Mr. Liang, you mustn't covet other people's fiancées!
Chapter 51 Jiang You, you're still too young.
Wen Li adjusted the collar of her pajamas and walked out of the bathroom. Her personal butler was setting the table at the dining table.
Upon seeing her emerge, the butler bowed slightly: "Miss Wen, please enjoy your meal."
Wen Li smiled and said, "Thank you."
As soon as he finished speaking, Liang Chaoxu came out of the bedroom, rubbing the back of his neck, his black bathrobe loosely open.
Wen Li's gaze swept over his chest, where the ambiguous red marks were clearly visible. Her ears suddenly burned, and she hurriedly looked away, walked to the table, sat down, and began to eat her breakfast.
Liang Chaoxu smiled slightly and gestured for the butler to leave.
After washing up, he sat down opposite her, poured himself a glass of warm water, and ate his breakfast in silence.
The two sat across the table, occasionally their chopsticks tapping softly against the rim of their bowls, but neither of them spoke of the previous night.
That tacit understanding carried a strange sense of ease; since what was meant to happen had already happened, there was no need to bring it up again or try to fill the gaps with conversation.
Halfway through the meal, Liang Chaoxu asked, "There's a temple fair at Ditan Park today, are you going?"
Wen Li looked up at him. His expression remained unchanged, his gaze fixed on her face, a faint smile in his eyes.
She nodded: "Okay."
After breakfast, she went back to her bedroom to change her clothes. She carefully chose a turtleneck sweater, put it on, and looked at herself in the mirror. The neckline just covered the marks.
Wen Li walked out of the bedroom. Liang Chaoxu was already wearing a coat and standing at the door waiting for her, holding a scarf in his hand, which he put around her neck: "It'll be cold when we go shopping later."
Wen Li stood obediently, waiting for him to finish tidying up.
The wind in January was still like a knife, stinging my face, but the sun was shining brightly, making the remaining snow on the roadside glitter.
The entrance to the temple fair was already crowded with people, and the aroma of roasted chestnuts and grilled skewers mingled together, rising into the sky with plumes of steam.
The two slowly moved in with the flow of people. Wen Li stopped in front of a stall selling rabbit figurines and picked one up to examine it carefully.
Liang Chaoxu stood beside her, holding his phone, ready to pay after she made her choice.
In the crowded area, a parent holding a child passed behind the two of them and, in order to protect the child, gently pushed Wen Li.
Liang Chaoxu reached out and put his arm around Wen Li's shoulder, pulling her closer to himself so that she wouldn't be pushed around.
Wen Li was watching intently and didn't notice anything amiss.
His phone vibrated. He picked it up, glanced at it, and then looked down at Wen Li, saying, "I'm going to take this call. You wait here for me."
Wen Li nodded: "Mm."
Liang Chaoxu walked to a relatively quiet area under the eaves, put his phone to his ear, and looked directly at Wen Li.
Wen Li spent a long time looking around but couldn't find the rabbit figurine she wanted. Looking at the flow of people, she was about to move aside to avoid the oncoming crowd when she turned around and saw Jiang You standing a few steps away.
He was wearing a dark gray overcoat, and his eyes showed signs of fatigue. The two stood a few steps apart, neither speaking first, as people walked past them.
Jiang Youxian walked towards Wen Li, stopped in front of her, and bent down slightly to look at her nose: "What did the doctor say?"
His sudden closeness made Wen Li instinctively take a half step back: "Soft tissue contusion, it will heal after a period of rest."
"I'm sorry," he said, straightening up, his voice gentle. "What happened before was due to my lack of consideration, which caused you to get hurt innocently."
Wen Li shook his head: "It's just a minor injury, senior, you don't need to worry about it."
Jiang You looked down at her, his tone unusually serious: "Wen Li, give me some time. I'll come back to you after I've sorted everything out."
Wen Li was slightly taken aback and did not respond immediately.
The wind passed between the two of them, causing the stray hairs on her forehead to sway gently.
Looking at the person in front of her, Wen Li felt something gently touched in her heart, though she couldn't quite put her finger on it, but it quickly subsided.
"Senior, you don't need to do this." She paused, then smiled, her eyes relaxed, but her tone remained distant.
"There was nothing between us that needed to be resolved. Stop focusing on me. I never intended for anything to develop between us."
"Don't jump to conclusions too quickly." Jiang You also curved his lips into a smile. "I won't act rashly this time. You just need to wait for me."
Looking at the stubbornness in his eyes, Wen Li felt nothing. She lowered her voice, "Senior, stop now, or you'll end up not even being friends anymore."
Jiang You didn't reply, his gaze passing over her head and landing behind her.
Wen Li turned her head following his gaze and saw Liang Chaoxu standing behind her with a sinister look in his eyes.
Liang Chaoxu glanced at Jiang You but remained silent.
Jiang You met his gaze without fear or backing down.
Wen Li glanced at the two of them, sighed, and turned to leave.
Her figure was swallowed up by the crowd, leaving two men standing two steps apart. The flow of people circled around her, occasionally bumping into her shoulder, but no one moved.
Jiang You spoke first: "President Liang, I don't intend to give in."
Liang Chaoxu looked at him, his eyes narrowing slightly: "What do you mean by 'yield'?"
Jiang You was taken aback.
Liang Chaoxu's voice turned cold and deep: "Wen Li doesn't like you, and I'm not a loser. What makes you think you're giving in?"
"Does she even like you?" Jiang You smiled. "You are quite capable, but your love has already been given to someone else. You are not good enough for her at all."
Liang Chaoxu did not respond, his gaze fixed on his face, unmoving.
Jiang You took a few steps closer to him: "As far as I know, your annulment of your engagement with Sister Yanxi wasn't because of Wen Li."
"Meng Shu was raised by her grandmother since she was a child. Like Wen Li, she did not have the background of a noble family."
"You did all this just to use Wen Li as a cover, so that Uncle Liang and the others would eventually agree to your relationship with Meng Shu."
Liang Chaoxu's hands, hanging by his sides, clenched quietly, and anger flashed in his eyes.
Jiang You continued, "You and Meng Shu were close friends of the opposite sex in college. When she was sick, you took her to the hospital; when she was unhappy, you accompanied her on a trip to cheer her up."
Liang Chaoxu looked at him without saying a word, his gaze carrying a subtle, almost imperceptible scrutiny, as if waiting for him to reveal all his cards.
"President Liang, does Wen Li know about these things?" Jiang You raised an eyebrow and was about to chase after Wen Li.
Liang Chaoxu blocked his way and scoffed, "Vice President Jiang really came prepared."
Jiang You stopped and turned to look at him, a slight smile on his lips: "Of course, some homework must be done before coming. President Liang has been meticulous in his actions over the years, so it's not easy to find out anything, but it's not impossible either."
Liang Chaoxu's face held a half-smile: "You think that after all the trouble you went through investigating me, coming to the temple fair to ambush her, and dredging up all those old stories, she'd think you're more sincere towards her than I am?"
Jiang You remained silent.
Liang Chaoxu looked at him, his smile slowly fading: "You've investigated so much, but what single thing proves I wronged her? What single thing did I do behind her back that I felt guilty about?"
"You keep digging up all sorts of perfectly normal interactions between friends, just to make her think I'm not worth it..."
He paused, his gaze calmly settling on Jiang You's face: "You're still too young."
