Game of Thrones: Dance of the Dragons
Chapter 3 Revisited by the Emperor
Renilla couldn't help but feel ashamed.
As her father's most beloved daughter, she received a noble education and learned about the city from a young age. In terms of intelligence gathering, she was far superior to her younger brother, Prince.
But she hadn't thought of any of these simplest things—how embarrassing…
"My dear brother, how did you manage to think of so many things while you stayed at the Seven Gods Cathedral every day to atone for your sins?" Renilla gently rubbed Beller's little face, speaking each word carefully.
"Apart from the time I spent atonement in the church, I had Maester Orville teach me about Westeros, as well as the ancient Valyrian language that you taught me."
"Now, I only need three more years to finish reading the other half of the classical history left behind by the old town." Even though he was being humiliated, Baylor's tone still revealed pride.
"Tch, I can't argue with you." Renella released her brother's face, pulled him into her arms, and said:
"By the way, the Imperial Hunt is in six days. Come back with me; Father will be very happy."
"If you're really happy, you should come and see me instead of always relying on you to relay messages," Baylor said, sounding somewhat resentful.
For six years, if it weren't for his sister Renella visiting him every two weeks, Beller would have thought he was a prince exiled to the wastelands, a pitiful creature abandoned by his family.
Renilla gently pressed her forehead against his and explained, "Father didn't mean it."
"There were too many things to do in King's Landing, and a letter came saying that you should focus on atoning for your sins with the Seven Gods, so Father did not come to Oldtown."
Baylor's expression changed. "Was this letter from the Church of the Seven Gods, or was it relayed by the Hightoar family?"
"Yes, I have them all. What's wrong?" Renilla asked, looking down.
"It's nothing, just two more names added to the notebook in my mind," Baylor said with a smile.
"Could your smile be any more fake?" Renilla couldn't help but complain.
"Really? I think my smile was genuine." Baylor leaned against Renilla's chest, slightly out of breath from exhaustion.
"Go to sleep, I'm here." Renilla smiled gently, patting her younger brother's back like a mother.
Beller quickly fell asleep. Only then could Renilla get a good look at her brother.
It's only been half a month, but Baylor has clearly lost weight, and his dark circles are even more pronounced. If this continues...
"Brother, we must get back to King's Landing as soon as possible, tonight, okay?" Rhaenyra gently shook Baelor.
Little did he know, he was being plagued by nightmares.
In the dream, black and green intertwined like lightning in the rain, tearing at each other like dragons, until they disintegrated and vanished completely...
Beller stood in the lightning, wiping the rain off his face again and again, trying to remember the already blurry image.
Soon, the rain that had soaked Baylor's clothes disappeared, and the sky inexplicably cleared up, replaced by a giant dragon soaring through the sky.
Its wings could easily cover half a castle, its body was like indestructible black steel, and its head had prominent spikes on both sides.
"It's this!" Baylor recognized the dragon, the culprit that had been giving him nightmares.
This time, however, it did not unleash its dragon flames at Baylor. Instead, it propelled its massive body toward the distant and prosperous capital—King's Landing.
What does this mean? Baylor slowly lowered his raised hand, staring in confusion in the direction the dragon had left.
Before he could think it through, he suddenly felt dizzy. When he woke up again, his sister Renilla was in front of him.
"You're awake. How did you sleep?" Renilla asked with a smile.
"With my sister here, of course I slept well," Baylor replied obediently.
"Come on, I could hear you talking in your sleep. What black and green stuff? I couldn't understand a word of it," Renilla said, gently patting his forehead.
Baylor shook his head. "I don't know either."
"My nightmares are always so strange that even Maester Orville and those guys from the Cult of the Seven Gods don't know them, let alone a little kid like me."
Strange as it may be, Baylor was still quite concerned about the dragon that often haunted his dreams.
He asked, "Sister, does our family have any dragons that can breathe green dragonfire, whose bodies are the color of black steel, and whose wings are as big as half a castle?"
"Hmm..." Renilla thought seriously. "We don't have one in our family, but we do have a wild dragon that doesn't belong to our family, and it's very similar to your description."
"What's your name?!"
Renilla spoke up: "The Glutton."
"Rumor has it that it is a second-generation dragon from the same era as Vormisor and Menghuo. It loves to eat the remains and corpses of dragons and occasionally goes to Dragonstone to steal dragon eggs."
"As for how big the gluttons are? I don't know, anyway, the people have all sorts of opinions."
"Oh... Glutton, so that's its name." Baylor nodded, silently noting another name into his mental notebook.
"What's wrong with it?" Renilla asked curiously.
