Game of Thrones: Dance of the Dragons
Chapter 30 Your Majesty, your blackbird has escaped.
Back to the castle.
Having experienced the highs and lows, Viserys quickly drank a few glasses of wine to calm himself down.
Tonight, the surprise that Baylor gave him was so great that even after Viserys returned to the castle, his heart was still pounding.
"A true dragon is not afraid of fire."
"A Song of Ice and Fire...The legendary prince..."
Viserys closed his eyes, leaned back in his chair, and savored the memories of everything he had seen before the dragon's lair.
If he hadn't seen it with his own eyes, he wouldn't have believed that his eldest son possessed the ability to be immune to fire, or that a red comet streaked across the sky.
All the magical and incredible phenomena were telling Viserys—Baelor Targaryen—that his eldest son was the prince prophesied in A Song of Ice and Fire!
"Harold, go and tell my king's guards yourself."
"Tell them all that wherever Prince Baelor goes, they must follow, protecting him every step of the way, without ever leaving his side!"
"But if you do that, you'll have fewer guards around you."
"Your Majesty, I think it would be better to have the Grand Secretary send ravens and have Prime Minister Leonor send a group of his personal guards from the Military Command to protect Prince Baylor."
As captain of the Kingsguard, Harold naturally dared not disobey the king's orders. Yet, he also had a duty to remind the king that he must prioritize his own life.
In the past, Viserys would have readily accepted his advice.
But this time, he has to go against everyone else and be a real king.
"Sir Harold, you now need to obey the King's orders, not question them!"
"Yes, Your Majesty!"
Seeing that Viserys' attitude had hardened, Harold dared not say another word. After ordering a Kingsguard to stand guard there, he turned to convey the king's orders.
……
Dragonstone Castle, the Queen's bedroom.
After putting her child to sleep, Allison returned to her room with trepidation. Even with the Royal Guards protecting her outside, she still felt like someone was watching her.
"No, I arranged it very discreetly, no one will find out."
As she spoke, she immediately knelt in front of the window of the room, sincerely put her hands together, and prayed in the direction of the old town.
"By the Seven Gods, all I have done is to ensure my child ascends the throne and upholds the honor of the Hightoar family!"
"Please protect me! Please protect me!"
After performing the most basic prayers, Allison summoned her most trusted maid and asked her to secretly bring in a raven under the guise of delivering a change of clothes.
Allison herself took out paper and pen and sent the information about the failed assassination to her father, Otto Hightower, in case of a sudden attack by Viserys the next day.
Her thinking was quite correct. Viserys summoned these ministers of the court partly to discuss countermeasures, and partly to test their reactions.
See if those he trusts most have actually betrayed him!
The maid quickly returned to the room from outside, handed the raven to Alison, tied up the letter, and then quietly released the raven out.
As luck would have it, Prince Bellor was practicing his bow and arrow outside and shot down the raven with perfect accuracy.
Baylor unwrapped the letter. Alison, unusually quick-witted, read the contents, which were simply meant to inform her father, Otto, that Viserys would be conducting a surprise inspection the next day. She didn't specify what the inspection was about.
Without sufficient evidence, even if Baylor told Viserys about it, it would at most arouse suspicion, but would not lead to a conviction.
Moreover, after this incident, Allison and Otto will be more vigilant, making it harder to harm them later.
After much deliberation, Baylor came up with a very interesting idea.
He put away his bow and arrows and went to the entrance of Alison's room in the castle.
The most skilled of the Kingsguard guarding this place is Cole, who is also the Prince's swordsmanship instructor.
Upon seeing the prince arrive, Cole hurriedly bowed and was about to greet him when he gestured for the prince to be quiet, indicating that the prince should move away.
Although Cole did not understand Baylor's thoughts, as a nobleman with excellent insight and the prince's swordsmanship teacher, he knew very well that choosing to refuse would be a foolish act.
So he obediently stepped aside, making way for the prince.
"Knock knock knock!"
"Your Majesty, I see the light in your room is still on. How about we have a chat?" With that, Prince Bellow cut off Allison's escape route.
"I'm already in bed, and the servants have already washed my clothes. If Your Highness has anything to say, please tell me tomorrow," Alison said, clenching her fists nervously but trying to sound calm.
"But I found a small black bird outside your window. Is it your pet?" Baylor was quite adept at using suggestive language.
It's almost as if I'm telling Alison directly, "I caught the raven you released."
"Since you've come to see me, it must be something very important to discuss. Please wait a minute while I put my clothes on."
Allison immediately got out of bed, put on her pajamas, opened the door, and gestured for Baylor to come in.
"I'm so sorry, Your Majesty, for disturbing your rest."
Baylor sat down in the chair next to the desk without any hesitation. Although he looked young and was young, his eyes and tone were extremely mature.
Before closing the door, Allison glanced at Cole outside to make sure he was a certain distance from the doorway before shutting the door and glaring menacingly at Baylor.
"What exactly do you want?!"
Baylor said coldly, "Shouldn't I be asking you that question?"
"The Hightoar family, in collusion with outsiders, attempted to murder the king's eldest son and the future crown prince."
"Tell me, if this were held in a court meeting, what crime would your family be charged with?!"
"How dare you, Prince! I am your stepmother, your father's wife!"
"Do you know what crime is committed by trying to frame a queen of a country without any evidence?!" Allison was completely unfazed.
She deliberately kept a watchful eye when she wrote the letter, only telling her father Otto to be careful of Viserys's sudden interrogation the next day.
Even if Baylor tells his father, Allison will at most receive a few verbal reprimands and will not be held guilty, let alone implicate her family or children!
"evidence?"
"You mean this?"
Baylor took out the papers he had prepared beforehand and deliberately waved them in front of Allison.
"Your Majesty, would you like me to read it aloud for you?"
Allison raised her head haughtily. "So what if you read it aloud?"
"I merely told my father to be wary of Viserys's sudden interrogation tomorrow. This is at most a leak of information; it won't sentence me to death!"
Baylor's lips curled slightly as he unfolded the paper and said unhurriedly, "Father, I have confirmed the death of the Shadowland witch, and I have destroyed the relevant evidence."
"Even if the plan to assassinate Prince Beller fails, our Hightar family will not be implicated."
Allison looked at Baylor in surprise, "This isn't what's on my paper!"
