot against each other.