Beller didn't hide anything from his sister and recounted his love-hate relationship with the Glutton over the years, as well as his dream just now, in detail.
"Sister, the Glutton has flown to King's Landing. The only two dragon knights in the family are out there. Could they be in danger?" Baylor asked worriedly.
The images in his dream told him that the repeated appearances of the black dragon were not simply a matter of bringing him nightmares.
"Don't worry, my dear brother."
"Our family has more than just Syracuse and Corakshyu. Dragons like Vormisor, Silverwing, and Dreamfire are all over seventy years old and are no less powerful than the Gluttons," Renilla comforted her.
He then stood up, took Baylor's hand, and said, "Let's go home."
Upon hearing the word "go home," Baylor's feelings were somewhat complicated; he couldn't say he disliked it, nor did he have much anticipation.
However, compared to being constantly monitored by Haitar in the old town and eating tasteless food, going back was clearly a better option.
"Okay, let's go home," Beller echoed Renilla.
Renilla led Beller away from the Seven Gods Cathedral. Her dragon Syracuse hovered in the air, and upon sensing its master's arrival, it immediately descended into the nearby open area.
Just as Rhaenyra was about to let her younger brother climb onto the dragon's back, Mond Hightoar, with dozens of archers and guards, blocked their way.
"Princess, the prince's body has not yet fully recovered, and the curse of the Seven Gods has not ended. You have committed a grave crime by taking the prince away without permission!" Mond Hightower questioned him righteously.
"The Royal Hunt is about to begin, and my brother wants to meet his father. Is that wrong?" Renilla frowned slightly.
She hadn't expected that Mondstadt would be able to gather dozens of archers in such a short time. It seemed that the Hightoar family's surveillance of her brother was more serious than she had anticipated.
"Princess, this is not a question of right or wrong. The prince has been punished by the seven gods and needs to stay in the church to atone for his sins. This is an order from the king!" Mond Hightower stood firm.
His brother Otto had written to him, and at his urging, the king seemed to be wavering on his choice of successor.
Therefore, no matter what, he had to keep Baylor trapped in the old town, not only to facilitate a covert solution in the name of the Seven Gods, but also as an invisible deterrent.
"You!" Renella was furious. She was about to command Syracuse in the Valyrian language when Beller spoke first.
"Sister, give me the right to speak," Baelor said, climbing onto the dragon's back in Valyrian.
"No need to be polite with him!" Renilla replied in Valyrian as well.
Baelor hummed in agreement, then turned to look at Mond Hightower. "Lord Mond, you told me you were very familiar with the laws of the kingdom."
"Tell me, what punishment should be given to those who lead troops to surround the king's eldest son?"
"Prince, we are discussing what you cannot..."
"Mond Hightower, your prince commands you to answer my question!"
Mond Hightower looked up at Prince Baylor, who, despite his slender frame and dark circles under his eyes, was already qualified to be a dragon knight, and instinctively held his breath for a moment.
"Prince, according to the laws of the kingdom, anyone who leads troops to besiege members of the royal family without authorization should have their head cut off!" Mond Hightoar replied in a trembling voice.
"Alright." Beller looked at Rhaenyra and spoke in the ancient Valyrian language, "Sister, order Syracuse to use dragonfire to kill the archers behind Mond Hightoar."
"Syracus, Dragonfire," Renilla commanded in the ancient Valyrian language.
Syracuse opened its dragon mouth, spraying yellow flames onto the soldiers of the Heitel family. The scene was filled with screams of agony, and some even jumped into the nearby puddles, but they could not extinguish the flames on their bodies.
Seeing the horrific scene before him, Mond Hightoar looked at Rhaenyra with a mixture of anger and fear, demanding, "Princess, what do you mean by this?!"
Baelor chimed in, "Lord of Mondstadt, are you questioning the kingdom's princess?!"
"Prince, I am only seeking justice for my soldiers."
Prince Beller scoffed, "Using troops to surround the prince and princess without authorization, is this what you call justice?"
"I have a piece of advice for you: get out of here right now, or it won't just be soldiers rolling around on the ground."
It was only then that Mond Hightower finally remembered the saying that had been circulating in the Seven Kingdoms for a long time: the Targaryen family did not need an army, because they possessed unparalleled dragons.
After weighing the pros and cons, Mond Hightower had no choice but to admit defeat, saying, "I understand, Your Highness."
Mond Hightoar rose and departed with his knights of oath.
Renella took this opportunity to return to the dragon's back. "Hold on tight, little brother!"
She then tightened the control rope, piloting Syracuse out of Oldtown and towards King's Landing, the capital of the Targaryen family.
