Game of Thrones: Dance of the Dragons
Chapter 24 The Witch of Assassin
Damon left the room.
Ser Illician also returned the Dark Sisters to his hands.
After Prince Damon left, Helena carefully approached Baylor's room, carrying a thick storybook.
"Sir Illic, please let me in."
"My brother promised me that if I can't sleep at night, I can ask him to tell me a story!"
"This..." Ilik hesitated.
Since the prince just said he needed to rest, if he were to push the door open and go in, would the prince hold a grudge...?
"It's alright, please let me in. My brother definitely won't punish you, I promise!"
Helena imitated the adults and earnestly patted her chest.
"Ilik, who's outside?" Baylor asked.
"It's Princess Helena. She said she wants you to tell her a story," Ilik replied respectfully.
Telling a story?
Baylor was somewhat bewildered.
It was one thing for this girl to pester me before, but to come over in the middle of the night like this is unacceptable.
If Renilla and the doting Alison found out about this, Baylor felt he'd be in deep trouble, if not dead!
Considering the outcome, Beller made a decisive choice: "My Helena, my dear sister, it's too late now. Can we tell this story tomorrow?"
"You lied to me, brother!"
"You said before that if I can't sleep, I can come and listen to your stories!" Helena's voice suddenly became tearful.
Beller quickly opened the door and carried the little girl, Helena, inside.
"Sigh, I really can't do anything with you."
"Go ahead, tell me, what story do you want me to tell?"
"The Legend of Ice and Fire that you didn't finish telling me last time." Helena put the book aside and leaned against her brother's chest.
Baylor frowned slightly.
To be honest, he knew about this legend from some ancient books in the old town and from his father. He hadn't figured out how to weave it into a story to lull a child to sleep yet.
After thinking about it, he felt that he could make some appropriate changes to the legend of the "prince in prophecy".
"The land of smoke and salt has been reborn; to raise up the radiant and scorching messenger of light, a dragon is needed..."
Baylor tried his best to make the legend sound like magic, mysterious and unpredictable, yet something that made people think deeply.
Helena listened intently, sometimes blinking her excited eyes, and sometimes lowering her head to speak in words that Baylor couldn't understand.
A dozen minutes later, it was almost over.
Baylor glanced at the water clock on the table and gently patted Helena's head.
"That's all for today's story. It's time for you to go to sleep, Helena."
"But brother, what you said isn't right!"
"I see! A true dragon is never afraid of fire, because he is reborn from fire!" Helena earnestly corrected her mistake.
Beller clearly remembered that Helena had repeated something similar during the last time he told a story.
If it's stubbornness, then there's obviously no need to repeat it multiple times.
"Helena, tell your brother, where did you see it?"
"And who is this dragon you're talking about?" Baylor asked, looking down.
Helena looked up, a smile spreading across her face, and said, almost boastfully, "It's you, brother!"
"I saw it with my own eyes in my dream: you were on fire, and then you turned into a huge, enormous dragon!"
Helena gestured exaggeratedly. From her description, it was as if Baylor was a being more mysterious than magic.
"Alright, alright, now you need to go to sleep, or your brother will turn into a giant dragon and eat you up in one bite!"
Beller picked up Helena, preparing to get up and take the little girl back to her room so she wouldn't have to turn back halfway.
Helena wasn't afraid at all and happily rubbed against Beller's face.
After taking Helena back to her room, Beller also went back to his own room to rest.
The next morning, after breakfast, Baylor, along with Renilla, Helena, and their good Uncle Damon, went to the dragon's lair to check on the situation.
Incidentally, I'll first make a tentative contact with Silverwing, who has the gentlest personality.
Aegon didn't come because Allison was very worried about him going with Baylor and the others. If something happened to her son, the Hightoar family would be truly finished.
As for Helena, Allison is having trouble controlling this little girl now. Even if she's told not to go, the girl will still sneak off on her own.
Alison, in her capacity as queen, had no choice but to arrange for more guards to watch over her.
……
After some time, they arrived at the volcanic lair next to Dragonstone, where the temperature was perfect for dragons to sleep and incubate their eggs. Vormisor and Silverwing often appeared here.
"Is there anything else happening at Silverwing this morning?"
Baelor spoke in High Valyrian and asked the Dragon Guard captain who was leading the way.
"Please rest assured, we have fed enough sheep in advance, and Silverwing is in stable condition. You can contact him with peace of mind," the Dragon Guard captain replied respectfully, one hand on his chest and bowing slightly.
"What about Vomisol?" Beller, knowing he had to play the part, casually asked about Vomisol's situation.
"Vomisol's emotions are unstable. He was very irritable when feeding the dragons this morning and almost burned one of the dragon guards to death with his dragon flames."
"If Your Highness wishes to tame Vomisol, I do not recommend today," the Dragon Guard offered a very sincere suggestion.
A raging dragon is too dangerous and uncertain; they must not let the king's eldest son take such a risk.
"Oh, is that so..." Baylor nodded insincerely. "What about the Glutton? Has he found out anything about this wild dragon?"
Long Wei shook his head again. "I'm very sorry, Your Highness, but the Glutton is inherently elusive. Finding its location will require a great deal of patience."
Baylor nodded thoughtfully.
Patience is key...
What I lack right now is this so-called patience...
……
Outside Dragonstone Castle.
"Your Majesty." A woman dressed in black robes, secretly led by a maid, knelt before Alison.
Alison sat in the wooden chair, trying her best to control her expression and inner tension. "Get up, witch."
The woman in black robes stood up with a smile. "I'd prefer you to call me a wizard rather than a witch. It's a unique title we in Asia use for witches."
"Tell me, how confident are you about achieving the objective of this mission?" Allison clenched her fists tightly.
"If it's just two or three people, my chances of success will be eighty percent. Of course, the dragons are not included here."
Allison certainly understood this principle.
But what excuse can we use?
Viserys valued his eldest son, Baldr, so much so that he even had Rhaenyra and Damon personally ride dragons to protect him, all so that his son could tame a giant dragon.
"Your Majesty, I can sense your distress. If it's due to the number of people or the dragons, then we can use the same method to send them away," the wizard of Assassin said respectfully.
"What do you mean?" Allison looked up at her.
"Use men against men, and dragons against dragons."
